ACC’s so called ‘statement’ another slap in the face to NC State (10:10pm)

Why did they f***ing bother? In this statement the conference weasels its way into even more disdain from fans focusing on Karl Hess’ authority to remove Chris Corchiani and Tom Gugliotta, while completely ignoring his controversial judgement to do so.

—————————————-

Feb. 18, 2012

Statement from ACC Supervisor of Officials John Clougherty on the ejection that took place at today’s Florida State at NC State men’s basketball game:

“Under Rule 10, when circumstances warrant, an official has the authority to request home game management to eject fans when the behavior, in the officials’ judgement, is extreme or excessive. It’s unfortunate in this instance that ACC protocol of communicating directly with the home game management was not followed, and instead, a building security officer was solicited. We will re-communicate this policy with all officials to ensure proper protocol is followed.”

—————————————-

Sadly, one of the best explanations of the statement came from the twitter account of a UNC fan:

So, instead of “Hess was wrong to throw them out,” the ACC’s position is “Hess threw them out wrong”?

—————————————-

Another Tar heel homer also agreed when WRAL’s @ErinESummers used the following description of the statement:

ACC stands behind Hess and does not question/comment on his judgment to eject Corch, Gugs but instead comments on how it was done improperly

She also seems to agree with all of WolfpackNation’s characteristic of this farse –

that’s the official release and it is absolutely lame

—————————————-

So…after the ACC has had a chance to comment on the issue, the primary question still remains — EXACTLY WHY did Karl Hess have Corchiani and Gugliotta removed today? Corch & Googs have taken the stance to go on the record to publicly state that no curse words were used or threatening statements. This account of the situation seems to have been corroborated by multiple eye-witness accounts of people on press row and around the incident.

So, WHY is the ACC and Karl Hess not expected to be held accountable to explain the specifics of the situation that Hess CHOSE to initiate?

—————————————-

I will ask the same question that was being asked on the blog on Thursday night — why do NC State fans, leaders and administrators CONTINUE to participate in an affiliation that is so dis-respectful and slanted against us? Why do we keep fooling ourselves into believing that we are a part of anything less rigged than professional wrestling at this point?

Seriously, conference pride has deteriorated nationwide. Why should we try to keep any? Our leaders should contact Virginia Tech and offer themselves as a package to fill out a 16 team SEC. The sooner, the better in my opinion.

I would love to play the Gamecocks every year again. That’s a rivalry we can relish, instead of seethe about. We will win or lose by our own merit.

That’s all I want – a fair chance. Stand or fall. We will never, ever get that in the ACC.

  3. choppack1 02/18/2012 at 11:30 PM #

Rick you are right. That’s exactly what we’ll do. Look how woodson handled withers comments

Now I am left to hope that there is something going on to explain how and why the ACC can shit on us so blatantly. Maybe, just maybe, there is something going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about and we will soon be through with this BS. I am looking under every rock for a ray of hope here.

The RBC should ring out with “SEC!!” Chants Tuesday night. Leaving the ACC is 100 times more important than beating the Holes – even if it’s the last time we ever play those SOBs.

    BJD,

I just had an exchange with Dr. Yow. I won’t breech her confidence, but this was my response to her timely response to my original words of encouragement.

“..This is where Trustees can be very useful.  As someone in media, and with a vague understanding of how conference decorum works, i understand you have to exercise discretion with your words.   Know that tens of thousands of alumni are in your corner.”

  7. BJD95 02/18/2012 at 11:34 PM #

I care less about what she says than what she does – ie, talking to other conferences. Nothing else will satisfy other than leaving.

  8. ncsu1987 02/18/2012 at 11:37 PM #

Gentlemen, this is a watershed moment for NCSU moving forward. Yow and Woodson cannot allow this to stand. Hess pulled his pants down and shit on OUR home floor. Swofford just backed him up. There are multiple witnesses already coming forward that neither of our distinguished alums did anything to warrant ejection. I don’t know what the right thing is, but this cannot be allowed to stand. This is the moment: administrators, show me that you’re different. Show me that you’ve got a backbone and that you give a half shit about our school, its reputation, and its fans. Do NOT suffer this outrage unchallenged.

If our administration tucks its tail and meekly lets this die, I may be done with this shit.

  9. tjfoose1 02/18/2012 at 11:40 PM #

I wouldn’t go that far. I’d be satisfied with a Hess firing and a Swofford resignation.

  10. BJD95 02/18/2012 at 11:44 PM #

As unlikely as I am to get what I want, you face even longer odds. 🙂

I’ll be shocked if unc football gets more than a 1 year ban and I’ll be shocked if we actually do anything about this. (Just like I would have been shocked if we held on vs. Duke.)

  12. BJD95 02/18/2012 at 11:50 PM #

Here’s a random thought (and maybe I’m just too tired to think clearly)…maybe the ACC actually wants us to leave? Would they rather have UConn to complete their “greatest assholes in sports” collection?

  13. ncsu1987 02/18/2012 at 11:53 PM #

^interesting thought. Might explain a lot.

  14. vtpackfan 02/18/2012 at 11:53 PM #

ESPN-represents UNC and would love to get their neighbor school UCONN into the ACC without Swoff having to flinch first in going super conference. They know that bball is a hot button at NCSU and this is the message we’re getting so far. We wouldnt be bolting out of the ACC since we’re being told to shove off. I’m still smirking that our HC is the only one I’ve ever heard of getting t-ed up for taking his jacket off and throwing it down on a chair.

  15. choppack1 02/18/2012 at 11:53 PM #

Based on the events of the last 2 days I’d say they want us to leave.

  16. Dogbreath 02/18/2012 at 11:54 PM #

Yow is going to release a statement shortly. A measured, carefully worded release. Do not overreact and read too much into its deliberately neutered language. She is playing this very discreetly, and will use surrogates to unleash the assault.

Right now it’s important for everyone to circle the wagons. That means refrain from criticizing her.

  17. packpowerfan 02/18/2012 at 11:55 PM #

Oh wow…UNC, Duke, Syracuse, Maryland AND UConn in ONE CONFERENCE?! Who will the refs pull for then?!

  18. wolfie91 02/18/2012 at 11:56 PM #

why does anyone think we’d be treated fairly in the SEC?

  19. BJD95 02/18/2012 at 11:59 PM #

The SEC promotes the entire league, not just, say, Florida and Alabama. And the games are decided fair and square.

  20. BJD95 02/19/2012 at 12:01 AM #

I will hold my fire on whatever milquetoast statement Yow puts out until I get a better idea of what is actually transpiring behind the scenes. Best I can do.

  21. wolfie91 02/19/2012 at 12:04 AM #

Sorry, BJD, I am not sure that any conference out there is the utopia you’re describing.

Out of curiosity, what were the circumstances surrounding South Carolina’s departure from the ACC? Was it in any way similar to what’s happening now (ie, perceived lack of respect)? Or was it something else?

    ******************************************

South Carolina was tired of the shenanigans of unc. Specifically recruiting. unc was accepting idiots (nothing has changed I know) and lying about it. SC’s preponderance of ire was at unc football, however there was some splash on the hoops program as well.

  23. leewolf 02/19/2012 at 12:10 AM #

What about taking the ACC with us?

Does any other fan base, school, hell even administration, actually like Duke and UNC?

    Leave them.

Form a new league with the 10 ACC schools other than the blue bellies and call it a damn day.

Call it the Eastern Athletic Conference or Big Atlantic Conference or something like that, and be done with it.

Let UNC and Duke go play in traffic and land in the B1G where they can enjoy playing second fiddle to tOSU and Michigan.

  24. vtpackfan 02/19/2012 at 12:12 AM #

No ones criticizing the AD. There is just no confidence that any person in recent NCSU past with any power (save Mary Fox maybe) has the vision and charisma to lead us out of this cess pool. That is why it takes people like Tommy Burelson to stand behind Sendeks bench to tell him enough. It takes Corch and Googs to call out that this $h*t is bush league. It takes SNF to constantly point out absurdities. Our leaders just work on branding and do little in the way of risk taking and envisioning a path ahead.

  25. WilmyWolf 02/19/2012 at 12:15 AM #

I’m sure there are other schools/fanbases that are just as pissed with the ACC/conference expansion/tradition loss/etc. Lets form a new conference that doesn’t deal in all this bullsh*t.

It’s a total pipe dream, but would anyone have complaints about:

    NC State
    Wake Forest
    Virginia
    Virginia Tech
    Maryland
    Clemson
    South Carolina
    Georgia Tech
    West Virginia
