Report: Tenuta to stay

We have no idea if this is true or not, but this report out of Illinois says that Tenuta has changed his mind and will remain at NC State.

So grateful to Tenuta’s son. He saved our defense from taking a downward turn under Archer. And would be glad to give the Illini Archer since they missed out on Tenuta, maybe even throw in an offensive coordinator (Dana Bible), who continues to be conservative and predictable holding back our offensive potential under Glennon, except in the Clemson game, the 4th quarter of the Maryland game, and the first half of our bowl game with Louisville.

I’d be really surprised if promotion to DC or AHC was not part of the deal.

LOL at the very first post asking if Torain Graham had anything to do with this. What is most amazing is that it either went right over most people’s head or else we have a higher decision making expectation for a 17 year kid than a experienced (31 years) football coach.

Either way it is surprising to see that no one else commented on the fact that he actually accepted a job and then turned them down after all the uproar over Torain’s lack of maturity and decision making capability.

Also, I would be really surprised if promotion to DC or AHC was part of the deal.

ancsu87^ Ok, I’ll take the bait. I believe the Torian Graham comment was just supposed to be funny. So, LOL is probably where you should have stopped.

It also probably went right over your head that this was likely the plan all along for Tenuta. Its how the coaching business works these days. And who can blame them, with low job security, and frequently having to move their families all over the country. A coach has to use the leverage of another job opening occasionally to get locked into the position he actually wants. That’s not flip-flopping, or not being able to make a decision. That’s business.

I thought the Torian Graham comment was funny, just not funny enough to comment on. Because I don’t think this was a simple case of someone changing their mind. In Tenuta’s case, we counter-offered and he accepted. It happens all the time to us regular shmoes, too. Sometimes an employer has to think you’re walking out the door before they’re willing to pay you what you’re worth. So it’s not even close to being the same as Torian Graham’s situation (unless athletes really are being paid more than any of us realize, and he, too, got a counter-offer.)

Did he accept the job? It was reported as such, but that may be like “herb sendek removes his name from consideration for the job”.

We have no idea if he actually accepted or not.

When it’s all said and done, isn’t money usually where the buck stops?

Did y’all all have to go to college in the same town as your parents?

I think he verbally accepted the job, but had not signed the dotted line yet. Illinois made the official announcement, but did so without Tenuta’s signature. I can’t imagine them making an “official” announcement without at least a verbal agreement.

I have not seen or even heard where we counter-offered. No one will know this for sure unless we fire or demote Archer and promote him. Time will tell.

I would think that he did accept the offer based on the his quote and then information from various media sources:
“However, my family comes first and I may have made a decision without fully thinking through the situation with them.”

“Tenuta left Tuesday night to recruit for Illinois but called Beckman on Wednesday morning with the news that he had a change of heart and was returning to Raleigh, N.C.”

Besides that does anyone consider a $260,000/yr college linebacker coach to be underpaid compared to the average working schmoe?

It will be interesting to see how his title all pans out.
I was very surprised when I heard that he was going to Ill.
Seems like everybody else is trying to move TO N.C. because it is
such a great place to live. I thought why would he take that job unless it was major moulah. My guess is no one else in his family wanted to move again along with a minor ploy to up the salary ante.

Either way its great news and hopefully TOB will see the writing on the wall that new blood on a staff is not necessarily a vice.

Wonderful news about Tenuta, especially if the athletic department and Coach O’Brien were instrumental in convincing him to stay (but I don’t know that it wasn’t simply a family consideration). In any case, this is great news for the consistency and growth of our defense. Hopefully, he has been compensated appropriately for his loyalty and dedication, and he continues to have a larger hand in the running of the defense.
