Report: Tenuta to stay

We have no idea if this is true or not, but this report out of Illinois says that Tenuta has changed his mind and will remain at NC State.

…. Does Torain Graham have anything to do with all this ??

Wow. I wonder what kind of package it took to keep him. However, his son being at State had to help.

Or does this mean that the Wolfpack will have a new DC announced soon?

I am glad we can expect no dropoff in defensive play this year despite losing Manning and Cole. 🙂

That is great news if true. Hopefully the defense can continue to improve if he is staying and I really don’t see that happening with Archer alone running things.

This made my day. Now I just need to hear that he will be the new DC for the pack.

Let’s hope this is true. For Manning it’s too late tho if he already has an agent.

From his comments, it sounds like we can thank Elliot Avent for keeping him here.

Wait, does this mean our football program is more prestigious than that of Illinois?

    Great news!!!

Now if only the flipside of this good news is that Archer has tendered his resignation……..

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe TOB has decided to make some changes in his staff. You have to wonder what Archer is thinking now if he is not in the know.

    My guess is Co-DC

My guess – Archer will stay DC, Tenuta will get Assoc HC title. Word is Tenuta will be highest pain non-coordinator in ACC so I don’t think it will be Co-DC.

Additionally, it sounds like wife helped wanting to see son play baseball.

Good job by Yow/TOB on getting this done. We are going to need Tenuta next year to develop LBs with key losses to NFL for NC State. Tenuta will help get that young group up to speed.

There is something bigger at play here than just one coach staying… this may very well be further evidence that State is getting serious about athletics (at long last). Previous athletic administrations at State might have been content to let Tenuta walk and just hire the next “cheap guy” we could find so we could save a buck.

Instead, what I’ve read about this is that we made him a “lucrative offer”. When “put up or shut up” time arrived, we put up.

I can’t remember the words “lucrative” and “offer” being used in the same sentence with NC State coaching hires in a while. This is pleasing to the ears!

ruffles31 – This is a fantastic comment and echoes my thoughts as well.

Is Lee Fowler AD at Illinois? Seems like they just got ‘Caliparied’.

This is great. I wonder how much he will be paid now?

TBK, wasn’t our staff during Amato’s first 2-4 years regarded as one of the highest paid in CFB? I swear I remember hearing that, but can’t place a source.

For Amato’s first year he did not take a super high salary but got the administration to buy into him bringing in the highest paid staff in football. It was a big part of the news that year as Amato prepared for his first HC job. If I remember right it was the first staff that went over a million and salaries for assistants started to go up all over college football. So every well paid assistant anywhere owes some thanks to Amato. But Norm Chow was hired away the next year and Amato’s big fault started to show. He couldn’t keep good assistant coaches.

Insert huge sigh of relief here: (sigh) !

  23. Pack85EE 01/04/2012 at 5:15 PM #

Oh, now I see the link to the article on the million $ staff. I’m sure I read the exact article so many years ago. $165K for Norm Chow. Too bad we didn’t offer him 3 times that much the next year to stay. He is worth it. SO – Lessons Learned – Shell out what it will take to keep Tenuta.

  24. Hungwolf 01/04/2012 at 5:38 PM #

Les Robinson hired Amato and they put together the million dollar staff concept. Les stepped down as AD and eventually Amato’s staff eroded over time as asst. coaches came and went. One can only wonder if it was a lack understanding of what it took to keep good assistants by the idiot AD we had after Les that helped contribute to the downfall of Amato’s program. Good to see we and TOB have an AD that knows when to step up!

  25. BJD95 01/04/2012 at 9:14 PM #

No, it was Amato’s ego and how he micromanaged his assistants (other than Chow). Also kind of a taskmaster on top of that.
