Pack/Bees Game Thread

There’s a small chance I will semi-liveblog, if the new version of WordPress is more “blackberry friendly” re post editing. But more likely I will just see you in the comments.

Bottom line – this is the kind of game than even Sidney Lowe would win, so I definitely think the Pack will end tonight 2-0 in league play. But don’t be surprised if there’s a lull or two, an inevitable letdown after the emotionally charged opening win. But an ugly win is still a win.

GT will probably drop their next 7 games. I’d damn near bet money on it.

How this group of players, with experience and so much talent get popped like this by a team with, at least on paper, so much less?

I think gott needs to take the fine and question the integrity of these officials. He needs to rip this team a new one.

many nights like this and we are NIT bound. The room for error in this attempt to go dancing just got narrower. Still, hats off to the pack and coach Gott. Nothing but improvement. Just a temporary set back.

This has to be easily the worst game we’ve played this season.

tonight is the first game howell looks mad and wants the ball, especially after the crap tech called on him

  12. moose8865 01/11/2012 at 11:40 PM #

    these refs are clueless

  13. tuckerdorm1983 01/11/2012 at 11:40 PM #

he needs to take that anger to the next game. He needs to get the ball and go. Until we have a dominating inside game ain’t nobody gonna really respect us.

I 4 one will be glad when Howell is gone and we have better stronger big men who can dunk the ball

agree with that tuckerdorm, sometimes it looks like our inside players are timid inside

    I’m having Lowe-coached basketball flashbacks.

agreed choppack….would love to see Gott call the officiating/officials out publicly and let the world know it’s a new era and we’re not taking it anymore.

This is a bad loss any way you cut it. Blown out at home to a terrible GT team that will have a bad record.

I bet Maryland beats tech by 10 or more this weekend, i think maryland may be the 3rd or 4th best team in the league by the end ofbthe year

  20. stillapackfan 01/11/2012 at 11:44 PM #

    Stop blaming the refs.

  21. coach13 01/11/2012 at 11:44 PM #

If I were coaching I would have kicked the ball into the cheap seats and be watching from the lockerroom.

  22. coach13 01/11/2012 at 11:45 PM #

    Somebody f-ing punch a ref

In all seriousness, this is the same team you’ve seen all year. We didn’t shoot it as well as we normally do and GT shot the ball better than usual. But that’s partly because our perimeter defense is horrid. We don’t pressure the ball well, communicate, or fight through screens consistently. Yes, GT made some prayers but they had far, far, too many wide open shots, or shots they were able to step into off screens. Losing Leslie for such a huge stretch kills this team. Wood can’t get his own shot, and tonight, he got away from running off screens inside the 3 point line. Brown isn’t a consistent threat from 3 and doesn’t get into the lane enough to pressure defenses in the half court. Way too many finger rolls, nothing strong to the basket from him, and he’s one of our best athletes. Too many turnovers. Throw in poor free throw shooting tonight and we’ll see that result against mediocre competition more than once. It’s asking a lot for all the pieces to click night in and night out with this team. Officiating tonight was horrid. I’m guessing we got outrebounded in the second half as well.

  24. moose8865 01/11/2012 at 11:45 PM #

wood was fouling the crap out of that guy and the official would not even call it

  25. tuckerdorm1983 01/11/2012 at 11:45 PM #

look we are not this bad. We are much better than this. They were shooting lights out. OK. Still, we have weaknesses that other teams can exploit. I want to see Howell take it to the basket every time he gets it and they don’t double team him. While painful, this is a growing experience.
