NC State 76 Wake Forest 40

We don’t get to run many game entries with this score in ACC play!

The last time an ACC team was held to 40 points or less by NC State was before the shot clock era in 1982.

Link to recap

Lorenzo Brown scored 20 points and North Carolina State embarrassed Wake Forest on its home floor once again, routing the Demon Deacons 76-40 on Saturday for its most lopsided ACC road victory in more than half a century.

C.J. Williams added 15 points and Richard Howell had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Wolfpack (13-5, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). They never trailed in claiming their fourth straight win in the series and second straight by at least 30 points.

N.C. State—which entered allowing an ACC-worst 70 points per game—held Wake Forest to just over half that on 29 percent shooting (16 of 55) and gave up only two field goals during a stretch of roughly 14 minutes.

[snip]

…the only question was whether the Wolfpack would surpass the 112-72 rout at Clemson in December 1954 as the most lopsided ACC road victory in school history.

They threatened that record here for the second time in 11 months, after N.C. State routed the Demon Deacons 80-55 at the once-inhospitable Joel Coliseum last February for its most one-sided road win in ACC play since that 1954 season.

Wake Forest finished the game shooting 29.1 percent (16 of 55) and made just 2 of 20 three-pointers on the afternoon.

I share Backing the Pack’s perspective.

I’ll get to the stats whenever the official box score is released, but the numbers really are beside the point on days like today. Wake Forest looked disinterested and lost throughout Saturday afternoon’s game and probably would have lost to last year’s Wake team with this performance. I’m not sure the 36-point margin adequately describes just how bad they were today.

Personally, the most interesting thing to me of the entire day was how few minutes CJ Calvin Leslie (link to recent conversation) played after not even starting. Something is going on here and it will be interesting to watch any developments.

With Carolina currently losing by 14 points (17:33 remaining in the game) and the NFL Playoffs still ahead this afternoon we invite you to talk about anything you want on our message forums throughout the remainder of the day.

State outscored Wake in the second half alone.

Just got home, and thus missed the game. Well, I missed watching gametracker, anyway. Glad to see they took care of business. Maybe I should not be home for all games.

Also, just clicked on ESPN and thought I read the UNC/FSU score wrong. FSU currently up 26 with just under 14 mins to play. Wow.

Good win. I was glad to see us play hard and work through some of the offensive woes of the first half. I’m not going to feel bad about beating the slop out of Wake.

Now, to top it off, UNX is getting blasted in Tallahassee. Awesome sauce.

Traveling to a Bob Seger concert in Greenville, SC. Was able to listen to the WP network for most of the game. WOW. Switched to XM for the final minutes and listened to the WF network. They were unapologetic, simply stated that WF came out flat and we came out hot and WF never had any spirit or drive. Did comment that the flagrant foul was “not as bad as it looked”, but did not say that the boy didn’t pop Wood.

Watching the UNC blowout by FSU. Dickie V. is literally having an “out of body experience”. Don’t know if his old ticker can take this stress.

If Coach G. made a pact with the devil for today’s win and UNC’s embarrassment, I hope he got a deal for the entire season.

Have not followed the links? Did Coach G. say WHY he made a “Coach’s Decision” on Leslie. Painter certainly lived up to the vote of confidence.

GO PACK!. Can’t wait until the next game, but no game (re: GT) is a given. If you don’t believe that, ask Huckleberry.

Way to go Pack! Got to keep it up. Amazing what focus can do, that and Wake sleepwalking. But I’ll take it. And FSU is winning.

What’s going on with CJL. Was he throwing a tantrum because he didn’t start. He jogged up and down the court every possession and wouldn’t move at all on an offensive set. GREAT job for the rest of the team and staff and great job to the Criminoles for spanking the Holes. AWESOME DAY!!! GO PACK!!!

  7. Wufpacker 01/14/2012 at 4:23 PM #

OK, I came to the party late today, and I’m too mesmerized by the Heels’ spanking in Tallahassee to go and find out for myself, so….

    What happened with Calvin today?

  8. cb7483 01/14/2012 at 4:32 PM #

Dulkys is shootin the light out (11-13 from the field and 7-9 from Three Point Line)!

During the GT game, Calvin was making a face that was a dead ringer for Charles Shackleford. I certainly hoped it wasn’t prophetic.

Scrubs in for both teams with 2:00 left in Tallahassee.

  11. blpack 01/14/2012 at 4:43 PM #

The towel over T Zeller’s head is priceless.

  12. gtspack 01/14/2012 at 4:44 PM #

I’m hoping Calvin had a tender ankle or something. He put forth no effort at all today. Why was he jogging down the floor on the fastbreak with Wood? Holes getting CRUSHED!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. gtspack 01/14/2012 at 4:45 PM #

Roy’s throwing the towel in. YOU GOT TO LOVE THIS

  14. STLPack01 01/14/2012 at 4:47 PM #

How bizarre! Roy takes entire team except for walk-ons to the locker room with 14.2 seconds left!

  15. BJD95 01/14/2012 at 4:48 PM #

Roy should be fined for pulling his team off the floor like that. Low class move.

My God…Vitale finally had that stroke that’s been brewing. I can hear the director in the truck now…

Umm, Dick….we’re still live, Dick. No, you can get a picture with the kid after we wrap. Dick, please sit back down. (to cameraman: Geez…just follow him, I guess.)

  17. gtspack 01/14/2012 at 4:54 PM #

Wufpacker, I loved the picture. That was the final stamp on the spanking. I know that had to piss off the hole fans even more.

  18. BJD95 01/14/2012 at 4:58 PM #

    Here we go, NFL!!!!

My best friend is a Niners’ fan, so if they win I will be happy for her. But like every neutral fan…I really want to see Green Bay against the Saints next week.

Coach Gott said in postgame radio interview CALVIN was held out for ‘disciplinary’ reasons…and that nobody wants CALVIN to be successful more than he does….

and the way PAINTER stepped up who really cares.

Now if Painter can start making some of those 12-16 ft jumpers, we won’t need to worry about CALVIN so much.

    ************

    HELL YEAH…. NOLES !!!

It was a pretty nice day for Wolfpack fans.

  21. ancsu87 01/14/2012 at 5:08 PM #

I said after the GT game “I remember JV having these type of WTF games too. However when they did have a game like that the next several games were some of the best basketball to watch. I am curious to see how Gott’s team bounces back against WF on the road.”

This game was an impressive bounce-back!

    bill.onthebeach,

Thanks for the post. Could not get a WP affiliate in Greenville, SC (remember, this is the place that Jimmy V. flew to when Willis Casey told him that he had to make a speech for the WPC in “Greenville”).

Interesting, that is the SAME comment that the Previous Coach made about C. J. last year and I THINK that he actually had to sit out a game for not attending class. Hope that Coach G. has his attention.

Really glad that Painter stepped up. Thought that Coach G. was pulling a “Rice” and trying to improve our “bench scoring” average. Obviously NOT.

    GO PACK!

  23. BJD95 01/14/2012 at 5:18 PM #

Well, we need Calvin to have a 7-man rotation. So he’s not really dispensible.

  24. graywolf 01/14/2012 at 5:20 PM #

Good day. We win and Carolina gets blown out. BJD95 is right we need Calvin in our rotation. I hope that he gets his head on straight and gets out of the dog house soon.

  25. BJD95 01/14/2012 at 5:24 PM #

When you combine our margin of victory and the Holes’ margin of defeat, we’re 69 points in the black.

Indeed, a wonderful day to wear red.
