We don’t get to run many game entries with this score in ACC play!
The last time an ACC team was held to 40 points or less by NC State was before the shot clock era in 1982.
Lorenzo Brown scored 20 points and North Carolina State embarrassed Wake Forest on its home floor once again, routing the Demon Deacons 76-40 on Saturday for its most lopsided ACC road victory in more than half a century.
C.J. Williams added 15 points and Richard Howell had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Wolfpack (13-5, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). They never trailed in claiming their fourth straight win in the series and second straight by at least 30 points.
N.C. State—which entered allowing an ACC-worst 70 points per game—held Wake Forest to just over half that on 29 percent shooting (16 of 55) and gave up only two field goals during a stretch of roughly 14 minutes.
[snip]
…the only question was whether the Wolfpack would surpass the 112-72 rout at Clemson in December 1954 as the most lopsided ACC road victory in school history.
They threatened that record here for the second time in 11 months, after N.C. State routed the Demon Deacons 80-55 at the once-inhospitable Joel Coliseum last February for its most one-sided road win in ACC play since that 1954 season.
Wake Forest finished the game shooting 29.1 percent (16 of 55) and made just 2 of 20 three-pointers on the afternoon.
I share Backing the Pack’s perspective.
I’ll get to the stats whenever the official box score is released, but the numbers really are beside the point on days like today. Wake Forest looked disinterested and lost throughout Saturday afternoon’s game and probably would have lost to last year’s Wake team with this performance. I’m not sure the 36-point margin adequately describes just how bad they were today.
Personally, the most interesting thing to me of the entire day was how few minutes CJ Calvin Leslie (link to recent conversation) played after not even starting. Something is going on here and it will be interesting to watch any developments.
With Carolina currently losing by 14 points (17:33 remaining in the game) and the NFL Playoffs still ahead this afternoon we invite you to talk about anything you want on our message forums throughout the remainder of the day.
