Enjoy!!!  If I recall correctly, NC State was a 9 point underdog to Stanford as of late last week.  Another simulation site had NC State losing to Stanford 57% of the time.  Here’s to the upset!!!  GO PACK!!!!!!!

I don’t these announcers did any prep work for this game.

  2. Thinkpack17 12/04/2011 at 6:38 PM #

    Unreal.

Back to back games, back to back chokes. If someone gets on here and makes excuses why we lost your man card will be revoked.

  4. Wulfpack 12/04/2011 at 6:46 PM #

Total choke job from the Pack right there in the second half. A little bit of a bad pattern developing not being able to hold leads and close out games. And do we have anyone beside Wood that can make an outside shot consistently? Apparently not. Not really sure what that was out there in the second half. Looked like a pretty bad basketball team. Missed free throws. Can’t get the ball in bounds. Giving up easy baskets. Turnovers. Oh well. Same ole.

Not sure if there is anything that can be done about it … but the volume of the ads on this site is crazy. Just had some ad make a screaming noise as if someone was getting stabbed.

CJW shot a decent percentage. If we don’t have someone that wants to step up and be a leader we are sunk. Richard Howell has given himself a full blown case of the yips. He needs to see a shrink, get hypnotized…something.

  7. Wufpacker 12/04/2011 at 6:56 PM #

Howell (and others) needs to be parked at the FT line in practice for about the next month until it become automatic.

Looks like it is going to take longer than I thought to overcome the losing culture Lowe and company created over the last 5 years… Same missed free throws, loose defense, and missed opportunities but moving in the right direction. I hate these growing pains!

  9. MISTA WOLF 12/04/2011 at 7:06 PM #

I will say that we are moving in the right direction but the players are falling back in to their bad habits when we need them the most. It’s going to be ok in the long run I’m just an a-hole who wants to see results right now.

Scottie – I guess we can blame it on Lowe. But sadly, I feel like I’ve seen this movie before. Come out ready to play, then freeze up in last 7 minutes…does it sound familiar?

  11. caryden 12/04/2011 at 7:13 PM #

I missed the game. How many points did Russell Wilson score?

  12. MattN 12/04/2011 at 7:13 PM #

If we could hit free throws, we might be pretty good.

To many Lowe-era mistakes. Going to take a while to break us of all of those.

Where’s Javi when you need him?

rome was not built in a day. Every game I see improvements. CJL looked the best this game I have ever seen. He was unstoppable until he got hurt. Every game we get better. I put on us this year making it to the NIT and doing some damage. Maybe making it to New York. If we get into the dance, so be it. Coach Gott and company know what to do. It will take time to get the losers mentality out of those kids. If anybody can do it, then it is Gott. I expect painful losses. Let the season progress. The learning curve is quite steep.

  16. ncsuallday 12/04/2011 at 8:28 PM #

unfortunately, I think if we don’t win against Cuse and/or the ACC doesn’t step up collectively, we’re out. If we get the former and not the latter we’re probably on the bubble. On the bright side, there are improvements all around and we have a great class coming in but can we hold on to Leslie? That’s the question.

  17. wolfbuff 12/04/2011 at 8:38 PM #

Scotty needs to learn to control his temper. Second game in a row he lets things out of his control get in his head to where he makes a stupid move and fouls out. Not sure it affected the outcome of the Indy game but today it was a turning point. The announcers were absolutely right that this team needs to learn how to win. And they’re only going to do that by experiencing these ugly losses and learning from them. If they’re committed to learning and improving, these games will benefit them when ACC season comes around.

  18. WeAreCured 12/04/2011 at 8:54 PM #

    Oh well. Maybe next year…

I love Scott Wood, but the kid needs to learn how to play defense without fouling so much. He’s out of the game at crucial times too often. As for the rest of the team, we have two guys who could see significant time for a top-notch ACC program: Leslie and Lo Brown. And Brown gave away too many possessions tonight. Howell hasn’t impressed me much this year. His free throw shooting has hurt and he doesn’t finish enough to make up for it. Painter took a huge step forward, but he’s not exactly a dominant force in the paint. And our guards/wing men are nice role players, but CJW and Alex Johnson are not front-line guys on a real good team.

I like that everyone hustles this year, which is a gigantic step forward, but we should have won the last two. We blew a 12-point lead tonight. There’s no moral victory anywhere there. All it is is a lost opportunity and a long flight home.

Coach Gott was honest in his assessment of the team before the season started. There’s a lot of work to be done. I hope by the end of February we’re winning games like this. There was a very noticeable dropoff tonight when any of the five starters weren’t on the floor. We need more depth to be able to withstand foul trouble/injuries.

I said it after the Indiana game and I will say it again. I do not mind getting beat, but I cannot stand giving games away. We were in the driver’s seat at the 7 minute mark of both games and gave both games away. I hope the new recruits for next year increase our team’s bball IQ because it is pretty low right now. We committed too many unforced turnovers and we do not know how to finish off a quality opponent in crunch time. Also, Scott Wood needs to figure out a way to stay out of foul trouble, because he is our most reliable offensive weapon. I also think that a player with Wood’s shooting ability should take at least 15 shots a game and preferably 20. We either need to expand our game plan to set more picks for him or he needs to develop the work ethic of J. J. Reddick and Stephen Curry and be in constant motion running off of multiple picks until he finds an opening. He is a catch and shoot shooter, but he has to move to increase his scoring opportunities. He has done quite a bit of standing in one spot on the wing for 2 1/4 seasons.

While I would have loved to win one of these close games, and while it’s easy to get bummed by the way the games have been lost, I’m still extremely positive about the way things are going. Indiana and Stanford are both top 20 teams according to kenpom’s rating system, and Texas and Vanderbuilt are both top 45. We’ve played 4 really solid teams, probably all teams that will be dancing, and we’ve won 1 and been close in the other 3. We haven’t been blown out at all against a good schedule. That’s progress, even if it isn’t quite the results we want.

We lost to a really good Stanford team, at their place, missing one of our top 2 players for most of the second half, and a team that normally shoots 64% from the line had to shoot 85% to beat us.

There are plenty of flaws. We have only one shooter, and really only one competent ball-handler (Alex Johnson has absolutely no confidence right now). Even so, we’re managing to play with good teams.

If nothing else, the improvement of Leslie would make me happy with this season. He looks like a completely different player from last year.

The one positive note is that maybe they’ll work out their kinks, go through learning curve, etc. BEFORE the conference sked begins. Playing good teams early means a higher chance of losing early, but hopefully prepares the team better. Of course it’s just as possible that they lose all these games AND ACC games, but I still like that we’re getting a decent assessment of the team at this point of the season rather than entering ACC play hearing, “We don’t know what this team is capable of.”

  23. Ed89 12/05/2011 at 8:23 AM #

This team is EXTREMELY weak mentally. I hate to bash the players, but collectively, they ALL lost this game. Howell, Brown and Leslie cannot hit FTs at the end of the game. Your percentage should go UP at the end of a game, not the other way. Wood has got to stay out of foul trouble. His hands are too active, and his feet aren’t. CJW, Howell, and Brown seem to be in a different world sometimes. Just not in the game at hand, not knowing the situation. Our team BBall IQ has got to improve. Brown had 2-3 HUGE lackadaisical turnovers late in the game. CJW and Wood let players drive straight by them. Help defense from our bigs was woeful. No one on our team is “leading” and that includes Brown. I am surprised Leslie didn’t return. Why? Big non-conference game. I would have had to have been in a boot. They are scared to win, and they just didn’t want it as bad as Stanford. Same with the Indiana game. I just wonder about our competitive drive. Again, we really need to work on end of game situations. I didn’t really want to say we choked against Indiana, but this game is entirely on the players. Gott did well just to get us back to having a chance.

    Coach Gott – Practice Tip:

Miss a free throw, run a suicide; miss the next one, make it two; miss the next one – you get the idea…

    This has to stop.

  25. Wulfpack 12/05/2011 at 9:43 AM #

Nobody stepped up when we desperately needed it. I saw some long faces on the bench as Stanford was making the run (we still had a slight lead). It’s almost as if this team is resigned to losing. No fire. I can’t take that, and I know it is pissing Gott off. He can’t lose these guys, but I know he has GOTT to be frustrated. Some really bad basketball. A clinic in how to lose an important game.
