Bowl Developments – VPI to get BCS bid. Did BC loss cost State the Chik-Fil-A Bowl? (8:08pm)

8:05pm Update
If this website is correct and an 8-4 (5-3 in ACC) Virginia team that NC State handily beat in Charlottesville this year ends up in the Chick-fil-A Bowl….then it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that the turd laid by the Wolfpack’s against Boston College ended up costing 7-5 (4-4) NC State a shot at playing in Atlanta.

The Champs Bowl confirms Florida State vs Notre Dame. (Link)

Original Entry
According Sports Illustrated’s Stewart Mandel, the ACC may be getting an early Christmas present this year as Virginia Tech could be heading to the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. (Link)

Your BCS lineup will be: Title: LSU-Bama. Rose: Wis-Ore. Fiesta: Ok St-Stanford. Sugar: Va Tech-Michigan. Orange: Clemson-West Va.

As of 8pm — there seems to be enough independent verification to confirm VPI to the Sugar.

This development threw the ACC Bowl selection process into turmoil. Check out this link to see how the Wilmington Star News has taken down their previously published ACC Bowl projections and replaced it with this entry.

The surprise choice of Virginia Tech to the Sugar Bowl has affected several other ACC bowl selections and thrown a wrench into at least a couple of prearranged deal. Among those whose plans have changed are WakeForest and North Carolina.

Instead of heading to Shreveport, La., to play in the Independence Bowl, the Deacons now appear to be headed to Nashville to playMississippi State in the Music City Bowl. The Tar Heels, once seemingly locked into the Military Bowl in WashingtonD.C., will now move up to theIndependence, where they will likely playMissourion Dec. 26.

N.C.State will still play in Charlotte’s Belk Bowl , as expected, against Louisville on Dec.27.

The bowl selections will be officially announced at 8:30 p.m.on an ESPN selection show.

great +1 for ACC cred if they do get it.

  2. Clarksa 12/04/2011 at 8:33 PM #

So how much extra money will we get if VPI goes to the Sugar?

  3. ADS95 12/04/2011 at 8:35 PM #

I think it will be $4 million in total for the conference.

($5 million extra for second BCS team – $1 million from Military Bowl)

Did BC loss cost State the Chik-Fil-A Bowl?”
Goes to show you that every game does count.

Yeah, I think the BC loss did cost us the Chic-fil-a Bowl. The N&O has confirmed N.C.State vs Louisville in the Belk Bowl. No Surprise here! So if UNX is not going to the Military Bowl, do we get a team in that bowl or not???

BC, Wake and Maryland – all TOB’s nemesis while at State. Who woulda thunk it?

If VT goes to the Sugar, it’s great for the ACC, and of course great for Hokie fans. Really enjoyed the Hokie fans last night at the ACC Championship. Good people.

I’m pretty surprised the Peach would take UVA over us. Maybe there was a “handshake” agreement not to screw over CLT (since the Peach sells out anyway).

  8. isolatedpacker 12/04/2011 at 9:49 PM #

do you think it could be TOB saying he wanted to go to Belks (to avoid Independence and Military consideration–not expecting Sugar)and Peach wrote us off … UVA will not produce the same fan base …

Would have been cool to face Auburn. Oh well.

I don’t know. Seems to me uva is getting bid on performance vs. Fsu.

I can’t believe Va tech got a Friggin bcs bid

Sec. 514 Row 26 Seats 21-24. Let’s make this two bowl wins in a row boys!

Baylor is a much more watchable team, I figured they would get it. No idea why the Sugar would prefer the castrated turkeys.

    money

The isn’t the first time the BCS has rewarded a team that sits idle while screwing the teams that play an extra game that matters.

If Bama wins a 9-6 game it should be a split title.

  15. Wufpacker 12/04/2011 at 10:31 PM #

Somebody should warn Wake to take their earplugs to Nashville. Damn cowbells.

  16. graywolf 12/04/2011 at 11:06 PM #

^ Yeah, almost went deaf in Atlanta when we played them in the peach bowl.

  17. packman12 12/04/2011 at 11:25 PM #

Something else to chew on. If we beat BC and Wake we would have been playing for the ACC title Sat. night. Our conference record would have been 6-2, tied with Clemson. We would have gotten the title shot based on head to head win over over the Tigers. Curses!

  18. 61Packer 12/04/2011 at 11:41 PM #

If Alabama wins the BCS title game, then you’ll have a pair of 1-loss teams who beat each other. More controversy.

There were plenty of teams shafted in this selection, but none were hosed like Boise State. Why does an 11-1 team end up having to play a 6-6 team?

  19. JEOH2 12/05/2011 at 12:14 AM #

ya know…we’ve played a Big East team in all our last 4 bowl appearances…sneaking into the Chick-Fil-A or going to Music City would’ve given us something different…alas…lets go in the Charlotte and get the W…

  20. Wolfy__79 12/05/2011 at 12:33 AM #

dang, i would rather face an sec opponent in a bowl over the big yeast.. or what will be left of it. atleast we don’t have to play wvu two years in a row.

i guess a big win could lead to locking up some nc/sc recruits if they are watching? shouldn’t we handle this team?

  21. bigwolfpacker 12/05/2011 at 12:41 AM #

Not a bad deal for the Pack. I think we will travel to Charlotte much better than to ATL. Not sure the Pack would travel to ATL very well for this team, not the most exciting team to follow. Also, the first game next season is in the GA Dome and I think most fans ive spoken to have already committed to going to that game so two trips to ATL in a year may have been too much for most Pack fans. Just my observation.

Had a tarheel coworker that is gonna be pizzed off. He was excited about DC and getting to play nearby (day trip or at most one night)…now he gets to go to Shreveport! LOL! There is indeed a deity.

  23. ScottieJ2000 12/05/2011 at 3:18 AM #

It wouldn’t have mattered if we beat BC. If Chick-fil-a bowl wanted us then they would have used the 1 game rule. Attendance is high with any team for the Chick-fil-a bowl. I’m almost positive that us going to the belk bowl was long in motion before VT went to the Sugar bowl. It’s not about who we beat… it’s about money and even if we beat BC then the most money for both parties would still be VA at the chick-fil-a bowl and us at the belk bowl. Remember Maryland beat our butts last year and ended up in the military bowl… We shouldn’t have gone to the Champs Sport bowl last year and we could have gone to the Chick-fil-a bowl this year… Looks like a wash to me.

Let’s just be happy we are going bowling against a beatable team and fill up the stadium all the way!

  24. Wulfpack 12/05/2011 at 7:26 AM #

    “shouldn’t we handle this team?”

It should ba very good game. My hunch is we will be a slight favorite. L’ville fared much better against Cincy than we did, and they also beat WVU. Of course, they lost to UNC as well by a score. Going to be a good one.

  25. ge_traveler 12/05/2011 at 8:48 AM #

Louisville is as unpredictable as we are. We should “handle” them but hey, we should have handled BC too. It is going to depend on which team shows up for us; the one that played against BC or the one that played against Clemson.
