UGLY and miserable

This morning it was announced that next Saturday’s Clemson @ NC State game will be televised on ABC at 3:30pm.

One piece of good news that happened over the weekend came when the Wolfpack landed Hinesville (GA) Liberty County running back, Shadrach Thornton (6-1, 195 pounds). Thornton originally committed to Kentucky while also showing interest in Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt. At least this guy is a 3-star prospect with a legitimate list of decent BCS schools.

I’m encouraged by the fact that Clemson won the Atlantic Division despite being outplayed by Wake, so I suspect another potential meltdown by Clemson. On the other hand, the fact that we’re to game 11 and TOB says we need to grow up is not encouraging at all.

“I see a close win, or a blowout loss.”

Really going out on a limb there, mak4dpak!

The question will be if Dabo can get his team up after clinching the division. If he can, we’re toast.

    I’ve moved on to…tee-heee…basketball.

Don’t worry Debbie. We’ve suffered for decades. Our fans know endurance if nothing else. Don’t sweat it. No changes necessary.

I am very disappointed in Saturdays outcome but totally expected it with our road record against atlantic division foes. No surprise at all. On the bright side carolina fans had to see our loss as an even bigger embarrassment to them after having loss to us a week ago. TOB will get another year no matter what happens this year. We had another year of unbelievable injuries and we shut the holes up when it mattered most. I am a fan of TOB and want him to succeed but our inability to get over the hump is starting to over shadow our domination of the heels. How will we feel if we change coaches and win 8 games every year and go to a bowl but lose to UNC and never win the ACC? I say offer Bill Cowher 4 million a year plus 1.5 mil for staff and throw a beach house in as a bonus. It won’t happen but I can dream.

I’m not sure I want to be in a coaching search the same time UNX is. But I guess we could just lay all the cards out and see who wins.

This loss was as predictable as the tide. TOB on the road against any team with a pulse other than UNC? That’s a loss that we can just go ahead and circle.

The thing that REALLY irks me about this isn’t that we lost. That I predicted. What @(#)$*@# me is blaming it on the players. This staff has done so from second 1 after virtually every loss (and even some wins). Success comes from “coaching them up” according to TOB. I hate people that can’t take personal responsibility and TOB and his staff do not do it. SL was the same, and he needed to go as well.

All else that needs to be said has been said. It’s bowl or bust for TOB, IMHO.

Clemson is beatable. They have 1-2 regular season losses left in them. I’m afraid (for the ACC), that they’re going to get soundly beaten by S. Carolina. Wake almost got them. I wouldn’t be surprised if we did and I wouldn’t be surprised if they used superior talent to smoke us by 14+ points.

MD? We should beat them. I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see the team absolutely quit.

TOB blamed losses few weeks back on injuries, now it is lack of leadership and that the players need to grow up. Give me a break. Why can he not admit that he and his staff did not have the team ready to play in the first half and that our offense is pathetic. This is not a good year because of all the vacancies to be looking for a head coach but I believe if we end up with a losing season he is gone. We will probably beat Clemson then lose to Maryland.

Has anyone sent DY the stats about TOB never winning a road game for our division?

I sure hope she knows this info because that is awful! I mean who the heck can get by with that?

  10. Wufpacker 11/14/2011 at 12:18 PM #

TOB is correct about the team needing to grow up. Big time in fact. But he seems to forget that its his and his coaching staff’s job to guide them through that process. He’s only proving the point.

Let’s see…5 years, no road division wins. That, in statistical terms, is beyond a tendency or even a trend. We have to win 100% of our home division games to hit .500 and hope that’s enough to get us in the title game with tie-breakers and opponent W/L records.

I didn’t see the game Saturday. Does anyone know if we tried to throw deep to our speed guys?

  13. Prowling Woofie 11/14/2011 at 3:42 PM #

HP- Glennon wasn’t given the time to throw deep – O-Line made no attempt to protect him. He was getting sacked by a three-man rush.

  14. Ashman87 11/14/2011 at 3:44 PM #

Is it safe to say that TOB is MOC except for his UNC wins?

  15. Wolfacct 11/14/2011 at 4:11 PM #

This team has shown no heart or emotion since before the first game. There are no leaders on this team. Bryan has been AWOL all season, and Sweeney’s injury has limited his effectiveness. No one else has stepped up to be a leader. I think that’s what TOB is referring to when he says they are immature and need to grow up. I agree we need some coaching changes, particularly on offense. The game has passed Bible by, although I doubt we have enough offensive skill players to be very effective. The offensive line blocks “about once per month” and the wide outs can neither block or catch. I have no problem with TOB calling the players out – it is what it is, take responsibility. I’m sure these players have been taught the correct way to block, to tackle, etc. but continue to fail to execute. I think TOB comes back, we hire an offensive and defensive coordinator (one of which will be coach in waiting), and we demand the players take responsibility, although that concept is contrary to the current under-30 generations’ philosophy.

Now if Bill Cowher should suddenly be available, “promote” TOB to Assoc. AD and clean-house.

  16. TLeo 11/14/2011 at 5:19 PM #

There is lots of justified criticism of the coaches but it comes down to the players making the plays and executing. The o-line could not even stop a 3 man rush from getting to Glennon nor block anybody for the pitiful running game. The players shouldn’t need the coaches to get them “up” for these last three games. They know bowl eligibility was on the line and should be able to motivate themselves so a lot of the respoonsibility does fall on the players as well as coaches.

Can’t believe some think we will beat Clempson!!! We don’t have a prayer!!! Is there any way we can forfeit the last two games and look forward to next year with a new coaching staff??? This year has been the ugliest I’ve seen since O’Cain!!!

  18. mak4dpak 11/14/2011 at 8:25 PM #

I am sure many who give us no chance against Clemson, are many of the same ones who gave us no chance against UNX. So don’t be surprised if we win, we are capable, it just depends on the team that shows up. I trust TOB will have them up for this one, especially since I am sure he is feeling the heat.

  19. Wolfgarden 11/17/2011 at 2:45 PM #

I agree with Kahn and some others…we beat Clemson and lose to Maryland..I also had the BC game correct. Yet if we do not beat Clemson we will still lose to Maryland…TOB should be coaching at a place like Kent State, Austin Peay or William and Mary…not in the ACC, not with the coaching staff we have. I too can sit at the games as I have for some 25 years and call every play, well most plays, before they are even run by the little book man Bible…really.

I could put together a sandlot football team concentrate on defense and beat the Pack whom I love. Clemson will be concentrating on offense…bad move, me-thinks.
