Pack Adds TJ Warren!

Quick blog entry

Mark Gottfried and his coaching staff have worked tirelessly this off-season to bring as much talent to Raleigh as possible, and the results are remarkable. State is one of only two programs that have signed more than one top 25 recruit. (Arizona has signed three.) The addition of TJ Warren bolsters an impressive recruiting class, with highly touted guards Rodney Purvis (top 25) and Tyler Lewis (top 50) having already committed.

According to Scout.com, the 6’7 forward is a “big-time scorer” and “can really shoot it from deep.” Warren chose NC State over Georgetown, UNC and Florida.

NC State has let a ton of talent get out of the state in recent years, but the current coaching staff is making North Carolina a priority. So far, it is paying off in a big way, as Purvis, Lewis and Warren are all from this state.

Despite not having coached a game at NC State- and having been out of coaching for two years- Coach Gottfried has assembled a top 5 recruiting class for 2012. If a couple more dominoes fall, State could have one of the top two classes in the nation.

During State’s coaching search, most college basketball experts claimed the State job is one of the toughest, and none of them seemed to be able to grasp the concept that State has almost always recruited well. While State isn’t known for top 5 classes, top 20 classes are the norm. Coach Gottfried and staff should be commended for their efforts on the recruiting trail, where so far they have exceeded expectations.

..more to come…

Great news? Feeling old Roy? We’ve got the much younger coach (this time with the coaching ability to back it up).

    GAWolf Says:
November 2nd, 2011 at 8:14 pm Next up: fans have unrealistic expectations.

you’re like ants at a picnic… you could (or would at least try) to turn a wet dream into a nightmare!

seriously, can you go ONE day withOUT a negative comment???

One more great step for sure and if the on court matches the recruiting I’m sold.

Optimistic but waiting for the on court verification. Some may consider my view a wet blanket however I see it as realistic. I am expecting good things on court but of course I haven’t seen those yet.

I like very much where this is heading.

If Coach Gottfried and his staff can coach as well as they recruit, we’re going to see some basketball accomplishments that we haven’t seen since the Valvano years.

“seriously, can you go ONE day withOUT a negative comment???”

    How is that negative?
Forget the fact it is true.

I took the “fans have unrealistic expectations” to be a shot at everyone who says NC State shouldn’t expect to win because we’re not as good as Duke and Carolina. That’s not a wet blanket comment at all, if that’s where GAWolf was going. We should expect to compete and win, and a recruiting class like this goes a long way toward accomplishing that.

So this REALLY begs the question, why can’t we have this same recruiting success in football?

MG & staff doing awesome. IF he has equal success on the court, DY needs to come off the purse early, don’t wait til somebody else is wooing him. We find that person we’ve been looking for, let’s hold on for the long haul.

The next hurdle will be getting top 25 stars to play as a team instead of as individuals. I think that has been State’s biggest hurdle in the past 5 years. Sid’s NBA background didn’t help, but I’m hopeful this new staff has the mettle to make it happen…

well i actually just looked at the recruits only from NC we have the number 1,2, and 5 players frm NC in our class. UNX doesn’t have a single player frm the ole north state in their class. I will repeat UNX DOESN’T have a SINGLE player frm NC! i think that the wall around NC thing frm Coach Gott has successfully been built, but then again we are a school of fricken Engineers and architects, lol. #WINNING!! as a matter of fact here’s the link to the ESPN page http://espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/playerrankings/_/state/north%20carolina/class/2012/view/state

Welcome TJ. I like what I’m hearing from the new kids – sounds like they want to help build something, as opposed to becoming assimilated into the collectives known as UNX and Dook.
