Amile Jefferson visits this weekend

After cancelling last week’s visit to Stanford, Amile Jefferson is set to visit NC State this weekend.

At 6’7 and 185 pounds, Jefferson is one of the five highest ranked power forwards and one of the Top 20 ranked basketball players in the class of 2012. Although slightly (currently) undersized for a power forward, Jefferson has an unusually long wing span (think John Henson) to go with a competitive reputation of tenacity. He is has versatile athletic traits like speed and good hands to go with his offensive mindset and good form and touch his shot.

If the State were to land a commitment from Jefferson in the near future, it would be very hard to keep the Wolfpack’s class from being ranked the #1 recruiting class in the country. Additionally, if Coach Gottfried ultimately were to land both Jefferson and a pure center then the class would form a true ‘Fab Five’ with a player at every position on the court.

The following is a tweet from last night from NC State commitment, Rodney Purvis

We need to stop with this 5 scholarships thing. We only have 4 to offer unless for some reason we become like UCONN and decide to ask players to give up their scholly’s which isn’t a smart thing to start doing.

That being said, if Amile commits then this will be right there with Arizona for the #1 class. It all depends on what recruiting outlet you are looking at. ESPN won’t move Arizona out of that top spot anytime soon since they rank 3 of their commits in the top 15 and Purvis (our highest rated recruit) at #16.

Either way this is shaping up to be an impressive haul for Gott and company. Here’s to hoping we can cap it off with a Jefferson commitment.

    “Fab Pack 2012”, I’m printing the t-shirts!

    Thoughts:

I wasnt expecting anything after Purvis. However, if we land 1 or 2 more big time recruits, how big of a middle finger would Gottfried be sticking it to all the pundits who use that horrible excuse of our proximity to Duke and UNC as an excuse that we cant compete.

This class would be huge! Together with last years class the recruiting argument is almost completely invalidated!

Get em Gott!…….that should be on a T-Shirt. “Get em Gott!”

    WHILE IM AT IT,

I imagine the conversations Yow and Gottfried had or are having.

Yow: “Mark, all those bastards out there can talk about is how we cant compete with Duke and UNC. You get your ass out there and you recruit till your feet fall off.”

Gott: “I still cant believe Gary Williams called those coaches and scared them off. What an asshole!”

Yow: “That reminds me, under no circumstances should you lose to Maryland. Even if you have to leg sweep half their team, I want you to win! No mercy!”

Gott: “Debbie, please let go of my jacket.”

Yow: “Sorry Mark, I dont know whats gotten into me.”

Gott: “I do, you’re hungry. Its time we eat!”

We Gott plenty of CJ’s time for an AJ.

And no more Fab 5 refrences, we all remember how that story ended. Bad in more ways than one.

I know beating UNC-CHeat is the number one thing to focus on for this weekend, but this visit is HUGE!

I think ANYONE going to the game, should make sure to remind the folks sitting next to them about this visit and the need for the crowd to STAY POSITIVE regardless of the score of the football game.

The last thing we need is a bunch of boo birds if things get ugly. Losing a football game isn’t worth embarrassing ourselves in front of a top recruit. We have a chance to make this a HUGE recruiting haul, let’s not **** it up.

Let me the first to admit to wishing for that world class ‘fab five’ recruiting class that would go undefeated four years straight while maintaining high academic standards and not robbing anyone.

HOWEVER, in today’s college game you can’t keep the kids on the farm anymore. The more success they have, the more likely they are to start dreaming of sitting on an NBA bench earning big bucks and getting tattoos.

What you need is awesome guards and a third strong player, a good supporting cast, and solid coaching. That seems to be the formula for NCAAT success. And with our 2012 class, we’re right on track to have that with the question of coaching still unanswered.

Come run with the Pack, Amile. STATE is THE place for you.

You, Rod, Ty, and TJ could freaking dominate the ACC. Where else you going to find a better fit than here????

I don’t want a 5-recruit class for 2012. I don’t want ushering out upperclassmen to be the expectation after year 1. 4 hungry studs is plenty good enough and we’re looking good with big-time in-state Center talent for 2013. We’re also stacked with upperclassman bigs. That’s to mention nothing of Gottfried’s offense not NEEDING a true center, just 2 bigs with hands.

6’7″/185?…tell him we Gott Fried food here. yum yum.

I don’t know what his weight is, but I read somewhere that he measured taller (like 6’9″) at a recent tourney or camp or something, so I guess those are older measurements.

Don’t want to rock the boat, but rumor has it that he’s dialed in at 6’9″ 200lbs

Saw Amile Jefferson at the Red and Whote game sitting courtside next to Purvis… Up walked DY and sat right between them for quite some time… I wish I could have been a fly on the wall for that one!

I only stayed for the first session, but the crowd did get a brief “Amile Jefferson” chant going to which he acknowledged with a smile and laugh. The band ruined the second one…

Is it to early to get excited about this?!?!?
