Swofford in Indianapolis?

Just ran into UNC group. Understandably, no one’s talking tonight. Swofford is here as well.

I wonder why he would be there.  Certainly he must also have been on hand personally to help out Georgia Tech when they had their hearing and plans to be there for Miami when they have business in and around the NCAA headquarters.

    Shocking, blatant, homerism.

Their should be 13 schools up in arms about this… especially Clemson.

    You really find it shocking?

Second time I’ve heard something like this. Can someone give me some background on Clemson’s beef with Swafford?

Crooks. Crooks! CROOKS! We can’t yell it loud enough. Why the other ACC members aren’t noticeably upset over the Old Tarheels Club Conference Management handling things differently now that the Tarheels are in trouble, I’ll never know.

Maybe he’s there to interview for the upcoming Indianapolis Colts’ HC vacancy.

    You can run…

    ncsukyle,

    Go hear for background: http://dev.chuckoliver.net/2011/08/what-comes-around-goes-around-for-swofford-unc-clemson/

tldr; version – back in the ’80s when Clemson got in trouble and was punished by the NCAA, Swofford took it upon himself (as then UNC-CH AD) to call a closed door meeting over all the ACC ADs (except Clemsons) and was able to get the ACC to add an EXTRA year of penalties onto those the NCAA handed down. Needless to say, if I were a Clemson fan from back in the day I might be in a really really bad mood right about now.

How about that Viginia win? That’s awesome! That’ll help the team feel more confident going into FSU. GO PACK!

We can only hope the NCAA sees this absurdity for what it is….part of the problem.

Playing Devil’s advocate, I can’t blame Swofford and I would do the same if I were him. Like it or not UNC is a flagship program in the ACC and what’s good for UNC is good for him as commish.

The UNC hearing is not the only thing on the docket in Indy this week. Swoff has served and serves on NCAA committees as well. I am sure he is not the only conference commissioner there this week. I’m not that wild about him either, but I don’t think it’s that big of deal to see him there.

  15. GAWolf 10/28/2011 at 8:05 AM #

So Armystrong should ask him why he’s there. That should settle it.

Perhaps the best thing about joining the SEC would be for Wolfpackers everywhere could gather and in unison tell Johnny Swofford to kiss our collective ass.

Damn it, I won’t give up the dream, LMAO.

SEC and Bill Cowher as head coach. Now that’s the ticket.

    – Committee on Infractions members and supporting staff

    – Institutional representatives

    – Other individuals no longer affiliated with the involved institution

I still smell a rat. The compliance guy from the ACC should be there like he was for GT and FSU. Too easy for Swoff to try to wield undue influence.

  20. primacyone 10/28/2011 at 10:05 AM #

“Swofford said that there is always an ACC presence at infractions hearings involving member schools, but it is not always him. Swofford said he is attending Friday’s hearing at the request of Thorp.”

There’s no hay to be made with this non-story. Spank this baby and put it to bed. Despite our disgust with L’il Johnny, I would want him or a league offical representing him at our NCAA hearing. Let’s just hope we don’t have any hearings in our future.

  22. TruthBKnown Returns 10/28/2011 at 11:45 AM #

There’s no doubt some pro-UNX bias with him being there, but he can easily disguise that due to the fact that the conference is normally represented at these types of meetings (sometimes it’s the commish, sometimes it is not). Plus, Thorp invited him to come.

It’s yet another “plausible deniability” thing for the Holes. Can’t prove it, can’t disprove it. Guess we have to all move along. Again.

  23. ncsu1987 10/28/2011 at 1:18 PM #

^wolfbuff: I hear you. It’s also possible that there are other events happening at NCAA HQ today, and Johnny’s appearance there may not actually have anything to do with the UNX hearing.

But, digesting the posts above: there’s always a rep, but it’s not always Johnny. He’s there at the request of HT. Ok, fine. Did the AD’s from Ga Tech and/or FSU request him to be there? If so, why did he send the lackey? Why make a special appearance for UNX?

  24. wolfbuff 10/28/2011 at 2:51 PM #

ncsu1987, good points/questions. It would be interesting to know who from the league went with GaTech and FSU and whether they requested and were turned down by Johnny. I don’t expect the media to ask those questions. And even if they did, GaTech and FSU wouldn’t throw Johnny under the bus. So, now point in fretting about it.

Either way, it’s interesting that Holden III went running to Daddy to hold his hand at the NCAA potty. He should take who he can get from the ACC, sack up, go in there, take his lumps, and then come home and kick some asses in line. That’s how I run my organization.

so is there a fire John Swofford site yet?

I would like to set one up with petations on in, where alumni can sign their name for him to be banished. or boiled in oil, your choice.

We cannont be the only school that feels this way.
