Pack/Bees Open Game Thread

In order to put a positive face on things, I will attempt to list some positive things about this football season:

– Based on our September play, beating the spread will be a much more realistic goal going forward.

– Boston College sucks as bad as we do, if not worse.

– Butch Davis still sheds a tear every time he sees a paleface litter.

– Unlike (every) basketball season, there’s no chance that Duke or the Holes can win the national championship and rub salt in the wound.

– Steven Hauschka, best offensive weapon for the Seattle Seahawks. Dental school will have to wait.

– Friday, bitches.

– My fantasy team is 3-0!! OK, that one probably only works for me. Hey, I’m trying my best, damn it.

– The NCAA just cleared the path for one SEC refugee to join our two deep. If we only can get 10 or 15 more of those, we’ll be set.

– The first appearance of fall weather might have you outside and forgetting that we play today.

– Russell Wilson is finally getting some national media attention and Heisman love.

– Friday, bitches (schadenfreude so nice, I listed it twice).

I will see you later in the comments. Too apathetic and sleepy to liveblog.

Archer may be a complete charlatan who went 17-30 at Kentucky and contributed disproportionately to the current state of Wolfpack football, but damn it, he’s got one of the best mustaches in the business.

This may not be popular, but I am not ready to dump TO. Season is not over. With that said, would prefer to dump Mr. Bible and Mr. Archer. Follow that up with Mike Leach to OC with promise to allow him to be head coach upon TO retirement. If Mike Leach was willing to go to Maryland, he would certainly talk to DY about an opportunity in Raleigh.

I perfer that DY develop a plan, rather than experience another public execution by the media.

  3. mak4dpak 10/02/2011 at 6:57 PM #

In a email to me DY stated the assistants on TOBs staff were hired by him, and only he can change that. Not her. Although I did say at least put a bug in his ear.

“In football that may be true, but in basketball, I completely disagree. Were Butler and VCU in that 10 to 15 at the start of last year?

Butler was sure close if not there after playing Duke the year before. In reality there will be a group whether that is 10-15 or 20 that you can count on year after year. Oh yes! there will be years when a team pops up out of nowhere.

One way to not think of ourselves as over achievers is and it doesn’t matter if we are talking FB or BB and that is RECRUIT which our BB coach gets. In order for that to happen you GOTT to have the right coach.

BULLETIN!!! IT IS TOB JOB TO GET RID OF THEM BUT HE WILL NOT DO IT!

Tuffy2, you are CORRECT! My purpose here has been to disclose how there was an attempt by ‘someone’ to fool the Wolfpack fans. The truth about Archer was hidden and due to the FACTS disappearing from his wiki profile, it is obvious that someone complained to have them removed. It was EXTREMELY INFORMATIVE a few years ago, now it is very vague and doesn’t show the truth about the poor performance of his defenses. Just as the link I shared, there was an obvious attempt to deceive the Wolfpack fans and paint a very pretty picture of Archer’s abilities. If you take TOB’s word about Archer, you have done yourself injustice as he was never a good DC. This should make everyone question the motive of this hire.

So where was that leadership and “up coaching” on the 3 times we jumped offsides on 4th down in critical situations, I nearly Hulk smashed my TV. And someone please explain to me how we have a national leader in all purpose yardage that gets absolutely no offensive touches for the entire game. We have got to find ways to get the ball into TJ’s hands . After watching RW last night I just shook my head wondering why we always find a way to screw up a good thing…..people can argue all they want about the QB decision, but in my opinion I would’ve given up 10 more years of mediocrity for one more season with a leader like Russell Wilson. Hope he wins the Heisman on the same day TOB gets his walking papers…..but just me talkin’ – a bitter, disappointed ,unsatisfied alumnus.

Hey Bellyfullofsoul. The puppies on the D-line weren’t advised to sit still, because PJ, being a clever coach, didn’t call TO before he took the gamble. This was doubly ingenious as he is notorious for going for it on fourth down half the time anyway and our staff probably mentioned this during the week. That’s called using your own tendencies to create winning situations when you break tendency, which is the point of having tendencies anyway. Our staff wants tendencies for some other reason, I suppose.

As for TJ, it was by GT’s defensive design to take away the only real big play threat, and he did get a touch, right off his facemask while he was being blatantly interfered with on the Pack’s first play. He still should have caught the ball. The rest of the game, GT was willing to give up yards on the ground in exchange for forcing a turnover prone QB and suspect running game to drive the field. It worked masterfully in the first and fourth, and the Pack was scrappy in the 2nd and 3rd. This was slightly encouraging, only to have the good feeling of being almost competitive squelched with 21 points in about 30 seconds.

And your point about Bible not being able (or willing) to create opportunities for him is well noted.

Overall, it could have been worse. If you’d have told me Friday (Hell 5 seconds into the 2nd Q) it would be 45-35, I’d actually have jumped at it, I feared worse. But when it is 21-14 in the 4th Q, it sucks and I hate it.

The offsides were absolutely frustrating, but I felt there were two mistakes by Glennon that hurt us just as bad. 1st was the sack he took when he missed a blitz off the edge, he clutched the ball instead of dumping to the wide open RB (Washington I think) and we lost the momentum of the goal line stand. The other was obvious and took the air out of the stadium and the team. Nitpicking I know, Glennon wasn’t terrible yesterday, but his mistakes were ill timed. Call it the Romo syndrome.

Mike Leach: “I want to go to a place that’s undervalued, where the potential is great, a place that wants to win, not just participate, in football. When I was at Tech, no public school was ahead of us in graduation rates. We got our guys to compete in the classroom, and if they’re competing in class and in football, that’s an attitude they take into life.” Sounds about right.

I am not defending Archer now but where did you get the information he was demoted at Kentucky in 2006. I haven’t been able to find it anywhere. What I have found is his defense in 2006 gave up a lot of yards but was one of the top teams in turnover margin. TOB didn’t just hire on a gut feeling, he was highly recommend by our own beloved Bill Cowherd, where he was linebacker coach.

I don’t see TOB not as our HC next year unless he goes ahead and retire. He probably will have to make some staff changes.

This is the same staff that was successful at BC except the DC who stayed because od family reasons. He was overlooked for the head coaching job after TOB but remain as DC. He was named HC after the previous HC started applying for pro head coaching jobs.

    Can you provide a link?

Russell Wilson needs to knock some of the rust off from playing baseball all summer. He is starting to look like he did last year at ECU.

camel77, it was posted on Mike Archer’s wiki profile for years and it was removed. It stated that the Head Coach took over the defensive play calling near the middle of the season. I will search for the links I am certain they are in the archives somewhere, trust me on this one, it is the truth. We were sold a different story. I have commented on this for years and years, if you are just now catching up, it’s been talked about here for YEARS!

Someone polished up his wiki profile, just as they did on gopack, made him look like he was a winner. The wiki used to display his team’s stats and now only show his HC stats, that was a real eye-opener.

Here’s what the fans had to say when he was hired by us:
    http://kentuckysportsradio.com/?p=1421

Here’s a little more about the TRUTH:
“UK was one of the league’s bottom two or three teams by every measure all four years of Archer’s return stint, growing progressively worse each year until it allowed more than 453 yards per game last season (just below Temple; only Louisiana Tech was worse) and finished last in the SEC in rushing defense, passing defense, pass efficiency defense, total defense and scoring defense. So enjoy defensive coordinator Mike Archer, NC State.”

Finally found it on here, they did a unx style cover-up on this one, I guess they wanted to make it to retirement before anyone found out what REALLY HAPPENED:
