Depth Chart for Central Michigan – Sweezy returns

Link

At least J.R. Sweezy returns.

Nice to see Darryl Cato-Bishop’s name.

Curtis Underwood returns in a back up role.

Taylor Gentry‘s injury wasn’t too bad and he returns (listed as starting fullback)

And, evidently Wil Baumann‘s hamstring wasn’t too bad.

    fwiw, sweezy played against GT

  2. baxter 10/04/2011 at 12:43 PM #

Baumann was handling snaps during the game, sounds like he’s pretty close to being ready to go again. I wouldn’t read too much into the 2 deep, we probably wont even do an injury report this Thursday, so the actual 2 deep will probably be different. Hoping a few more names show up on it Saturday.

  3. baxter 10/04/2011 at 12:44 PM #

Sweezy is back at DT this week, was DE during GT game.

  4. logarithm 10/04/2011 at 1:02 PM #

So glad Gentry’s injury wasn’t bad. We can put him back to use where we want to instead of at DT. I swear, everybody needs to vote for that kid for the Horsung Award. Most versatile player in college football. We just need to give him some carries on the ground and that’ll be a lock.

I don’t see Cam Fordham, the LSU C/G transfer there. I know he’s a bit undersized but I thought the coaches were really hot to get him playing, getting his year of sitting out waived.

Fortunately I will be out of town with family and will be able to watch this game.

Re: Fordham, Anyone think that having him eligible to play would allow Crawford to move back to the DL? We could sure use the depth.

My man, Art Norman, 2 star, unhrealded, late add in recruiting. True freshman, starting at DE

  8. TruthBKnown Returns 10/04/2011 at 2:37 PM #

What I want to see this week is a relatively EASY win (and by a sizable margin). I want to see improvement in the defense, and most importantly, NO MORE INJURIES.

We can win a good game this week and build on the improved play last week (yes, I said it!) We’re no where close to where we need to be, but I contend that we did play better on defense last week than we have all year. Had we kept our discipline on some of those drive-extending offsides penalties on 3rd and short or 4th and short, we might have been looking at a different outcome.

Tech was the better team, and that’s why they won. If we’re going to lose that game, at least we could hope for improvement. And I think I saw some.

FWIW, we held Tech to their season low offensive production in several categories. Considering how bad our defense had been, many thought Tech would break some records against us. And that didn’t happen.

I’m not into moral victories, and that’s all this was. But we do have seven games left. It’s not too late… YET… to have a decent season if we get our ducks in a row right now.

  9. TruthBKnown Returns 10/04/2011 at 2:40 PM #

And no, I’m not expecting us to get our ducks in a row. It’s a big “if”. One thing to be optimistic about is that TOB’s teams here have normally improved in the later part of the season. Hopefully the obligatory WTF games are behind us now.

  10. ADVENTUROO 10/04/2011 at 2:53 PM #

    TruthBKnown Returns,

You are hereby penalized 15 yard for unnecessary optmisism. Such is NOT allowed here. This is the TOB must go board. You obviously are a NEWBIE and must learn to play by the rules.

I have taken my hits for such, but I hate to see others suffer such pain.

You obviously listened to the post game comments based on your post. The GT game did get a little better at the end. TOB sounded like Mr. WE CAN DO IT (or as close as Eeyore can come to that). Coach (GT) Johnson was REALLY down in the mouth, even though they won.

SO, did the GT players really “LAY DOWN” and go to cruise control as many (er, majority?) of the posters have stated? OR, just perhpas, we, the less than mighty and less than at Full Strength, Wolfpack actually found some of the treasures that the folks in the Wizard of Oz wanted…There is WAY too much symbolism in the Wizard NOT to use the analogy here…so here goes….

The FIRST would be a BRAIN. That little addition tells us that we are NOT as good as we think we are and are in a HEAP of DoDo.

Then, we find a a HEART and realize that mistakes HAVE BEEN MADE. It is up to us (the team and ONLY the team) to correct this.

Finally, we find our COURAGE and once we have our Courage back (along with the D line), we show that we can play with the big boys.

If you looked at the stats, they were NOT that one sided. The Six Pick was about the difference in the game.

SO, maybe the Wizard will (or hopefully HAS) finally show the team their errant ways and we shall triumph this weekend and build on that momentum.

BUT, if we do NOT, then the Posters here will savage our comments and cast disperson on our mentality for NOT drinking their Kool Aide.

At least, this shut up the “CAROLINA & Butch” threads that have long overruled this place.

Either way, as Hank Williams supposedly ONCE SAID, “Are you ready for some BASKETBALL?”

    GO PACK

  11. TruthBKnown Returns 10/04/2011 at 3:12 PM #

For the record, I didn’t listen to the postgame comments. After State loses, I don’t listen to the postgame stuff on the radio, nor do I tune in to watch the TOB coach’s show on Sunday night.

I talk to my dad after games, and he thought the same thing. We played a lot better than anyone expected us to. I actually thought, when we had the ball and the lead was down to 7, that we had them where we wanted them. Our offense had been moving the ball and I thought we were wearing their defense down. We were getting stops against their offense.

But then we stalled. Next thing you know, we threw a pick six and Tech blew open some big scores and the game was out of reach.

I’m not optimistic that we’re going to turn things around. But I remember one year we were 1-5 and went to a bowl game, too. I’m not excusing TOB for the state of State football. Injuries are no excuse, because we should have better depth at this point. But they can be a reason for bad performances.

All I’m saying is it ain’t over til it’s over. An optimist would say we can do it. A pessimist says we’ll finish 3-9. I’m taking neither position. I’m just saying the season isn’t over yet. When we finish with fewer than 7 wins, I’ll join the chorus calling for a new coach. Because there is no sense in not at least going to a bowl game in TOB’s fifth season.

is it possible that any coach considering
us as a contender will contractually require
different uniforms for his first year?
bottom line, on TV, our current uni sucks.

  14. JEOH2 10/04/2011 at 6:49 PM #

Not our White Uniforms…boy they look clean…

  15. bTHEredterror 10/04/2011 at 10:33 PM #

They did play better, no one would dispute that, and frankly it was nigh impossible not to. But better than hot garbage can still be garbage.

They did find their heart, the running game. However, once is happenstance, twice (hopefully) will be coincidence. When I see it three times I’ll come back to the table. This team needs to run the ball more, to protect that fragile defense and their aimless DC, as much as to present a pocket statue some better downfield opportunities.

The brains part is still sorely lacking, ultimately the reason they couldn’t get over the hump against GT. And that’s damning to the staff. You want to overlook it, it’s your prerogative, I cannot. This staff was brought here to instill discipline in a program that was notorious for shooting itself in the foot. For the most part they have done that, but the last game was wrought with bungling.

Courage was evident, most of the mistakes were of comission not omission (like in Cincy), which is no less frustrating. But bearable. They fought hard in all situations, and even managed to recover from the deflating pick 6 to try again, against all reason down 45-21. I liked their spirit, but they have to get alot better.

Can they get better? Sure. This staff has used past bye weeks to figure out what they should have known in the opening part of the season and engineer turnarounds. But the margin for error is gonna be razor thin, so expecting a big time turnaround, at least based on what I have seen, is foolhardy. A couple of weeks ago I tried to do it, the Bearcat debacle took that dog out back and killed it.

Any word when Mustafa should be back in the mix of things?

  17. GAWolf 10/05/2011 at 7:06 AM #

Adventeroo: You’re an idiot. Very few people here are saying TOB must go. Rather, most are simply talking about where NC State football goes from here. For those who have any semblance of reality and knowledge of the situation, we know that TOB came here to retire and would likely give us 4 or maybe 5 years. That was the understanding when he walked in the door. Again, you’re an absolute idiot and your generalizations are unfounded and ridiculous. If you don’t like SFN, feel free to go back to your monkey board. I’m publicly outing you in lieu of deleting your posts so you’ll hopefully learn a lesson this time.

  18. ADVENTUROO 10/05/2011 at 9:16 AM #

    GAWolf,

I just watched a special on FOX about the idiots that ride 153 MPH on their bikes in the GA mountains because they can afford the bikes (until they are repossessed) and “Want to do it”. Perchanc you are one of them as you seem to fit their mentality. Calling me an idiot might help you feel better this morning, but it does NOT change the facts.

I suggest that you go back to the GT thread. It was over 300 posts. As a matter of fact, do a search of O’Brien on SFN. THEN tell my what percentage (this season) of the posts were Positive, Negative or Neutral. My informal count is about 40 – 45 NEGATIVE, 20 – 25 Positive and the rest is Neutral. Last time I looked, that was the MAJORITY.

I failed to get the memo that you allude to about TOB retiring here. I thought that he was SUPPOSED to bring his style of discipline to the team. That was the rallying cry to “GET RID OF THE CLOWN”.

In addition, he was supposed to develop a WELL CONDITIONED team. He never, according to him and the press, had the level of injuries at BC that he has experienced here.

He was supposed to develop TWO lines. He said early on in his tenure that that would take time. From a recruiting and also a player development. Unfortunately, it appears that he has not been able to do that. We can NOT recruit the athletes that have the raw talent and we can not recruit depth. As much as I despise UNC, it did appear that through HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE means, they recruited a lot of depth. Look at ther record last year and this year. Now, I am NOT, in any way, advocating that we even think about such practices. HOWEVER, and READ CAREFULLY, we need to be able to recruit players that are destined for similar sized schools. Most of the recruits that we got last year and have signed this year list Elon, ASU, Wake Tech, etc. as offering them scholarships. When we get into an EVEN FOOTING with the OTHER ACC Schools, that will be a VAST improvement.

NOW, he was supposed to develop our offense so that he could produce offensive players that were of the caliber that he had at BC. Well, we had one of them. NOW, I totally agree with RW leaving and support O’Brien’s positiion. BUT, that is about all we have to show for it. Mike Glennon will probably be a good QB. Had he been able to get more snaps in the past years, then we might be beter off. There were times when he could have played, but the coaches left RW in, and at risk, whne Glennon could have handled the rest of the game. Maybe they were trying to “condition” RW or run up his numbers.

As to you, my friend, I will stay here and continue to post. I really have been on the fence on whether Coach O’Brien should go or stay. I think that he is now, for the most part, in control of that. If AD Yow decides to keep him, OK, I trust here judgement. If she decides to let him go, then I also will support her recruitment. If you get any any secret memo’s on who she is looking at and what her criteria is for the next coach, please share them with us.

I have been a SFN poster and follower for so long, I can’t recall. I think it dates back 2005 or so. I have had at least one other screen name which I somehow lost. I DO tire of the incessant columns about UNC and what they are doing and why they are getting by with Murder. I totally think that we have NOT heard all the dirt, nor will we ever. BUT, I just get tired or reading about it and the rehashing.

Personally, I would like to see MORE articles or posts about the players and their personal accomplishments. Instead, it is a rehash of “WOE IS ME”. Follow the posts where all the folks critique every play in the blog. Some of it is funny and I read it for the humor. A lot of it is BS or “I TOLD YOU SO”.

So, if you are NOT a crotch rocket jockey, then I apologize to them for making stereotypical comments about their “smart”. The comment about being an idiot was totally uncalled for and it did, as you wanted, get under my skin.

I will get over it and you will always have, and are entitled to, you warped opinion.

Meanwhile, I will continue to post here and you might be able to put me on “ignore”….don’t know if that is an option here….but you can let me know.

    Y’all have a great day….and GO STATE!

Calling Adventuroo an idiot is unfair to idiots.

For everyone who is frustrated with this years football season and for everyone leaving posts/comments supporting this, just one question….ARE YOU ALL STILL GOING TO THE GAMES???? If so, shut up!!!! Love the Pack but support them from your house, bar, anywhere but Carter Finley. Keeping the stands full only sends the message that we are still on board and after reading more on Russell Wilson’s accomplishments this year I am not on board. Yes I’m talking about it, Russell Wilson…still wishing Glennon all the best but holy cow!!! It’s like watching your ex-girlfriend make out with your best friend…painful. Wow T.O.B., you were so right in forcing a decision based on needed time with young receivers…I mean Russell could never succeed properly if he only spent 3-4 weeks with a “new” team….wait, oh yeah he’s doing that right now and doing it well huh????? Only team in the history of college athletics (football) to push a way a heisman trophy winner…wow, what a possibility.

  21. Ed89 10/05/2011 at 9:40 AM #

Cam Newton started at Florida. Just sayin…

Russell Wilson (or lack of) is not our problem.

  22. nuclearwolf07 10/05/2011 at 9:58 AM #

Get off the RW train. One guy does not save this season. I mean, for crying out loud. We had Philip freakin’ Rivers in 2003, and we only made it to the Tangerine Bowl because we didn’t have a Defense worth shaking a stick at. Following year, we had the #1 Defense in the land, but an abysmal offense.

And what is this nonsense about not showing up for games to make a point? Really? At what point did we turn into those bandwagon turds up the road in Chapel Hell? You don’t like the way things are going? Then find another way to show your dissatisfaction. Don’t take it out on the kids on the field in uniform (players, cheerleaders, and marching band). We are better than that. We are smarter than that. Come on.

  23. ADVENTUROO 10/05/2011 at 10:37 AM #

    GAWolf & Old MacDonald,

Perhaps, if you can play nice and be civil, you could tell us WHAT the solution is. You guys remind of the folks that are protesting on Wall Street that got interviewed. When asked what THEIR solutions were, they said to “TAKE THE MONEY FROM THE WEALTHY” and I guess, give it to them. They were the worst lot of uninformed mindless folks that I have seen latetly. Were just moaning and complaining….suspect that they were part of a “Community Organizer” group to stir things up so that the other mindless troops will again vote for their “savior”.

I certainly hope that you folks don’t fall into THAT category. OK, I spoke my piece. It would be interesting to know WHAT you suggest that we do.

I, also for one, am NOT going to boycot CF. I may email AD Yow after the season or when it becomes SO apparent that even I can figure it out….

I played FB in HS and was in the NCSU Marching band. NOT having fan support SUCKS. We even had fan support when Earl Edwards was quick kicking on 3rd and long in Riddick.

Please enlighten us….as we, the OTHER mentally challenged, need your guidance and expertise.

  24. Old MacDonald 10/05/2011 at 10:51 AM #

Are you related to Bob Kennell?

  25. GAWolf 10/05/2011 at 11:06 AM #

I haven’t said the first thing about TON one way or another. I also don’t own, nor have I ever owned, a motorcycle. Adventuroo: You continue to prove that you’re a blubbering idiot. You started this, so asking me to play nice now is a bit comical and further evidence that you’re an absolute, complete idiot. Please keep up the humor as it’s the first thing NC State-related that’s even sparked my inner-emotions in months.

In case you’re unsure my stance, I think you’re an absolute idiot. Just to be clear…
