Open College Football Entry – State 28-10 to start 4th Qtr

We wanted to open a college football discussion entry for everyone sitting around today on a cold and rainy Saturday.

It is currently 3:54 and…

…Clemson defeated the defending National Champion from the SEC by 14.

…Georgia Tech defeated a team from the Big 12 by 50.

…Maryland fell short in a comeback bid against West Virginia.

…Butch Davis is attending his second consecutive UNC football game as a spectator…and, UNC is not unhappy about it because if he wasn’t there Kenan Stadium might not have any fans.

…DUKE WINS!!! at Boston College. Wow…I could not love this more! Congrats to Cutcliffe. Couldn’t love it more for BC.

As much as TOB has a history of standing by his assistants, he cannot be happy with Archer’s defenses.

our front line must pressure the QB because our secondary is literally terrible. Without pressure, We are doomed.

im with you WB…i do think we will win 4 or 5 games though. but that shouldnt cloud Debbies judgement. the team on the field tonight(all season) is/was not acceptable

  3. coach13 09/17/2011 at 8:46 PM #

Could we have thrown/scored more this game? Opinions?

  4. redcanine 09/17/2011 at 8:47 PM #

^^I agree with wbnation about Cole. He is forced to gain 15+ lbs. and moves to a different position. Now he’s not as fast and can’t get off blocks as well.

  5. coach13 09/17/2011 at 8:48 PM #

I’d love to know Debbie’s opinion of this game. Her real opinion, not the “for media only” version. Does she know football?

  6. wbnation 09/17/2011 at 8:49 PM #

thanks packback…but not to nit pick but where do you think those 4 or 5 wins are going to come? Boston College? Maryland? Central Michigan? Cause the team that has played the last 3 games ain’t beating any of them..no way no how.

  7. tractor57 09/17/2011 at 8:49 PM #

The most popular player on a team is the reserve QB. He did look good at mop up time but I also saw Glennon showing a bit more than the last two games. Blocking and tackling were suspect.

  8. packbackr04 09/17/2011 at 8:53 PM #

wb^ i suspect we pick a crazy win that noone see coming here or there. i think we can beat Central Michigan. then i see us absolutely ruining someones season later in the year (Hopefully Carolina) to get to 4 wins

  9. redcanine 09/17/2011 at 8:56 PM #

The defense looks like they’re playing on mud. They don’t pursue the ball with enough alacrity. Archer needs to celebrate this moment of serendipity.

  10. coach13 09/17/2011 at 8:56 PM #

If we stink like I think we do and UNC keeps winning, that bodes well for us. We NEED to continue to be the underdog and overmatched if we r gonna keep that streak going. That’s how that matchup typically goes.

so packbackr04…Brosious looked better in one series off 2 passes than Glennon… in the aforementioned “garbage time”…

Glennon who’s thrown for over 500 yards already and 8 TDs to 1 pick…so far…ok, cool

    redcanine,
he was never all that good in space when he was an OLB…got killed in coverage. His best attribute as seen even tonight is only when he is blitzing the quarterback. Now they have him in the middle I think because they believed they could put better guys on the outside that could move better in space and hide Coles deficiencies in this aspect. Unfortunately I really wanted to focus on watching what was going on with him tonight and all I saw was that he couldn’t get off of any blocks. It was horrible. And this was against a really weak team. The inside of the defense is its Achilles heel. Especially if Manning has to miss any significant time.

Its the reason this team can only rush 1 blitzer and the reason NC State plays soft zone 90% of the time, which makes the defensive backs just look horrible. Until the defensive line and MLB’s get bettter (if they ever do) then the DB’s are going to be hung out to dry all season.

How long b4 Sweezy gets back?

  14. redcanine 09/17/2011 at 9:02 PM #

    Fumbles = no points
    no points = losses

    Therefore…

Hang on to the damn ball.

  15. GAWolf 09/17/2011 at 9:06 PM #

Sneezy was originally hopeful for Cincinnati. Lord knows we need him back badly. He is our pass rush apparently.

Before the wide open bomb to Graham, Glennon had a YPA of around 12. You can’t shit on an elite number like that any more than you could polish the 5ish YPA turd against Liberty.

QB is not the problem. And you can have a bad football team even with a Heisman caliber QB (see Rivers, Philip, senior year).

  17. BJD95 09/17/2011 at 9:11 PM #

Now there’s a coaching point I heartily agree with – Cole to MLB never made sense on any level.

  18. tvp1 09/17/2011 at 9:12 PM #

I will say it again, we need someone who can recruit. I’m on the Manny Diaz bandwagon.

You can recruit here. Chuck had the right idea, he was just a lunatic/awful manager. (BJD: disagree about it just being “misfit toys” – what about that Mario/Tyler/McCargo/Lawson/Tulloch D?)

TOB’s old, tired staff is unwilling or unable to sell this program to recruits.

Last year was fun but it was a mirage – we were miraculously healthy and forced a very unusually hight # of turnovers.

  19. MA Wolfpack 09/17/2011 at 9:23 PM #

BJD and others, I like Green on the outside….think he is better than Cole. Maybe moving Cole inside was more about Green than about Cole??

  20. BJD95 09/17/2011 at 9:33 PM #

Not JUST misfit toys, but primarily…yeah. Lawson and McCargo were two star guys. The four and fives were mostly positionless and/or headcases.

I don’t think you can win here as a “recruiting first” guy. Coaching them up is more likely to work. But you have to have SOME baseline talent. And a guy who recruits and coaches well won’t stick around here.

So…hopeless, really. If TOB can’t get it done, I don’t expect that anyone will. No more than a random good season here or there.

Speaking of bad football – I know there’s some talent on the field, but Okie/FSU and OSU/U are just putrid football games. Almost painful to watch.

Our defense is getting shredded by D2 teams. Cinci is going to destroy us Thursday night. Thanks to Glennon we may put up high 20s or lows 30s, but they are going to rack up 40+ points, maybe 50+.

  22. tuckerdorm1983 09/17/2011 at 9:37 PM #

5-7 season. After the Cinn game I may have to revise things down.

    Wins
Cent Mich, BC, UNC or UVA

    Loses
FSU, MD, Clem and GT light us up like a Christmas tree at times square

Cinn may be close but we lose by two touchdowns in the end. We get them in 3rd and forever and somehow they get a first down over and over again. It doesn’t matter if it is 3rd and 21 they get it. Hell South Alabama could pick us apart. What will a sharper quarterback do to us.

Can we call this season a rebuilding year?????

  23. the reality 09/17/2011 at 9:40 PM #

Maryland came back and made a game of it, Clemson rolled over Auburn, Miami is up 11 over OSU in the third, the media darlings and their profession players over on the hill beat UVA, and heck, Duke even in won one in-conference.

Not to mention that a former ACC football player also lit it up out west again today as well.

    Pretty good day ACC-wise.

    Interesting JP Giglio tweet:

Name that N.C. State quarterback :

Player ‘A’ 57-101, 744 yards, 8 TDs, O INTs through first 3 games of the season

Player ‘B’ 59-92, 745 yards, 8 TDs, 1 INT through first 3 games of the season

One think I believe we know for sure – Wisconsin is going undefeated. RW might get his shot at a title. The rest of the Big Ten is fucking awful.
