Open College Football Entry – State 28-10 to start 4th Qtr

We wanted to open a college football discussion entry for everyone sitting around today on a cold and rainy Saturday.

It is currently 3:54 and…

…Clemson defeated the defending National Champion from the SEC by 14.

…Georgia Tech defeated a team from the Big 12 by 50.

…Maryland fell short in a comeback bid against West Virginia.

…Butch Davis is attending his second consecutive UNC football game as a spectator…and, UNC is not unhappy about it because if he wasn’t there Kenan Stadium might not have any fans.

…DUKE WINS!!! at Boston College. Wow…I could not love this more! Congrats to Cutcliffe. Couldn’t love it more for BC.

I wish I were an Oklahoma Sooner fan. Talk about having something to cheer for.

Cocks just jumped ahead of the Midshipmen in the 4th. 24-21.

Glad to see that punt didn’t ricochet off of someone’s dome.

So? What about 2-3 year recruiting cycle? TOB is working on his 5th class and I don’t see anything special yet. Starting over isn’t as bad when you haven’t really gotten anywhere yet.

We need star power. Some people don’t like The Chin but he could add a spark the way B Davis did to Carolina. There is absolutely not spark around TOB. Plus Cowher’s won a superbowl. I’m guessing he can coach as well as get some top notch coordinators.

Hahahahaha they completed a 3rd and goal from the 14

  8. tractor57 09/17/2011 at 8:14 PM #

hell star power I’ll be happy with blocking and tackling.

I think obrien should publicly answer questions on archer and the D

I started to mention the talent under Amato, as scattered and unbalanced as it was. NC State is not an easy sale, we need the folks above to start hiring people with some imagination. As for TOB, he could surely use a huge injection of imagination-charisma himself. Either that, or just needs to start winning, and winning big, immediately. If he could do that, with the level of talent that he is currently able to recruit, then nothing else would matter. I haven’t seen any evidence of that though.

Is there a good, young mid-major coach out there who might be interested in NCSU?

  12. the reality 09/17/2011 at 8:22 PM #

Glennon’s numbers should be looking pretty healthy again.

  13. coach13 09/17/2011 at 8:23 PM #

A good mid-major is the last thing we need. See earlier post. I’d just assume grind through mediocrity with TOB than try a midmajor. I’d take BMFD right now.

    where is manning?

I got news for you – TOB ain’t changing. He is who we thought he was. Except, he hasn’t been able to replicate his success at BC. I thought we were finally on our way after last year. But we’ve regressed, and I doubt we have a solid season now with 3 games of evidence.

I can tell you this. Debbie’s not stale. If she feels TOB has maxed out, she’ll encourage his retirement.

    not no but …

“I think obrien should publicly answer questions on archer and the D”

What questions are you going to ask that he’s not going to go into super vanilla coach speak to answer?

Archer’s defenses aren’t good and aren’t getting better. TOB is standing by Archer and not pushing him out.

We’ve hitched our football future to Mike Archer, as much as we’ve hitched it to TOB.

Coach13, if we could have Cowher become our head coach, that’d add a huge boost to our program, in terms of recognition. I just don’t see a coach, with some life left in him, go from the NFL to college, unless you get a guy like Bobby Ross, who’s at the end of his career and just loves coaching.

    brosius looks better than glennon

  20. JEOH2 09/17/2011 at 8:37 PM #

^ that is such a ridiculous statement

  21. coach13 09/17/2011 at 8:38 PM #

I know, but how the hell did UNC land Davis? Why can’t we do something to make everyone say WOW!

  22. Packfan28 09/17/2011 at 8:38 PM #

I was about to come on here and comment on our crappy D, no pass rush + zone defense = disaster, no running game, TOB’s love affair with James Washington, and then I read the previous comment “brosius looks better than Glennon”. STFU – are you drunk?

  23. wbnation 09/17/2011 at 8:41 PM #

So they move Audie Cole from OLB to MLB…that in itself was suspect. He got pushed around a lot on the inside by a crappy USA team, just imagine what will happen against a clemson or fsu. Games are won in the trenches and this NC State team gets pushed around on both sides of the ball. This is going to be a long long season. So what does Debbie do if State goes 2-10 or 3 and 9? Cause I can’t find many more wins on this schedule. Maybe Central Michigan?

  24. packbackr04 09/17/2011 at 8:42 PM #

no, glennon does nothing for me. hes a mediocre qb… at best. 3 of his 4 td’s were dump offs to RB’s and his only TD to a reciever was on blown coverage in garbage time when the d had already given up on the play. hes slow. he stares down receivers, his mental clock is not good. he fumbles snaps…. should i go on?

  25. coach13 09/17/2011 at 8:44 PM #

Too bad State couldn’t get enough points earlier for Brosius to get more experience. You know he had to be thinking this was a game he could see plenty of PT. I’m sure he’s disappointed.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling the next time we see him will be because A-Glennon has been crushed or B-we are getting beat so bad it doesn’t matter.
