“I am saying some are and this brings all hires of minorities into question by society. That is why I am against affirmative action.”

And yet the competence of white men, who only had to compete with other white men has never been called into question in the history of this country…

“Take an academic program at UNC like the department of Political Science at UNC of which I have a PHD from. Look at the credentials of the Professors. You will see they only hire from the elite programs, except when it comes to minorities.”

Black women professor (ultimate AA beneficiary, in many people’s opinion). BA Princeton, PhD UT-Austin

Black man- Reginald Hildebrand PhD Princeton

    White guy-Kenneth Janken PhD Rutgers

There’s a problem, when you assume one black guy with a PhD from Miami (OH) would taint all other black professors qualifications. It makes you prejudice and bigoted without having any information to back up your assertion.

Hung Wolf nails it. Unc continues only to react to negative press. When are they going to get ahead of this and do the right thing? They really are looking pathetic at this point.

That isn’t what is happening, though. It’s not “one black guy” tainting something. It’s the A-A program itself that results in people calling into question when a minority is in a certain position. It’s not that anyone thinks they can’t earn that position on their own. It’s that A-A is out there GIVING positions to people that may or may not deserve it. It does more harm to minorities (in the court of public opinion) than it helps. Because they ALL get called into question, even the deserving ones. Because we have no way of knowing which is which.

There was a time when A-A was needed and beneficial. A certain segment of society was behind the 8-ball, and probably needed a little help evening the playing field. But at this point, it’s no longer needed and only results in hard feelings from those of us who see someone getting hired ahead of us because of RACE.

But that is why many A-A programs are going away as time goes by. It served a useful and necessary purpose at one time. But it’s time to move forward without it.

A summer study abroad program should be manditory for such a degree (@ State too), as it is recommended/required for Spanish and French majors. This will penalize those who choose to enroll in this joke of a major.

You are right. Enough with the generalization. I have known many academics that were minorities that were superstars with the credentials to back it up, but then there are those that are not.
I have also sat in faculty meetings that were trying to hire a professor and I had a vote. Candidates that were clearly inferior were selected because of race and the only way a non-minority was going to get hired is if they were a superstar, not merely excellent or superior. While those in the room said it is for “diversity”, it was a code word for race. I consider that racism.
As a libertarian I am appalled at using irrelevant criteria to judge people.

I should not have brought this up. It is my mega issue. Thank you for your forbearance. I am very sorry if I offended anyone. I will meet you and buy you a beer and make it up to you.

Enough said and move on we have football to play and UNC to hate. The only people I hate because of their skin color are those that are painted carolina blue!!!

tuckerdorm, I’m with you 100%. But someone (I don’t remember if it was you, and I’m too lazy to click back a page to see who it was…) seems to assume that he was hired due to Affirmative Action. If someone makes that assumption without knowing anything about his particular situation, then it because a racist assumption to make. Just because some are hired because of their minority race, it’s still a generalization to assume a minority professor was hired for that reason.

Look this is too complicated to discuss in this forum. Too many things are said and misinterpreted. My position on AA matches that of Clarence Thomas.

In my life I have never voted for a Republican for President and I voted Democratic every time for the last 30 plus years. I sent money to Obama and have an “Obama” bumper sticker on my car. I think Glenn Beck is an idiot. Rush Limbuagh needs to be neutuerd. If Sarah Palin became VP I was moving to RUSSIA. Bill Clinton was the greatest president we have had in the last 30 years.

WHAT THE HELL DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH WOLFPACK SPORTS? YOU MAY POST BUT I AM NOT RESPONDING. I LOVE ALL YOU WOLFPACKERS, BUT I AM TALKING ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE. GOOD NIGHT AND GOD BLESS

Politics suck in general, and politicians are ruining our country.
