The Centennial Authority acts as the landlord for RBC Center, home to both the Carolina Hurricanes and N.C. State men’s basketball, and is paying for the $1.8 million project. To make a comparison, think of the Centennial Authority as the landlord of a home and you as the renter. The landlord agrees to make upgrades, say paint the house every decade, if you agree to sign a long-term lease. The 12,100 new seats are akin to the new paint job in that analogy.
The project includes 11,000 seats in the lower bowl and club level and 1,100 retractable seats behind the basketball goals. Those seats are folded up bleacher style for hockey games.
During the project, the stark difference between the old and new chairs is noticeable.
“It’s very, very distinctive,†House says.
