NC State names team captains

At the first team meeting, NC State’s players elected tight end George Bryan and defensive tackle J.R. Sweezy as team captains.

“These two young men are great choices,” coach Tom O’Brien said in a prepared statement. “They have shown great leadership throughout spring practice and in our summer workouts and their hard work and dedication have earned them the respect of their teammates.”

Bryan, a two-time All-ACC performer, ranks ninth in school history with 13 touchdown receptions. He is the only Wolfpack tight end ever to earn all-conference honors twice and he is on the preseason All-ACC team for 2011.

Sweezy, an honorable mention All-ACC performer in 2010, tallied 13 tackles behind the line of scrimmage as a junior and led the team with six sacks. For his career, he has played in 26 games.

This positive outcome is what can happen when you admit to and own your mistakes rather than trying to outwit the system all while screaming ‘I am a victim!!!’ with help from the likes of Bob Orr and Barry Slanders.

Congratulations Bryan and Sweezy. Well deserved, I’m sure. Why am I sure? Because I believe in our university, our program, the coaching staff, and Sweezy and Bryan’s peers.

    It’s actually very refreshing.

And I can’t wait to kick those cheating Hole asses again. Eff ’em up, boys.

    “respect of their teammates”

    That should be the criteria.

Amen, wufpup. I couldn’t be happier for Sweezy, it’s great to see the turnaround since his incident! Makes me think of Marcus Hudson, another guy who learned his lesson and bounced back

What’s Barry said lately? Is he trying to make Weslye a victim? He’s a victim alright..A victim of his own stupidity!

Congrats to both of them. These are two players that seem to have really worked their tails off week in and week out. They’ve earned the honor and let’s hope their leadership can inspire the rest of the team to bring the ACC Championship to Raleigh.

These two young men are excellent choices as team captains. I hope they both have all ACC years and get drafted in the early rounds. I think as time goes by we will see more and more NCSU players in the NFL. TOB’s reputation for building high character players is a known trademark. Quite a contrast from our neighbors from the west.

I couldn’t be more proud of J.R. He’s a great, great guy. What a fantastic difference a year can make with a ton of hard work and perseverance. That kid deserves everything he earns this year.

Best news I’ve heard in weeks…

Do the captains have anything to do with the music selection? Maybe he can get them to play something decent to go along with “who let the dogs out”.

Btw, these are 2 captains that make you proud to be a State fan.

J.R. seems to have definitely grown up and thank goodness that George stuck around. Throw in a deep passing attack (*graham) and we will be solid, with or without a run game

    Stay on topic, ladies.

(GAWolf: I know this story well and the case was rightfully dismissed as being not based in fact. An altercation occurred but JR was not the aggressor. Let’s move on as this young man obviously has.)

Excellent choices. I wonder who it’ll be next year.

As an outsider I would have expected Bryan but figured maybe Cole over Sweezy. However, that is not to say that I am at all disappointed. They obviously earned the respect of their teammates. Congratulations to them. As a fan, I’m proud to have them as the team Captains.

    Great NCSU article. Thank you.

Beginning of last year’s camp the staff had a military member come in and put the guys through a pool survival team building exercise. Sweezy was voted a team leader by the military during that event. I’ve also heard several guys talk about how JRnis a vocal leader in workouts and practice. He’s also, I believe, pound for pound the strongest guy on the team.

lmao, I correct someone’s misconception of marijuana, and the post is deleted. Nothing wrong with the post, others in other topics that go off topic don’t get deleted, yet mine does. No offense, but your small-mindedness has made me realize that the State fans who control this site only care about their own views, and none others. See ya.

“It’s just, I grew up an N.C. State fan, it’s a big deal to me, it’s an honor,” Sweezy said.

“It’s another dream come true at N.C. State, I guess,” said Bryan, who was named to the All-ACC first team for the second time last season. “I never thought I’d be a captain for the team, but it’s a great honor. I’m going to try and take on that challenge and do the best I can.”
