Wilson not fazed by pressure after Wisconsin move

Russell Wilson is not fazed by the hype created by his move to Wisconsin.

Wilson says Sunday at the Badgers’ media day that he is “not really worried about” the pressure, despite being touted as the final piece to a national championship puzzle, or at the very least a Big Ten Conference championship game victory.

“The most important thing is putting the work in; do something special every day in terms of my work ethic,” Wilson said. “Be special, don’t do the average. Don’t do good, do great. That’s my mindset.”

Even his teammates seemed fully behind Wilson as possibly being the starting quarterback, and his coaches are fully confident in his leadership.

Occasionally the Eye on CFB team convenes Voltron- style to answer a pressing question regarding the wild, wide world of college football. This week’s topic:

So Russell Wilson is transferring to Wisconsin. What does his decision mean for the Badgers? For the Big Ten race? For the Auburn team he spurned? Could it have an impact on the national title picture?

Ravens one of four teams reportedly interested in Cotchery

After losing out on veteran receivers Derrick Mason and Malcom Floyd in free agency, the Baltimore Ravens could be setting their sights on Jerricho Cotchery.

The Ravens are one of four teams interested in Cotchery, a league source told The Baltimore Sun, who is visiting the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

North Carolina starts practice amid questions, distrust

Standing in the end zone of Kenan Memorial Stadium after the first practice of the season Friday, offensive lineman Jonathan Cooper said he understood what might await the North Carolina football team when school resumes Aug. 23. There will be a dose of resentment and a dash of ridicule on campus for the players, the aftermath of a scandal that resulted in charges of nine major NCAA violations.

Some players want to hold their ground and fiercely defend the program and ex-coach Butch Davis, who was fired July 27, nine days before practice began. Cooper wants recovery under interim coach Everett Withers.

“There is that potential for people to feel disdain for us,” Cooper said. “Coach Withers does have to go repair things with the other side of the campus. We’re going to work harder to get our academics better, our attendance better, do the things that matter to get better viewed by people.

“I hate the idea of people looking at me like I’m a dumb jock.”

This is a couple of weeks old but always funny to dig through.

The Blew Zone donors’ lawsuit is fascinating. I can’t figure out who I want to WIN that one, but the extent to which they’re turning on themselves is the highest form of entertainment I can imagine.

Also amazing that they feel THAT strongly about the fact that CBMFD should still be their coach – when the rest of the nation knew 11 months ago that he should be gone. I personally believe it’ll do nothing but move the school further from a position where they’re willing to sacrifice academics for football.. so maybe a major backfire.

Best scenario? That backfire happens, AND the school is forced to pay back a ton of money. Unless… of course… the taxpayer gets saddled with the difference…

“Even his teammates seemed fully behind Wilson as possibly being the starting quarterback,”

? “possible starter”? I thought it was a done deal?
Oh well, the guy calls him a “senior” too…..

Russel Wilson is almost the worst interview ever

Comparisons to “Nuke” LaLoosh are well earned.

  5. haze 08/08/2011 at 8:02 AM #

Herb was the worst interview ever.

    Russell is merely most boring.

    blue zone donor’s suing.

Its like watching your enemy on the battlefield turn their guns on each other. In such a case you would sit back and watch with pure amazement.

I know it is not really likely, but I have dreams at night that somehow this will spill over into basketball.

It is painful to hear Russell’s canned answers. Half the time, his answers don’t even answer the question he was asked. He just goes into his spiel about how he’s going to practice, try to get better, try to be the best he can be, be a good leader for the team, etc. It’s kind of painful to listen to at times, and it was like this when he was still at NC State, too. He hasn’t changed a bit.

More power to him though. I wish him well. I just don’t care to hear about him any more from our local media. He’s a Badger now. Period.

I have got it. The title of the book about the UNC debacle

“Planting Seeds of Destruction: The Butch Davis Era at UNC-Chapel Hill”

    Get yours now!

The gift that keeps on giving with an extra special surprise ending that no one (at least tarheel fans) saw coming

As for this lawsuit (if it happens), the aspect I like about it is maybe Thorp will be forced, under oath, to explain the strange timing of Butch’s firing. There are several theories, but if the plaintiffs are able to make the case that Butch was only retained long enough to raise that money from donations, then Thorp will have to tell us the TRUTH about why he fired Butch when he did.

This can help expose them for the liars and frauds that they are.

  10. ryebread 08/08/2011 at 8:55 AM #

Truth: Maybe they’re canned, but RW is also smart enough to watch himself around the media. You’ll never see a “we’re only going to lose 4 games” proclamation out of him.

I like the kid, will be following him at UW and wish him nothing but the best of luck. I think it’s best for NC State fans though to focus on Glennon and our team. The comparisons will come soon enough from others.

  11. otisthetowndrunk 08/08/2011 at 9:34 AM #

Let Russel be a lesson to others. IF you get your name called out on senior day/night, you wont be playing here next year. I hope he does well. Will root for him right up to the point of him playing against NC State a some bowl game (if it were to happen).

But if he were playing here this year and was honored on a second senior day – that would have been the worst senior day moment since Tim Wells’ senior night.

There is still an important article that has yet to written. It is now plain to see that UNC football student-athletes received money (coach/agent-runner), extra privileges (parking tickets paid by tutor), and no accountability for grades (Swahili major and “honor” court). These are clearly unfair advantages, ‘cheating’ if you will, and no doubt will lead to wins being vacated.

Now, do we have ANY reason to believe that these advantages were not in place for basketball? We can’t trust the UNC administration to answer this question, because clearly, they don’t really know what has been going on over there.

Can someone ask Roy Williams this question, point blank?

Until this is investigated, their last 2 National Championships in basketball don’t count, at least in my mind.

  13. logarithm 08/08/2011 at 9:57 AM #

Good for Russell. I’m excited for him but I think we’ll be a more dynamic team with Glennon. Wilson may have been a more dynamic quarterback but Glennon will make for a more dynamic team. I wish him all the best but I’m not going out of my way to follow him in Wisconsin. I hope one day SFN reports that he’s finally a pro in the NFL and MLB at the same time.

Hopefully this Blue Zone suit lasts forever, keeps the project on hold for over a year and distracts Thorp or whoever replaces him from making quality hires at AD and head coach. This is one more thing that can cost them a lot more than money and embarrassment over what the suit is actually about.

@JeremyH, maybe they’re all crooks but the burden of proof is on the accusers. Plain and simple. To drag Roy and the boys into this would be enormous and maybe their involvement will be insinuated if/when Thorp’s email and phone records are released. Innocent until proven guilty. We’d just sound like whiny children instead of gloating rivals if we start talking about how we just KNOW the basketball team’s crooked too.

Has anyone invented a special audio filter so I can listen to the Wolfpack players’ answers without having to listen to that jackass Glenn’s voice?

  15. Hungwolf 08/08/2011 at 1:13 PM #

Maybe it is just me, but seems like our football program is getting the most press and attention in the local media this season than any since TOB became head coach. I wonder if the press has grown to respect TOB and our program especially given the mess over on the Hill?

  16. ncsu1987 08/08/2011 at 1:31 PM #

Hungwolf: I agree with your observation – our program does seem to be getting more coverage. I doubt, however, that it’s because of newfound “respect” for TOB and certainly not for our program. The coverage that we’re getting would normally be reserved for those precious babies in blue….local media is keeping them out of the spotlight as much as possible while the scandal rages.

Just saw on the Monkey Board site that Torian Graham withdrew his commitment.

  18. TruthBKnown Returns 08/08/2011 at 1:48 PM #

DRW, if you post something here that you “saw on the Monkey Board site”, but yet, you insult that site by referring to it as a monkey board site, I’m not really sure what to say about that. It just seems strangely ironic to me. 😉

  19. Virginia Wolf 08/08/2011 at 2:06 PM #

I’ll surely be following RW as he leads a Wisconsin team to the Big Ten Championship game. He’s a good guy and I’m going to miss having him here. However; I’ll be fully supportive of Glennon and our team! Now as for the lawsuit, I think this is great! Don’t know who I’m cheering for in this but it surely adds to the entertainment this year. Hopefully, it will string out at least another year. This is so much fun! Its good to see them turning on each other this way. Will be interesting to see what comes of this.

    Torian Graham decommitted?

  22. DRW 08/08/2011 at 2:27 PM #

Truth: Didn’t want to mention the name and give them free advertising! 😉

  23. Greywolf 08/08/2011 at 2:37 PM #

Not that anyone did but to compare our situation with Wisconsin’s is apples to oranges. We would have welcomed an All-Big Ten grad student with Davis and Stone our QB options — Spring Practice or not. With MG waiting in the wings, TOB had little choice but to go with Glennon. Trust in our HC was on the line. And that’s worth more than 1 year of RW. BTW Stone is one of my favorite all time people to play for State. Not favorite player, but favorite people.

  24. TruthBKnown Returns 08/08/2011 at 5:48 PM #

DRW, gotcha. But if you copy information from a monkey board and post it here, does that not automatically make it a “monkey post”? 😉

But on a serious note, I think it’s only fair to post a link to the source when bringing news from one board to another. After all, they DID post it first. When I post SFN stuff elsewhere, I always link back here. Whoever originated the info deserves the extra “unique clicks.” 🙂
