UNC managed to break almost every corner of the rule book: Academic fraud, extra benefits, John Blake unethical conduct and more.

So far consistent national response to #UNCNOA has been 1) Worse than USC 2) How does Butch Davis survive?

Also, A LOT of instances of “false and misleading information” provided to NCAA. So much for that “full cooperation” Baddour crows about

Whoa. Apparently a player told UNC about Chris Hawkins and potential improper benefits and UNC did not “adequately follow up on information”

Can’t wait to hear the NCAA’s position on how USC lacked institutional control re Reggie, but UNC only failed to monitor…half the squad.

Perhaps I take the term ‘lack of institutional control’ to literally. Perhaps it has some hidden meaning. But defined plainly, this is LOIC.

Be on the lookout for scholarship strips, wins vacated, TV ban and LOIC. Again, these are just possibilities looking at the NOA.

Butch Davis’s career record at UNC is presently 28-23. It’s about to become 4-23.

If not a complete lack of institutional control, certainly a wholly ineffective measure of it.

So Wiley’s alleged to have paid $1,789 in traffic tix for a football player. That partly explains how that mountain of fines got paid.

Most shocking part of NCAA letter: 9.c — UNC may have known about some benefits but “did not adequately follow up on information provided.”

TBK-I think we are on the same page. It just hit me wrong when I read that because I think it gives uneccessary fuel to the fire that all we care about is “their” problems and “their” issues. So much to the point we do not care about our own success. You and I know that is not true but that is how they will interpret that.

FWIW I do think they deserve LOIC!

Does Item 9.c of the NOA (failure to investigate student-athlete report of violations) constitute cover-up, LOIC, FTM or what. That seems pretty blatant to me.

^ Agreed. I don’t want them to be penalized because they’re the Holes. I want them penalized appropriately for the rules they broke. People think we just hate them (which I do!), but it’s more than that. Most people don’t enjoy seeing rule-breakers get by with that. It’s like this. If I’m working hard to earn a “B” in a math class. And a fellow student is cheating his way to a “B” or an “A”, of course I want him to get caught and punished for that. The fact that I “hate” that guy outside of math class is irrelevant.

I believe they made gains in their football program (even if they haven’t won any championships yet), that I would consider ill-gotten. That’s why I want the hammer dropped on them. I think TOB’s gains have taken longer because he did things the right way. He recruited the “right” kids. They don’t all have the stars that Carolina’s players have, but I wouldn’t trade ours for theirs. It took TOB a little longer to get things going, and I shudder to think Butch took shortcuts to make the progress he has made. So they need to be set back accordingly. Obviously, I don’t like Carolina (outside of this investigation). But that has nothing to do with my reasons for wanting them punished. Sure, I’ll enjoy it on a personal level when it happens. But it still NEEDS to happen.

And imagine the recruiting tool it would be if he’s allowed to tell recruits how untouchable Carolina is.

On a brighter note, I expect PART of their sanctions will be a probation period for a number of years. If Butch stays, I fully expect more rules to be broken in the future. He’s bringing in solid talent, but the downside of his recruiting is that SOME of them only care about themselves. They are the ones that will land Carolina in hot water again in the next 3-4 years. Carolina fans should be really scared of THAT factor alone. Keep Butch, and your problems will most likely persist. He’s not a disciplinarian, so the lack of discipline WILL manifest itself again. Count on it.

All this does make me appreciate TOB that much more. I was afraid Amato would eventually get us in this kind of trouble. But I trust TOB will not.

Going to need a lot of popcorn. September the 19th is a Monday, not a Friday. The press is not buying your spin. Parents of your recruits aren’t either. I still say Butch departs this summer. Acting FB coach next year.
