Michael McAdoo and (UPDATE Robert Quinn) in D.C. party pictures with Coples?

About two weeks ago we ran this entry with the pictures of Coples at the now-famous post-draft party in D.C.  At the time, we had no idea who the guys were who were in the pictures other than Coples (on the right).  Art Chansky, for one, has stated that there were more UNC-CH players than just Coples at the party.  We are not saying we know know with 100% certainty, but a little internet searching has led to some guesses.  We will let the reader be the judge.  As an aside, isn’t it cool how the “sideways scissors” hand sign shows off their V.I.P. wristbands?

First, let’s try to identify the guy with the glasses in that picture above.  Does he look like #94 in this picture?  He does to us.

#94 in that picture is UNC-CH rising senior defensive lineman Michael McAdoo.  Here is McAdoo’s media guide picture.

Again, looks like the same guy to us, but you be the judge.

Next, let’s try to identify the guy wearing purple. UPDATE ALERT — apparently the guy in purple is Robert Quinn.  Earlier we thought it could have been Eugene Robinson, but apparently it is not.  Of course, if the local news media were doing their jobs maybe they would have asked some obvious questions by now — such as who are the three other UNC-CH  players at the party with Coples? (As mentioned by Chansky in the link from the first paragraph).  Here is a picture of Quinn.

Readers should remember from this entry that Quinn was ruled permanently ineligible last fall for accepting “two black diamond watches and a pair of matching earrings.”

There have been a lot of rumors that linebacker Kevin Reddick and another UNC-CH player were at the party…but, at this point we haven’t run across any pictures.

It would be ironic if both Reddick and Coples were at the party together as ‘partners in crime’ since they also appear to be ‘partners in unnecessary roughness’ and general douche-baggery on the field. NC State fans will remember that Reddick is the UNC player that threw a punch at the head of NC State’s Jarvis Williams in the Wolfpack’s 2010 victory over the Tar Heels.

…that is the same game where Quinton Coples laid one of the worst late hits you will ever see on a quarterback in what most could only assume was a an attempt to injure the Wolfpack’s Russell Wilson. (See the 1:50 mark of this video.)

Wait a second…haven’t these two upstanding players shared top billing in another entry here on SFN in the past? Oh yes — here is your MUST review entry!
Who knows…these guys may be ‘partners in ineligibility’ real soon.

Stay tuned.

Readers who want more detail on McAdoo can read this entry from February.  He was declared permanently ineligible by the NCAA last November.  As you can see in that piece, the last we heard was that UNC-CH planned to appeal the NCAA’s decision, which Dickie termed “unfair.”  I wonder if they still have an appeal in the works given this latest development.

About Coples, though…… if he produces receipts that show he paid his own way, whatever happened with that? How long should it possibly take to get a yes or no answer on the receipts thing? If he hasn’t produced them, why is it taking so long to just admit that he doesn’t have them? If he has, then why haven’t we heard about it?

Thugs is as thugs does. If they act like thugs, they are thugs. The late hits and sucker punches on the field demonstrate their meanness. Those may not be bonafide gang signs but their embrace of street gang culture glorifies it.

As a NC State fan, it is my job to declare that a gang sign.

As a normal person, it is not a gang sign. It is just a trend for how to pose for a picture.

As a SFN user, it is a sign they use to prove to their gang overlords that they carried out the hit that they were assigned.

I will be sad when this is all over and there is another coach for UNX. It will happen at some point down the road. But once Butch leaves, that is the end of the fun.

Producing receipts may not end the questioning. They may have to show where the money that paid the bills came from.

If UNC ever cooperates and turns over the parking ticket and email information to the press as ordered by the court, then the real fun will begin.

But once Butch leaves, that is the end of the fun.

You’re completely overlooking the availability of Jim Tressel as his replacement.

I have heard many times that Reddick’s SAT was shady. Supposedly, he took it in Pamlico Cty.

True, but that’s a sub-point to the point I was trying to make. Why have we not heard something either way about the receipts? Hasn’t it been long enough for him to say (A) “Here are the receipts!” (at which point your sub-point comes into question, or (B) “The dog ate my receipts!”

I don’t get why there’s such a delay in even responding. I have to think if he even had any receipts, it would have been all over the local news.

But once Butch leaves, that is the end of the fun.

If the egghead contingent has any say in it, maybe they’ll do something like we did back in the late 80’s with Valvano’s replacement — hire a guy to clean things up, while the football program takes a backseat.

That is my dream anyway. They need to pay dearly for their NCAA crimes.

I cannot agree with the sentiment that these are not “bad” kids. The only facts I know about them are:

    1) They play football for UNC
    2) They cheat and receive improper benefits
    3) They pose for pictures trying to look like badasses but come across as a thug wannabe poser
    4) They sucker punch and late hit their “non-rival”
    5) They have NEVER beat their “non-rival”

Taking all of those FACTS into account I cannot help but think that these individuals are pieces of s***, along with their coach.

  11. tann84 06/01/2011 at 2:47 PM #

    lol

I get it. You want them to be bad because it helps fuel your dislike for the program, also its funny. I got no problems with that.

    @RTpAck

UNC won’t turn over anything until their appeal is heard. Hopefully they’ll lose that too and then will be force to turn everything over to the media.

  12. MrPlywood 06/01/2011 at 3:09 PM #

“…and the blood sign you need two hands to do because it spells out blood.”

That’s why I never joined the Bloods – too easy for someone to pop a cap in your azz while you’re fumbling around trying to make your sign.

I think UNC knows the appeal will be denied but they were never expecting to win that anwyay. What they are after is simply sweet time. I believe their strategy is (or was prior to Coples) to drag this thing out with the media lawsuit as long as possible in hopes that the NCAA would go ahead and make their ruling. While some sanctions were likely in the cards, they may have been fairly minor. And most of all, Butch would be able to stay on and keep things moving (don’t forget that $70M Kenan expansion is still being built and paid for). A collapse of the football program means selling seats in a newly expanded and unpaid for stadium is at great risk – especially with their fickle fanbase.

Based on what Yahoo’s Robinson had to say, UNC’s stategy appeared likely to pay off until “those meddling kids” got in the way. That means you Coples and McAdoo. Now the heat is back on. And perhaps the NCAA will now decide to wait around awhile before ruling so they can see what comes from those email records and parking tickets. And personally, I think the parking tickets are going to be a treasure trove, ala Tyrelle Pryor at OSU. UNC is much better off if the NCAA will go ahead and rule on them as soon as possible. Let’s all hope for no movement from the NCAA until fall. By then the appeals process will be complete and the dirty laundry will be put out on the line.

Some WANT them to be bad, sure. But that doesn’t MAKE them bad. I’ve watched a lot of thugish behavior on the part of Carolina’s players since Butch arrived. That has Butch’s fingerprints all over it. They are spoiled brats when they lose, and they are not gracious winners when they win. They ARE bad. Of course, not ALL of them. But there are plenty of bad apples on that team. They are undisciplined, and that is because Butch does not discipline them. mariQUANa Sturdivant never sat out even one game after his “issues” with smoking pot. Butch didn’t even bench him for one of their easy games. Another player, I forget the name, was one of the academic cheaters. And I believe he had other NCAA violations, too. Not only did they not kick him out of school, or off the team, but they fought tooth and nail to get him BACK ON THE FIELD! There is no discipline, whatsoever, with this bunch. And that’s the fault of Butch Davis, period.

He could make an example out of one or more of these players, but he won’t. It is too important to him to win football games. As a result, his players are undisciplined thugs that take swings at you, hit you 5-10 yards out of bounds, etc. I also recall Greg Little standing over an injured State player two years ago, and it appeared that he may have even spit on him before walking away.

There are a lot of bad apples on that team. You can blame it on our dislike for the program. Or you could try opening your eyes during the game.

  15. tann84 06/01/2011 at 3:32 PM #

@backnine Exactly which is why people that want the NCAA to hurry up need to understand it took them 5 years to get USC, the longer they are there the better for NCSU fans looking for their downfall.

The longer they are there = more infractions they fine = more punishment.

Think we may want to write a brief follow up apology for misidentifying Gene Robinson, looks like it caused a stir.

    You had me at #1.

  18. tann84 06/01/2011 at 5:03 PM #

I don’t know if there is any apology needed. All that was done is asking of a question, is this a picture of said question; the answer is no then what is there to apologize for? If people in the media would put on their big boy journalist pants and ask questions and use their resources to find answers there wouldn’t be space for SFN to do it. Yet here we are. And we still don’t know who those players were yet some media members have the time to criticize. Instead of criticizing do ya job.

  19. tann84 06/01/2011 at 5:06 PM #

question should be person in the comment above.

  20. 85pack 06/01/2011 at 5:40 PM #

Once again SFN is on top of things. Has this great bit of sleuthing been forwarded to the NCAA ?

Great job guys keep it up.

  21. freshmanin83 06/01/2011 at 7:19 PM #

I don’t hate unc. I want NCSU to beat good teams in the ACC. However I do want a level playing field as well. If there is something there and NCAA finds it fine. They are very young men with a lot of money and things being shoved in their faces it is easy to make mistakes. Having a coach that would help them make good decisions would probably help them. Of course the cheap shots and hitting should be dealt with and has been I thougt?

I know most of the “gang sign” stuff is tongue-in-cheek…but jic,

let’s stop pretending that it is anything more than just a common gesture…that’s all it is come on guys..

and for those trying to explain…gangs have MULTIPLE signs and there are multiple different gangs with various different signs…so…yeah…

BTW, UNC fans are actually showing signs of nervousness…some of my UNC comrades actually commented that they thought the investigation was “over” and that this brought a “new one”…wow…

  23. tuckerdorm1983 06/01/2011 at 8:09 PM #

I tell you fellows it is the sign of the Van Buren Boys (see seinfeld episode). Kramer flashed at the pizza parlor and they backed up. George flashed it and got in trouble.

I know it ain’t no gang sign, just having fun. At best they play around with the gang culture mystique. I know they ain’t real gang members except if it is “Butch’s Gang” and then the sign is a fist with one hand and the howling wolf with the other hand and the fist punching the wolf sign

  24. Old MacDonald 06/01/2011 at 9:11 PM #

But wasn’t the “Van Buren Boys” sign eight fingers — because Kramer was holding the garlic salt with the other two fingers — Van Buren being the 8th president? Hilarious. I guess the “sideway scissors” would have to be the “Adams Boys” gang sign.

  25. Wolfy__79 06/01/2011 at 9:14 PM #

    ^haha.. i’d say that’s perty accurate.

to me it’s just a play on the peace symbol.. no more qualifying them as gang bangers as anyone else their age. i would say we’d be reaching a bit on that if we were serious.
