NC State’s Andrew Brackman is already a part of the New York Yankees organization…so, it is only fair that the city’s other team gets a Wolfpacker.
Right-handed pitcher Cory Mazzoni became the first N.C. State player to get selected in the 2011 Major League Baseball draft on Tuesday.
The junior from Evans City, Pa. went to the New York Mets in the 2nd round as the 71st overall pick.
Mazzoni (6-1, 195) had a 6-6 record with a 3.30 earned run average for the Pack (35-27) in the 2011 season.
State was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament on Sunday in Columbia, S.C. after a 5-3 loss to Stetson. On Saturday in a 5-2 win over Georgia Southern, Mazzoni went eight innings and struck out 12.
