Hopefully he can live his dream and be a productive team member.

Good to see positive things happening around the BB program.

Battle is a good kid that will be a nice addition to our team.

Welcome Staats. It appears to be a very good addition and will help in practices.

Not related…noticed Nadal article on Sports online page of N&O (below that article) had picture of Sharapova instead of Nadal.

Quality Job 1 at N&O though I do prefer this picture I’ve whatever one they had planned for Nadal article.

So, is this someone that could actually get some PT down the road? Not that a walk-on who only participates in practices can’t be a good addition; just curious. I think it’s great he wants to walk on.

    Great article, West Coaster!

One can dream. For most of us, that’s all we’ve had for 20 years.

Oh boy…just what we need, another country clubber from Broughton as a walk-on for our basketball team. WE ARE BACK!

I hope he gets at least 10-16 minutes in ACC play, one minute at the end of each of our wins. Maybe he can dribble out the clock and nail a meaningless 3-pointer as the Heels slump off the floor.

What’s his GPA? Unfortunately, not just on-court skills are considered for walk-ons. Often times the better players at walk-on tryouts are passed over for those who have an adequate game but the higher GPA…gotta pad that team GPA.

Good Pick up G…He is def gonna give us depth for our team…Who is G picking up next???

    Amen Rochester!

(Just sounds like a nice article from a local media outlet covering a local kid w/ a chance to suit up with a local university, nothing more)

“…nail a meaningless 3-pointer as the Heels slump off the floor.”

It would mean something to him 🙂

There is no downside to this. This is nothing but good news. He’s not costing us a scholarship. Worst case, he rides the pine. Best case, he provides some valuable minutes of the bench and becomes a role player for the team. More power to him! Hope he worked out well for us. If not, it cost us NOTHING.

Welcome to the Wolfpack Mr. Battle. Compete hard and have fun. I’m pulling for you to earn a scholarship.

When I read the headline I thought, Who is this Broughton kid, and why is it such a battle for him to walk on? Guess I’ve been away from Raleigh too long.

In the above linked article, this is what concerns me:
“This is a year where we’ve got a few pieces. There’s not a lot and we’re not deep, and we’re not a team that is going to contend, I don’t know for a whole lot of things. But, I like this team, I like how they’ve come on board.”

We’re the fans, we KNOW that the house was not in order when Gott was handed the keys. In order to get the very best out of his team though his job is to make his players believe that they can “contend” for everything. What are they to think when they hear their coach say otherwise? As a coach he should use every opportunity to express the highest expectations — to push them beyond their own expectations.
