Crappiest home September schedule that I can remember…wake me up on October 1…

  2. runwiththepack 05/11/2011 at 3:05 PM #

Last year the Pack was close to a very good year. It was, without doubt, a good year. But it was very close to being a much better year.

This year is another crack at such a VERY good year, with good reason to believe that it can happen.

No Russell Wilson, no Nate Irving, not as many good receivers… but there is a ton of good players returning, especially at OL and LB. Potentially sterling kickers arrive, God willing.
If DB’s can leap to a higher level of play, then WATCH OUT FOR THE WOLFPACK. Although I don’t see them as being much, if any, better, the intangibles could make the difference btw 9 wins and 11 or so.

Oh, and I can hardly wait.
For the time being, I will just have to rely on the baseball team to distract me from high anticipation for the football team.

Class of 89, look on the bright side, although i generally agree with you. Our new qb (i presume) might need a soft sept schedule. There are plenty of tough games soon after.

    Wake: Need Mustafa full steam.
    Cinci: TRAP game. Beware.

Irrelevant now that we’ve let RW go.

what’s up Papajohns.com bowl? haven’t seen you in a while

The Wake game will be telling. Take care of business there and I will feel very good about our chances at a very good season.

Don’t care if we lose to Cincy. Not a conference game – glad none of those come off a short week.

  8. ncsukyle 05/11/2011 at 4:49 PM #

How is this a crappy Sept. schedule when we have a conference game the second week and a Thurs. night game?

  9. howlie 05/11/2011 at 5:05 PM #

    crappy HOME schedule… HOME schedule^
    in Sept.

I understand the quality of the teams we play early aren’t doing much (if anything) to help our RPI, but I prefer our schedule over Clemson’s Auburn, FSU, VT 3 week stretch ending Oct 1. That’s pretty brutal.

  11. VaWolf82 05/11/2011 at 6:15 PM #

There is no RPI in football and the SOS only matters if you are competiting for a national championship.

I don’t especially like the OOC schedule either, but with Glennon getting his first starts, it might be better to open with Liberty rather than with Virginia Tech.

If we’ve got to keep playing these small teams, then let’s do what South Carolina does- play one lower-division in-state team every year, but not more often than once every 4 years. It would keep ECU off our schedule for at least 3 years, which to me would be a plus. I’d rather play Western Carolina, Elon and App State than I had Liberty, South Alabama and Central Michigan. Why in the HELL we’re even playing South Alabama is beyond me, especially when we already have games against 2 other lower-tier schools in the same season. Over what will be about a 10-year stretch, we’ll be playing South Alabama more often than we’ll be playing Duke.

    Stupid, stupid, STUPID!!!

Sure there are better teams to play, but I agree the experience early for Glennon will be helpful to his development, and regardless of all the negativity over the early schedule, we still have a conference schedule to play, and maybe we will be ready for that when we do that week after week. Good luck team, with your new QB, and offense. Russell is gone, and time to move on for better or for worse. Go Pack!

Thanks VaWolf. Still stuck in basketball.

i like the schedule simply b/c i want glennon to prove himself bit by bit. we don’t know for sure what we have in glennon but some of us, including myself, think he’s going to be good.. i don’t see the charge in him like #17 but i like the potential for him.. the schedule is good for that reason if nothing else.

clemson does have a pretty brutal stretch and i’m very interested to see how they handle that! i’ve seen teams have a difficult schedule and it play out making them a better team.. and weaker for a weaker schedule! still, given the circumstances.. i like the oppurtunity to start off slow and beat wake early..

cincy, that is a short week but i hope we get that win as well. the ACC schedule is much more important to me this year.. good w/l in the ACC and undefeated in ooc will be a good head of steam going into a potential bcs year in 2012.

I think the Sept schedule is good for this year, when we’re very unlikely to come close to contending for a national championship.
@ FSU oct 29 will probably keep us out of the ACC championship game, if FSU is as good everyone is saying they will be (and if we’re not better than the pundits are saying). But we’ll have a shot to win that one, too.

And after that FSU game, we still have 3 games vs. our division teams PLUS UNC. All 4 Nov games that follow the FSU game seem very winnable right now, 3 of which are home, if I’m not mistaken.

Maryland and Clemson in Raleigh in November – two games I would dearly like to win, given how much trouble they have been for NCSU in recent years. Carter-Finley will be PUMPED UP if we have a good record going into November – and November starts with UNC in Raleigh.
I can’t wait. I just hope the team can use Sept to build up a good head of steam. The schedule has 6 teams that bowled last year (i think Central MI bowled). And we have VA this year instead of VaT.

A 6-2 ACC season and a Peach Bowl bid are very realistic goals for this team. And though it will be a tall order, I like having pretty much one likely obstacle to the Atlantic crown – in Tally in late October.

Can’t wait for football to kick off.

“Why in the HELL we’re even playing South Alabama is beyond me, especially when we already have games against 2 other lower-tier schools in the same season”

I seem to remember we had a pretty strong out of conference team scheduled for this year and they pulled out or changed the year. Those types of changes kill any chance at a quality OOC schedule because they’re made so far in advance and there’s nobody left to fill the void.

Even though it’s a week home schedule to start, I look forward to seeing Glennon be able to somewhat ease his way in and (hopefully) be hitting his stride by mid-season. Although having an ACC road game for your second game will be no picnic for a new QB.

2012 is setting up to potentially be a very good one for us. I’m willing to sacrifice some wins next year if it’s part of the process to having an outstanding season in 2012.
