I wish DY was the AD when we decided to fire Jim Valvano and place ourselves on probation and voluntarily take away a couple of scholarships . . . .

I’m just saying. It’s time somebody stood up for the pack. They don’t let anyone run over them in Chapel Hole. We shouldn’t in Raleigh.

It sounded to me like the weight of the search and the silence (you just know she wanted to let everybody know what was going on, but couldn’t) just got to her at the rushed presser. She should have retained her poise a little bit; it wasn’t the time. But, again, she’s not afraid to address an issue head on. I’m sure she recognizes it wasn’t her shining moment and we need to cut her some slack. She showed great enthusiasm and seems genuinely excited. The search is over, we got us a coach, so we should support the entire administration. As for coach G, somebody get that man a “100 years of Wolfpack Basketball” book stat!

With me in 2 days Ms Yow went from a first class AD at my alma mater to an embarassment for the school.

Far too often, she has made this search about Debbie Yow and not about N.C. State. The simple way to answer those questions, or any questions regarding herself is by praising North Carolina State and its basketball program. The search should have nothing to do with Debbie Yow, other than the fact that she was leading it. It is about this school. It is about this program. It is about our players and our fans. Makes me wonder how some of these coaches were approached during that debacle of a coaching search.

She comes across as being ego maniacal and self-centered, lacking humility. Those are not good traits in a boss. Those fears might be irrational to a degree, but appearances become reality, and she brought those upon herself too frequently.

Come folks, she got emotional and was clearly upset about the antics of GW. Don’t see the need for all the criticism, seems like some of you will never be happy. Sooo in the words of Sgt. Hulka “lighten up Francis.”

I love State with every breath in my body, BUT I am with Gary Williams on this one. DY acted like a child, and I am embarrassed of her behavior.
We have a tough enough time with the Terps and GW and all she did was give him more AMMO.

Also, I have heard from some very good sources that DY is not winning over any of our big donors.
With that said, I do love the Gottfried hire, and I feel good about where we are heading in basketball.

    BUT Yow needs to go.

    two words: power struggle

I’m mixed on Debs right now, it’s her business to project a good image, but it also depends on what image best suits own goals. Remember Lane Kiffin saying he said crazy stuff to bring attention to Tennessee, because at that point for the program, any attention is good attention?

oh and Doyel is super funny.

  8. Howler 04/06/2011 at 3:31 PM #

DY didn’t make the hire “two days” after her letter. She made it twenty hours later. I think she needs to chill out for a while.

I was extremely unhappy with the process and now am unhappy with the unnecessary Gary Williams controversy, but now that it’s done, I realize that I made myself get excited about Sid’s hiring five years ago, so I can certainly do the same with Gottfried, who is objectively a MUCH better hire. Some quality wins will make all of this seem like a long-forgotten bad dream.

  9. thekind 04/06/2011 at 3:31 PM #

Also, I would bet the farm that when DY started spewing off at the mouth… Gottfried was thinking “Man, they are right, she really is a winch”!

  10. coach13 04/06/2011 at 3:43 PM #

Yow did not “go into” the gary williams thing. The reporter was directing things in that direction. She was rough but at least she addressed it and it ended.

Everybody at these pressers is always looking for the elephant in the room trying to get someone to talk about it.

    FU

When it’s appropriate, I can live with that image.

You guys are a bunch of dang _ussy’s. Really. Let the whole world run over your arse. Weak people. Weak.

I bet you are okay with everything Gary Parrish has had to say over the last two weeks. Think he has a friend or two that doesn’t like DY……

It’s a battle people. Come on, grow some and fight back.

If you can’t do that, shut the F up and go hide back in your little corner. IMO, if you are not willing to fight adn stand up for your team, you don’t have the right to whine.

    Who is Doyle?

  14. patientwuf 04/06/2011 at 3:54 PM #

I do not have a problem with DY answering a question with a direct answer. She put an end to the speculation. I’m sure commish Swofford going to have his say about this situation because it doesn’t invovle his precious Tarholes. He will never address the current problems at UNC-CHEAT.

    BIGGER FISH TO FRY:
Do you not see the problem? Why did 2 mid major coaches turn down an opportunity to coach in one of premiere conferences in the country? Regardless of their qualifications they turned us down-I’n mot happen about that and frankly that concerns me.

  15. tann84 04/06/2011 at 3:56 PM #

@primacyone Some people just like to complain. What can you do? Just ignore them.

  16. imissbball 04/06/2011 at 4:13 PM #

Perhaps she could have said it better, but she absolutely should have addressed the repeated insunuations that she is difficult to work for, or a “wench” if that is your preferred term. If you are tired of the media beating up on us, then you should be happy to have someone stand up to them. And I, for one, as a female, find it interesting that all you guys think she should have just sat there and took the insunuations against her reputation. I have trouble thinking you’d have expected the same from a man, like say Coach K or Roy. You know who WOULD have given the PC answer and not addressed it? Herb, that’s who.

How is it professional for Debbie to allow that to be the prevailing image of her. I tell you, for women in the public eye, it is lose-lose.

  17. imissbball 04/06/2011 at 4:19 PM #

^not “all you guys”, but “some of you guys”

  18. BladenWolf 04/06/2011 at 4:29 PM #

    ZZ^^

For the wallpaper, I photo shopped the dorky coeds out and left Sweatygary and his chicken wing. I’m still giggling when I see it…

  19. BladenWolf 04/06/2011 at 4:31 PM #

…But I do like the Miller Lite 22 in the background… brings context to Sweatygary’s “expression”…

After seeing what all has transpired in the past 3 days, I can say with a good degree of certainty that if NC State needs to hire another football or basketball coach in the near future, we’re screwed.

I like DY but was not in favor of her being hired for this job. We will have a difficult time attracting an A List coach as long as she’s running the show here, as evidenced by yesterday’s news conference.

IMHO it will be more than a little difficult for any school aspiring to be among the nation’s elite in football and men’s basketball to attract a big-time coach when a headstrong female AD is in charge.

  21. highstick 04/06/2011 at 5:00 PM #

Wonder if there is any correlation between those who are “calling out Yow for inappropriate behavior” with those “who were sure we were going to have the highest paid Coach Barnes/Miller/Donavan in the nation”?

Guys, she just sold 7,000 new seats in the RBC for the Maryland game!

  22. 61Packer 04/06/2011 at 5:05 PM #

Another reason someone needs to get Maryland back on our schedule TWICE a season (also Duke). That’s two of our 3 best ACC rivalries that expansion and especially ESPN has taken away from us. I’d like to see our AD do something about this!

  23. imissbball 04/06/2011 at 5:05 PM #

“IMHO it will be more than a little difficult for any school aspiring to be among the nation’s elite in football and men’s basketball to attract a big-time coach when a headstrong female AD is in charge.”

And that is quite possibly true…and a sad reflection on how the nation’s elite views women, IMHO.

Would a “headstong MALE AD” be a problem?

Maybe we wolfpackers should be proud to be setting the bar a little higher on gender equality?

  24. Howler 04/06/2011 at 5:13 PM #

    imissbball:

I have no problem with DY defending herself, but she was unprofessional in the way she called out GW by name and accused him of sabotage at a press conference to welcome our new coach, even if her allegation is the truth. At some point, she has to provide information to back up such a serious allegation, or else the public could rightfully accuse her of being a liar or crazy or both. She should have said that she is aware that the media has reported on her one strained relationship with a coach, but that she certainly does not deserve a reputation of being hard to get along with. This Gary Williams thing is now a distraction. And I hope it goes away soon.

  25. imissbball 04/06/2011 at 5:26 PM #

I hear ya, Howler, and agree it is a distration. It’s the media; it will be A TOTAL CONTROVERSY for about 30 seconds and then it will be on to the next thing. Until the next MD v. NSCU game and then it is ON!!!

Oh, and it sounds like Gottfried’s wife has primed him for the whole “headstrong female” thing. 😉
