Miller’s ‘answers’ won’t squelch State speculation

WRAL’s Ken Medlin summarized it perfectly

Miller took the middle ground — he didn’t deny interest, and he didn’t make a play for the job.

In this article, the N&O’s Luke DeCock attempts to break down the different angles of the

But State fans looking for a glimmer of hope will see one there. And maybe there is one. It was an odd moment. If Miller wanted to send a message, that’s how he would have done it. Who knows?
Earlier, while discussing Arizona’s tradition, Miller referred to himself in a somewhat odd way, given the rumors swirling around.

“You look at the history and tradition of our program under coach (Lute) Olson, players, teams, we take a backseat to nobody,” Miller said. “I happen to be the coach right now, and we’ll see where we go. We’re proud of going 29-7 on the year.”

DeCock says that ‘State fans looking for a glimmer of hope will see one there’.

Actually, I don’t have to see a glimmer of hope there. I don’t have to read anything into Sean Miller’s comments as what Sean Miller does NOT said speaks volumes. It doesn’t require a translator to interpret silence.

Sean Miller has been phenomenally consistent since the day the NC State job officially opened — he has consistently NOT made a public statement disavowing interest in the NC State job. No matter how many ways you want to slice it and wish it away…he has been given multiple opportunities to lay the issue to rest and he has not once taken the opportunity to do so.

That hasn’t stopped everyone other than Sean Miller from chiming in for him. Last week, Miller’s Athletics Director, Greg Byrne, (who kinda comes across as a douche) tweeted that Sean would have no interest in the NC State job. TWEETED it, no less. Great job, Greg!!! That will put it to rest. Nothing like coming our strong in a forum where nobody can ask you a question and proclaiming that there would be no more talk about Sean leaving for other jobs! Way to put that behind you.

Elsewhere, brainiacs in the media have been quick to proclaim that Miller would not be interested in NC Sate. Moron fans who couldn’t tell you David Thompson from Fred Thompson can’t fathom the thought. Heck, The Sporting News‘ Mike DeCourcy even interviewed someone who may have once landed at the Phoenix airport (two hours away from Tucson) who has said that Sean Miller will not be interested.

Yet, SEAN MILLER HAS NOT SAID HE IS NOT INTERESTED IN THE HEAD COACHING JOB AT NC STATE.

Why do you think that is?

Boyd, $3.2MM + Big Incentives and he’s giving coach k hell with one player. Welcome to back to Raleigh Sean.

Second game in a row where SM’s team with far less talent is giving max effort, running great seats and is giving more of a “name” program all they want. Duke may be in serious trouble.

Less than 10 minutes to go and SM and the Wildcats are up by 10. Mikey is starting to mouth the Ref’s. Obviously these Ref’s are NOT intimidated by the boys from the East. This could get interesting….

If DY has 3.2 Million in an offer, then the ticket prices are definitely going up next year….they may even put in credit cardcswipe urinals and stalls in the RBC center to raise money….and the Canes would cheer.

The lead just went to 14 with less than 7 points and the portly lady with the monsterous voice is warming up in the wings…

SM’s “announcement” may be delayed another few days. Now don’t take me seriously….I think he is the longest of shots, but you never know. A lot of “A” listers are still out there….not as many playing….but don’t get your Red Underoo’s in a bind over Billy Donovan….he is NOT on the radar or under it.

Well, I will honestly and readily admit that I did not ever think that I would obtain information somewhat related to the coaching search. However, my son happened to meet the Word of God basketball coach today.

His license tag caught my son’s attention (WOG BB). Much to my son’s surprise, he started a conversation based on my son’s attire. My son was wearing a combination of NC State and Michigan clothing so the coach mentioned that he had two players considering Michigan. One had already taken an official visit to U of M and the other was planning a visit there.

However, to make a longer story short, he stated that C.J. Leslie was returning to State for one more season and that the job was Sean Miller’s to have. The search would go no further until Arizona was done because the job would not be offered to anyone else prior to Sean’s decision.

Not sayin’, just sayin’. I can only state that I trust half of the parties involved because I know how my son was raised and what a Wolfpack fan he is. FWIW

P.S. The Michigan football attire is a result of some of our terribly lean FB seasons of years & years ago.

SM’s stock at AZ is going way up. They are going to offer him the world to stay at AZ.

  7. 8pack 03/24/2011 at 11:36 PM #

Wow…pay Sean Miller whatever it takes to get him to Raleigh…and…make it a 15+ year deal. This is the coach we need. He is simply dismantling K and the Devils. I already knew it…but now I am totally convinced. Sean is the guy.
Come back home, Sean! You will reach legendary status in Wolfpack Red!

Debbie better have one hell of a backup plan in place.

  9. Wolfman 9806 03/24/2011 at 11:47 PM #

I think that we are watching Sean get far to expensive with the beating that Az is putting on Duke. If he keeps winning, Az will throw everything at him and force him to stay. Suddenly, I’m very afraid that I foresee a press conference with DY introducing Shaka.

  10. eas 03/24/2011 at 11:51 PM #

I said earlier that we could match whatever money AZ put out. However, we better have an oil well under Reynolds to afford him now.

He just dominated, dominated, dominated Coach K.

Can Miller bring that Willams kid with him? If we get Miller, great. If it is someone else, Brad Stevens, fantastic.

  12. quypack93 03/25/2011 at 12:34 AM #

Dear 8pack, the “come back Sean” would have worked beautifully five years ago;-)). Wolfman, five years from now we might be begging Shaka to come after some other bigger program gives him a chance to show himself. Sort of like Arizona did for Miller two years ago.

I’m still waiting for anyone to tell me when NC State has hired a big name coach? If you answered never, you are correct.

All these people that claim to be State fans, talk about how Yow should pay this, and do that.

If State hires that person, Yow failed. State “should pay whatever it takes”. “I would pay Donovan $4 million a year. Of course you wouldn’t because you will more than likely not earn $4 million in your life.

I always laugh when I see some State fan say, State should pay whatever to get… The university system is billions in debt but… hell, I say we should be willing to pay whatever it takes. Oh, btw, UNC is also millions in debt so don’t say if you win in basketball you will be in the black.

  14. MattN 03/25/2011 at 6:15 AM #

I think we can safely take Miller off the list now. I cannot see how he would leave now.

  15. GAWolf 03/25/2011 at 6:37 AM #

I don’t see how one game changes a major life decision for a guy unless it’s winning a national championship game.

  16. Rochester 03/25/2011 at 7:28 AM #

I hope Miller doesn’t think the ACC won’t be enough of a challenge now after his team destroyed Duke so easily. We should have asked K to at least put up a fight.

  17. Wufpacker 03/25/2011 at 9:11 AM #

” I don’t see how one game changes a major life decision for a guy unless it’s winning a national championship game. ”

This bears repeating. Lose on Saturday and it’s basically no different from having lost last night (from a perspective of achieving life ambitions, that is).

If SM is interested in NC State, something I’m still only guardedly optimistic about to begin with, then last night changes nothing except the timing of the deal and the announcement.

(Disclaimer….the rest of this post is only more tin foil hat ravings)

In fact, all the national adulation he will be getting today for having beaten “The Mighty Blue Devils and Coach K….College Basketball Royalty” (or whatever) will possibly make him savor the job even more. Especially when he thinks about that compared to beating ASU (whose coach I can’t seem to remember) or any of the rest of the PAC-10 with the possible exception of UCLA, but even they aren’t what they used to be.

If he wants a shot at the best on a regular basis, and thus a shot at proving himself and his program to be the best, Raleigh is where he needs to be.
