John Miller said he talked to N.C. State athletic director Debbie Yow about his son’s future but Sean Miller took himself out of contention for the Wolfpack job before Arizona’s surprising 93-77 win over Duke on Thursday night in Anaheim, Calif. in the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament.

“I think he really talked it over and made his decision,” said John Miller, a retired legendary high school coach in western Pennsylvania. “He just doesn’t want to make another move and move his family again.”

    Well, now is this a fine kettle of fish? That comment fits a WHOLE bunch here. You guys are giving Bob Lee more fodder for his Board Monkey book.

    First….the “WHY did we hire her?” and the “We shoulda hired old Bobby Purcell….”.

    We hired Debbie Yow for a variety of reasons…..the first is her competence. While I agree that she was not beloved by UMD, she did have a point. Old Gary was getting a bit complacent and she does NOT tolerate complacency…..even Dickie Baddour got rid of the first chosen son, Matt D. I suspect that DY initiated the change….as did TOB.

    Next, if we had Bobby Purcell, then we would NOT be having this discussion about a NEW coach. I believe from comments that he made publicly and privately that he would have given Sid another year….and I would have supported that. I was also a Purcell supporter.

    I was skeptical of DY, but after finding out some things about her and also watching the manner in which she has taken charge and handled herself, I am now solidly in her corner. I will still send an email if I differ or if I have another point of view and she responds…..I do the same with Bobby and still support them both.

    NEXT…..Why did Sean Miller’s dad drop the bomb? That, as many said, was the path of least resistance. If you guys recall, many of the locals here and also from my home County, Catawba, placed a LOT of credence in Rick Barnes’ BROTHER’s comments (supposedly OFF the record). His brother was also an intermediary….as it appears Sean’s dad is.

    So, SUCK IT UP…..go out to Flight Aware and put in N88MF and N89MF. Mr. McQueen don’t have his plane anymore…..Mikey took care of that. You can watch the NO INFORMATION and re-read it. That will be as informative as all the speculation.

    I do profess to be a Mark Few fan, as is Fenrir. Not a lot of activity on that front, or at least publicly…..so who knows.

    This is the final round of the Sweet Sixteen. If you recall, we were gnawing our nails, scratching our manhood, or whatever nervous “tick” that we might have into APRIL and MAY of 2006. Many of the A listers are STILL playing…..do we have a SHOT at any of them?

    Don’t know, but I trust that Debbie Yow is working diligently on getting us a good coach. As I said on a recent post, when she DOES announce it, there will be calls for her immediate dismissal….and then, if I am correct, and we win some more games next year and are a Conference Contender, then she will nominated for Sainthood on this blog.

    I do NOT predict, for the record, that we will go to the NCAA today. The selection committee seems to be telling John Swofford something….and it ain’t that they love him. Even a fan in Ohio wrote a letter to the USA Today editor about the idioacity of their 11 Big East Selections and only 4 ACC and 3 of which made it to the Sweet Sixteen. Mikey is gone….Old Two Rings Roy seems to have his Elite Eight ticket punched.

    Thus, endeth the reading of the annointed words….

    If you don’t think DY is doing her job, then stop posting about here. State fans are tired. This negative energy is about the furthest thing from what we need. I will not bash or bless her until after the press conference. END OF STORY. If you’ve got something negative to say, please, for your fellow brethren’s sanity, keep it to yourselves.

    Boyd it is not bashing, But the god complex some have given her is a bit much. Some act like she can do no wrong and the pick will be great. She never hired a mens coach at CP, she hired vanderlinden in football and fired him after four years. She wanted to run a NC coach out two or three years ago. I’m sure she is great at balancing the books, but I don’t have the automatic faith that some have when it comes to her landing the next “K”.

    I can’t believe next season is shot. Absolutely miserable that we won’t win ANYTHING without a Miller or Barnes. This next season is the worst ever. And it’s Debbie Yow’s fault that Miller is happy with his career at Arizona and Barnes with Texas.

    Just chill. Can’t you wait until next season’s over (or maybe 2013-14’s) to say whether this search has been successful.

    I understand that debbie yow couldn’t talk to sean miller because he’s still in the tournament, but whywould she talk to his father when we have a search firm?

    Has Rick Barnes made a public statement one way or another regarding the coaching position at NC State? Has Sean Miller with numerous opportunities made any direct answers or answer of no interest in the NC State job? DY said in her press conf that situations with no information were often filled with invalid information. Patience is a virtue and a key in this situation.

    What does that mean? All I am saying is she is not god. Just because Debbie Yow is making th the selection does no mean it will be a home run. Claim down, I know that you think she could walk across the Red Sea then part it, but her image is over inflated based on the moran that preceeded her.

    Barnes and miller r both highly unlikely. The good news is that doesn’t mean we can’t find a coach who does for nc state what coach k did for duke.

    OMGWTFBBQ – ’98’s a hater. See that? I can play the interweb lingo-game too. And FYI, hyperbole will get you nowhere.

    What my comment means is that no one here has said that she IS god. No one. If you can find someone saying so, please post it. I’ve read people saying they have faith in DY, and that faith is based on the presser, and how the search has been handled to this point. Simple as that.

    statefan 1998 – just let these guys continue to trust in DY and re-arrange the deckchairs on the Titanic.

    If you had told me that 2 weeks into the search Barnes and Miller would have declined publicly what would you have thought? I’d have said 2006 redux – same thing I’m saying now. If DY delivers a top tier coach then i’ll HAPPILY give her props and eat crow…but so far this is really not that different than 2006 except less “insiders”. I will say we surely won’t end up with a Sidney Lowe hire but she doesn’t seem to be hitting any sort of homerun/triple/double so far.

    So Richard Pryor isn’t back from the dead? I suppose Generalisimo Francisco Franco is still dead too? (classical reference that no one under 40 will get…probably very few older than 40 for that matter)
