BJD’s Official “Tin Foil Hat” Deductions

At the bottom of this link, I told you to relax about the information void. Now, I hope to help make sense of all the static in the atmosphere. Important disclaimer – although I believe my deductions are logical, they are in no way based on specific intelligence. This is ME talking from my gut (or out of my ass, depending on one’s perspective).

Everybody has heard something about the coaching search. And what I hear from various, good sources is wildly inconsistent, shifting, and even downright contradictory. At first, I was extremely confused. I graduated from the college of engineering, damn it. I like order and logic.

But then, I had a mini-revelation.

Naturally, DY wants to keep things close to the vest. Assuming that goal, how does one get there? The usual strategy is to go on lockdown. Very few people know anything, and those few get watched like hawks. That’s all well and good, but in today’s world…much, much easier said than done. Even if you completely trust your inner circle.

Which led me to the alternative – if there’s a shit-ton of static in the air, how do you tell which feed is the real signal that you need to focus on tuning in to? And I think that’s where we are. I think there are multiple smoke screens, and smoke screens within smoke screens. How do you cut through the fog? You really can’t. None of us will stop trying, but nobody’s ever going to know for sure. Brilliant strategy.

So, sit back and enjoy the ride. And take heart that in order for such a strategy to work, you have to feel pretty confident that you will land an excellent coach. Otherwise, the various smoke screens just set up the fanbase for disappointment.

The photoshop above is great, but it does no justice the actual event as it unfolded. And it indeed an event of monumental proportion. It was a once-in-a-lifetime sight for me as I believe it would be for me. Thankfully. I seriously cannot stop chuckling.

I also fixed the last paragraph but the edit wouldn’t work for some reason (“sabotagery”):

Jebus. The edit button is blasted seriously… I cannot fix the above statement that sounds like the guy looking into the tree for the leprechaun. “To me, looks like a leprechaun to me.” Whatever.

For those of you, who like me, were unsure about the tin foil hat cliche but, like me, were too embarrassed to ask:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tin_foil_hat

A tin foil hat is a piece of headgear made from one or more sheets of aluminum foil or similar material. Alternatively it may be a conventional hat lined with foil. One may wear the hat in the belief that it acts to shield the brain from such influences as electromagnetic fields, or against mind control and/or mind reading; or attempt to limit the transmission of voices directly into the brain.

The concept of wearing a tin foil hat for protection from such threats has become a popular stereotype and term of derision; the phrase serves as a byword for paranoia and persecutory delusions, and is associated with conspiracy theorists.

Can you get rid of the UNC basketball highlights?

Damn, I always thought it was the Engineering school’s graduation cap.

I have been notoriously quiet on this whole topic as “nonsense is running rampant” both in the regular idiot media as well as this site.

However, as one of those “tail number trackers” from the prior coaching search, I’ve already checked Flight Aware and the Murphy Farms plane tracking has been blocked… Tell you anything?

“However, as one of those “tail number trackers” from the prior coaching search, I’ve already checked Flight Aware and the Murphy Farms plane tracking has been blocked… Tell you anything?”

It tells me Hosni Mubarak has fled Egypt and is the new SID for NCSU.

  8. highstick 03/18/2011 at 12:55 PM #

Maybe Murphy’s participating in enforcing the Libyan “no fly zone”???

Check this out for “some truth and a lot of fiction”…be sure to read the comments to the article…

You can blame a lot of our own perception by the actions and inaction by our own university, fans, and idiocy of the sports media. But it really bothers me that the world is inhabited by some many lazy stupid people. Does anyone use their own brain power anymore to verify information. So many of the comments on the article are so factually incorrect that it makes me wonder if Al Gore didn’t unleashed the “death of the truth” with his invention of the Interweb…

Not much analysis in that AJC article. It was clearly written from a GT point of view and slanted all the subjective answers toward GT. Whatever.

Read the comments…they are a lot worse than the article particularly when the Walmart Tarhole fan tries to add his two cents..

The comments about the lack of educational opportunities at NC State were a little funny too..As if scientific educational opportunities had a major impact on recruiting basketball players at either institution.

Given that nobody has any real idea as to who we have talked to seriously/who has actual interest, I’d say DY is managing the situation perfectly.

Hey, I’m scanning through all the channels the NCAAT is on, but am stumped. What channel is the State game on?

  14. Rochester 03/18/2011 at 2:38 PM #

^PoppaJohn, I think you need to look on ESPN Classic for the State game.

  15. eas 03/18/2011 at 3:28 PM #

ESPN Ancient. Classic is too current to show any Wolfpack games.

  16. drgreenhouse 03/18/2011 at 4:04 PM #

^Like – Don’t forget the local Raleigh feed, WTNY

I have resisted sharing any information I was getting, primarily because I had little confidence in it due to the things you mentioned, BJD. I felt very confident that we would hire 1 of 3 people over the weekend, but now I would not put money on it.

I’ll still stand by what I have been writing. The “A” list is 2-4 coaches (ones that I would consider “A” – though DY would most assuredly think that whomever she hires will be an “A” coach) and we will have a safe landing spot if those options are exhausted. This will still be a very good coach, mind you, but it might not be THE big name/sexy hire.

Being a State fan, however, one becomes accustomed to disappointment. A part of me, while wanting to believe some of the rumors, has always been a bit pessimistic (or is it…realistic??). I guess I’ll have to see it to believe it.

    Bruce Pearl?

  19. Wolfy__79 03/18/2011 at 8:39 PM #

i heard a pretty “sexy” rumor today in regards to our coach that until now seemed very unlikely.. after hearing it, it made alot of sense paired with DY’s statement.. kind of matching personalilties with hers. his name was one of the first that came to mind when she said that..

and no, it’s not pearl.. i do like the guy. he may be a likely candidate to replace this rumored guy however!!

Just saw the picture of BJD and his beverage. Whichever illustrious member of the author get-together is responsible, I say well played sir.

While we’d all love to have the inside scoop, I believe the fact that none of us have an idea what is going on is actually a very good thing.

  21. LRM 03/18/2011 at 8:47 PM #

Considering over the past decade we’ve all realized just how much those folks Fowler had allowed into the inner circle — the jock sniffers — cared more about their access than the program’s success, I think Yow is handling this perfectly: keep the politics, infighting and BS out of it and hire a winner to turn this thing around.

  22. eas 03/18/2011 at 9:12 PM #

I hope it isn’t Pearl. Not a bad coach by any means but has baggage. His personality may match with DY (he wouldn’t be even remotely concerned with coaching against the “blues”) but I do believe there are a good number of better options. He kind of reminds of slick willy Calipari. I am just not a big fan but hey if it works it works….

  23. bmamba101 03/18/2011 at 11:02 PM #

At this point any name that comes up would be considered as a DY ‘Savior!’ And you try to hire a good coach by offering him less money than he’s making? Makes great sense!

  24. PoppaJohn 03/19/2011 at 7:14 AM #

I heard a rumor it’s Gary Williams – all that talk about them disliking each other has been a smokescreen for their long term plan to get Gary to Raleigh.

Seriously, not Pearl. Let’s get a guy with a clean slate, please?

  25. NOT A FAN OF BLUE 03/19/2011 at 9:45 AM #

So basically AD Yow want us to pretend this is a coaching search “about nothing” …

Ummm Deb, wrong fan base – we’re the psycho, lunatic fringe
