State beats Clemson – now with 2 game ACC win streak

In a season that has not gone anywhere that was planned or expected, there have been many more downs than ups. However, tonight the Wolfpack men beat Clemson 69-61 to record their 4th ACC win of the year and have now won two straight conference games. CJ Leslie, Richard Howell, Tracy Smith, and Javier Gonzalez lead the Pack to a come from behind win. Leslie recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Smith added 14 points. Richard Howell almost had a double-double in addition with 9 points and 10 boards. Gonzalez added 11 points and 3 assists and played probably his best game of the year.

Smith afterwards discussed the thoughts of the team about the memories from the disappointment at Little John last month.

“I think the guys remembered that game,” Smith said. “They thought about it and they knew it wasn’t going to happen this game. So they went out and fought hard for 40 minutes. We took care of the ball, we rebounded and I thought our defense was pretty good.”

It was a good performance by the team, which played better defense and rebounded much better. The Pack tries for a three game win streak on Sunday when they travel to College Park, which has been a house of horrors lately for NCSU.

“Rick, real simple we will not get a great coach to come here we already tried that. You see Wake this year, next year with a new coach I see us the same way”

So even is we cannot get a “great” coach (which is nothing more than speculation on your part), an average coach would be better than Lowe.
You have still not explained why I can expect a worse coach that one who is last in the ACC.

“We will not get a great coach to come here we already tried that”?

Brilliant. Can’t argue with that logic. Were you on the debate team?

So I guess Sid shouldn’t try to win the ACC because he already tried that.

Lots of differences between now and 2006. The biggest in this case is the presence of Debbie Yow.

The logic for keeping Lowe seems to boil down to somewhere out there, there could possibly be an even worse coach, so we better hold on to what we have and be thankful we don’t have the absolute worst coach in the history of college basketball, just the worst one in the history of NC State.

As for the freshmen leaving if we upgrade at coach:

    a. Leslie may very well jump to the NBA anyway. If he doesn’t leave after one year it will almost certainly be after two years, so why would he want to transfer and sit out next year? He’s either gone to the NBA or sticking around for one final season.

    b. If Harrow and Brown want to transfer because they don’t want to play for a winner, then I guess we’ll have to find some kids who would like to play for a coach who can teach them some fundamentals. I seriously doubt either one of them would leave. What is the No. 1 reason kids transfer? Playing time. They will both see as many minutes as they can stand next year.

Anything short of an ACC title (a.k.a. a miracle) and it’s time to thank Sid for his contributions and find the right man to lead us back to the top of the conference.

There are no logicial reasons to keep Lowe, only misguided emotional ones.

“There are no logicial reasons to keep Lowe, only misguided emotional ones.”

No were there any logical reasons to hire him. This has worked out exactly as history has indicated that it likely would. Hiring Lowe was one of the most stupid moves of all time.

I hate it for him. He’s heart has been in this job, but there was no reason whatsoever to believe he’d be a good coach.

He’s proven to be a decent recruiter. However, he tends to get talented players who fall into the “misfit” category – and the teaching/development angle doesn’t help mitigate the shortcoming these talented players have to date. That’s why you have Tracy Smith going airborne on pump fakes as a senior.

Each year Sid has coached this talk about giving Sid another chance comes about this time of the season.
I saw enough early on to see that he was in over his head and he still has. His best year was his first and the more I look at it that success points to a healthy Astur not his coaching.
Has anyone seen any improvment in 5 years?

there’s been some improvement… but i would compare it to improving your technique to tread water not swim.

the best coaches in the ACC right now would be: k, gary, roy, and seth. seth naturally being the worst of those.. there are a few up and coming coaches like bc’s and clempson…uva… but it will take time to know if they can consistently beat duke. coach k owns the acc.. roy has done well but coach k is his daddy. i see k sticking around for a while and continuing to dominate the league.

moving forward the nc state coach must be able to beat these coaches.. noting that duke will definetly be the barometer for success for me.

i don’t think nc state alum/fans shouldn’t in any way fear a coaching search. dy’s goal for the athletic’s to compete and be ranked atop the college ranks is not a bad approach! there are good coaches out there, just no reason to think we cannot find a good one. if it’s big names and big names only kind of search.. then we have already failed. that just adds to speculation and takes away from a coach to fit in and grow with an organization.. and face it, there’s alot of growth oppurtunity in raleigh.

keep rooting for sidney & co.. but also try not to buy into what the media will be selling in coming weeks. leslie isn’t the only player that is an nba early entry guy. lozo would be ready to jump at the first bite.. harrow is more likely the guy to be in college for four years. these aren’t bad kids! they handle themselves fairly well, especially considering the circumstances. but if they do leave, it will not be the end of the world… it’s more about the coach and the type of players he builds.. i.e. coach knight -> coach k … just an easy example. have faith in the pieces already in play, mainly being yow and woodson

ntm wood, cjw, painter, howell… the talent is there to stay… i’d put these guys in my starting lineup anyday!! just saying… don’t give the freshman all the hype.. sid’s just trying to save his tale…

and myself along with alot of other alumni still would like to see it work.. but as vawold stated earlier is more of a misguided emotional desire than a scientific fact…
