    “What is Sid’s ACC record?”

    22-51 (.301)

Oh, and if you can stomach to look at the conference standings, we sit in sole possession of 11th place with Wake just a game back in the win column.

When Sidney Lowe was hired deep down we all knew what was going to happen. We knew his NBA record as a head coach and knew he was unproven as a college coach. Heck, he even had to finish his degree before he could take the job. But, we were ever hopeful because he was one of our own.
But, as State fans we also had great hope because for the last 20+ years that is all we have had. Now it’s time for Sidney to move on and bring that great hope of a new coach back. Maybe, just maybe, this will be out time.
I am more hopeful than in the past due to Debbie Yow. I am thinking that she might just be able to pull this thing off in smart fashion.
Great thing about being a State alumnus and fan it gives you thick skin and hope for the future.
Devils advocate side of this is that people start walking away for LTR basketball seats and the money dries up for basketball if we don’t get it right this time.

The team isn’t playing like one, and the coach isn’t acting like one, either. Finger-whistling and arm-waiving isn’t going to solve your coaching woes, Sid! Towel off the dome piece and let’s get to work!

So does anybody know where I can send my suggestion for a future coach, in Randy Bennett? And anyone who is impressed with his credentials should do the same. Please let me know how to send this to Debbie Yow, AD. The announcers for the game last night with St. Mary’s/Loyola Marymount, stated anyone looking for a coach in the spring should take a serious look at Bennett.

What happened to the red blazer yesterday?

  6. fullmoon1 02/06/2011 at 11:34 AM #

Hickson and Leslie make a real good case for not going after an aspiring one and doner. I never would have pegged him as one to give up but sheesh. If he wasn’t suspended I would sit him out for acting like a diva.

If you email her, she will write you back. Her and I exchanged three emails during yesterdays game. I’m an average fan, no one special ($). That is impressive.

However, she did jump on me for suggesting a coaching change.

State1998: How did she jump on you about a coaching change? Just curious.

I expect her as a quality AD to defend any of the coaching staff ( anything else would be not be professional) but I still wonder how she addressed a coaching change?

There is no personal hatred of Sidney, I was truly happy when “one of our own” was hired although I new his record in the NBA was not good and he had no college head coaching experience (and relieved that someone ended the embarrassing search). Like many have said here, we have been so bad for so long that hope is about the only thing we have.

As late as the first half against Clemson I though maybe we have it together and could start to put on a run and salvage things, but the results were the same.

Many of us have been put in a position in business in which we excel in one position but are not able to duplicate that at the next level or different position. There is no shame in that, you try your best, but if you best is not good enough you have to accept it and move on…

I will always like Sidney, Chuck and Les, they tried their best but things did not work out…..sometimes that is what life brings.

I will post the entire exchange tomorrow, can’t right now.

But she used all caps to say tha Sid is our coach.

She is in charge, after I said that “she’s the boss”
    she said “yes I am”

she said that it is “bush league” to fire a coach during the season.

I will post “transcript” of the riviting exchange later today or tomorrow.

Anyone interested in watching the undersized women’s team hang with the big teams, should tune to fox south Sunday, at noon.

We are a great team. I figure that we will make it to the sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament. I predict a 14-2 record in the conference. I loved this year beating those Heels at their place and holding Barnes to 4 points and 4 fouls. Roy just kept saying “DAG GUMMITT” .Things could not be better. I can’t wait til the ACC Tournament where we won’t have to play the first round and likely face Duke or UNC in the final. How great it is and how well our team is playing like a team.

    GOTTA go

I don’t think we should hire Randy Bennett just for the fact that he looks too much like Herb Sendek. They look like brothers and seeing him on the sideline could create hallucinations and flashbacks.

  15. eas 02/06/2011 at 8:10 PM #

Maybe he could wear a wig to change his resemblance. A Mullet would be great.

If Wake can fend off Miami at home on Wednesday, they have the opportunity to blow past us into 11th place next Sunday. We all have our thoughts pretty well set, but wouldn’t it just beat all if we laid an egg at the lowly Deacs coming off a bye week?

  17. Mike 02/06/2011 at 9:42 PM #

Statefan1998, I would suggest please not posting the email chain out of courtesy for DY. Yes, she is a public figure, and yes, she is a representatie of our university, but I just think it is in bad taste to publish your email exchange with her.

  18. tuckerdorm1983 02/06/2011 at 9:45 PM #

don’t fret so much fellows. It will all be over Thurs March the 10th probably about 4:30 in the afternoon, but definitely but late that night.

“Statefan1998, I would suggest please not posting the email chain out of courtesy for DY.”

@Mike, you beat me to it. I was going to suggest the same thing. I’m sure she wouldn’t have said anything that she would not have wanted repeated, but for some reason it just seems to me that it would be somewhat disrespectful to post it publicly nonetheless.

Just the fact that she made herself available to exchange email with a fan (without much delay from the sound of it) –especially during a game no less and not to mention THREE different emails– well that just impresses the hell out of me quite frankly.

If it was her predecessor then it would be a moot point. Anyone who represents an institution of higher learning, yet goes on a radio show and publicly discusses his favorite cougars….? Well, let’s just say HE lost everyone’s respect years ago.

As far as her jumping on a Statefan1998 for suggesting a coaching change, without addressing/asking how she “jumped on” him….

I would say that her appropriate response would be to say one or all of the following: 1) Now is not the time, 2) Sid is the coach, 3) Please support Sid and the team, 4) Program will be evaluated after the season, and then 5) Appropriate changes, if any, will be taken then and only then.

I mean, what else can she say?

  20. Rochester 02/07/2011 at 8:39 AM #

As bad as things are, there is nothing to be gained by changing coaches at this point. With just five weeks left until we get flushed out of the ACC Tournament, there’s not much time for a new coach to do anything. And if the interim coach came off our bench, who there inspires anyone to think anything would improve? They’re all just as responsible for this mess as Sid. Considering our No. 1 complaint is none of our players have been properly coached up, I can’t see how any of the non-coaches on staff would change that.

Debbie Yow is right in passing on a midseason coaching change. All it would do at this point is make our program look even worse. If we’re not going to make headlines for winning anything at least we don’t need to make them for a pointless in-season personnel move. Now is not the time for firing and chaos. Now is the time for research and networking to find the right man to lead us out of this mess.

  21. Statefan1998 02/07/2011 at 9:08 AM #

Will not post email chain. It is however, impressive to exchange 3 emails through the course of the game.

  22. wolfpacker 90 02/07/2011 at 10:58 AM #

I agree,a mid season change would be bad, but what can be done, i guess we have to wait five more weeks of suffering and hopefully a change in coaches and staff and a hiring of a solid, college experienced coach.

Time to suck it up as fans until the end of the season.

Thankfully Luke Cothron decommitted because had he signed and come to school he makes Leslie look like “Rudy”. Maybe they will get back on track.

  25. VaWolf82 02/07/2011 at 11:34 AM #

I had forgotten all about Luke. Don’t know if this is the latest with him or not:

    Power forward Luke Cothron is expected to enroll at the University of Massachusetts, with plans to become eligible for men’s basketball in 2011-12…UMass and the Atlantic 10 accepts ineligible freshman players as non-scholarship students;

    EDIT
A weird story gets weirder. Luke transfered to New Orleans and may transfer again next year:
