NC State 72 Miami 70

It could have been the ultimate disaster after losing 17 point lead at home on the day of the celebration for 100 Years of NC State Basketball.

Thank God it wasn’t.

I’m glad that Lowe’s family has finally decided to register accounts, it makes the discussions much more balanced.

I viewed today’s game as a battle of the celler dwellers.

The small number of posts after a win suggests that there are alot of people that agree with you.

Watched the women play Duke, who is undefeated, and 3 in the country. We blew it, with an 20 point lead, but considering our record, I was quite proud of the team, and hate they blew it in the end, but thank you for finally giving me a State basketball game I could get emotional, and vocal watching. Keep up the good work Coach Harper, and thanks for what you bring to the basketball program.

JeremyH. We would know where to find you if you were in the ocean….down there bottomfeeding. So easy to bring the hammer out just because things are not just as you like them. If we are going to give Herb 10 years, I would think SL deserves 2 more to see if he can make this work.

    mak4dpak,

I find it incredibly amusing when fans suggest that watching an NC State team lose is more appealing than watching an NC State win. Again, Sid should be evaluated at the end of the year and I will support Yow’s decision, either way. She clearly knows more about this type of thing than I do – probably you as well (I despise irrational assumptions, but in this case I will make the leap).

I can’t argue with you, for obvious reasons…but what would your reaction have been if Lowe blew an 18 point lead at half?

I love what Coach Harper is bringing to the ladies program – but our kids played hard today for the Men’s program as well. This isn’t last years NC State team (or any of the previous four years). I hope you will consider conducting a full review of the Men’s program at the end of the year, rather than right now, just as our accomplished AD has chosen to do. If you have the means, come to a game. If you have come to a game already, or multiple games, thanks for supporting the university.

For what it’s worth, I hope more people come out to support the women as well. I know they could use some help in the attendance department.

aw shucks, now I’m blushin’. Let’s make it 3.

  7. mak4dpak 01/23/2011 at 10:57 PM #

Okay we showed poor judgement allowing Herb 10 years of the boring Princeton Style offense, and thankfully he chose to leave, with the same results at ASU. Debbie Yow is the AD now, and I trust her judgement much more than ole Jed. If Sid doesn’t turn things around, he is gone. But I am sure he will have no problem being an assistant in the NBA, the league known for no defense.

There are always far fewer posts after a win than a loss. On this board and any other board, in any sport.

People like to bitch and critique more than they like to post “good game” or some variant thereof.

  9. mak4dpak 01/23/2011 at 11:05 PM #

Considering the opponents, packfan 03, I hardly see the comparison. Duke the only undefeated women’s team in Division I, and Miami with a record that was the same as the men’s team, until today of course. I hate to see what happens when we return to playing the quality teams in the conference. Go Wolfpack women! I was quite proud of you today. When the men can learn to do the same, I will have no problem showing my pride in your accomplishments, and will be glad to express it on here, and do.

    That’s a fact.

Again like to remind the keeper of this site, that the clock time is incorrect. Go Pack!

I wasn’t making a comparison – just an observation. I’m proud of the women as well, and am incredibly touched that you support them as much as you do. Sadly, women’s teams aren’t given the same attention as men’s teams. This of course is the case nearly everywhere, not just State.

I merely suggested you give the men’s team a chance to earn your support from here on out. Your resigned tone seemed to suggest that you may not be open to this idea. Different strokes for different folks, I believe is the saying.

You can support the basketball team without supporting Lowe. All trust in Yow, she’ll make the right decision regardless of your support.

Not to go all Purcell on you, but you could even donate money to the university with a note implying that your financial considerations are tied to next year’s bball coach search committee…

  13. Wolfy__79 01/23/2011 at 11:32 PM #

well i for one come to this site to not only throw a few of my cents in but to also hear what some others think about what’s going on! i’m pretty optimistic about the state of nc state on the whole. sure i’d like to not bother with the back & forth with bball but we don’t have that consistent winner to do so. if sid was winning or had won on a regualar basis then none of this discussion would be relevant.. or to most atleast. the only reason people disect our stats is b/c we aren’t winning… well again most of us. its so easy to look at other coaching hires and compare b/c alot of times there’s instant success. uva is a pretty good example… but i’m not so easily sold. unlike football, it shouldn’t take long at all for a college hc to get a turnaround. i don’t really think that these are normal circumstances however, despite not winning for oh so long nc state fans still hold ourselves as a basketball school b/c of our great history.. so i think when you’re dealing with such a temperment, it’s a little different. alot of our fan’s disdain for the present is the fact that we hung onto a loser for so long.. well, that’s harsh but as a head coach hwsnbn is a loser. not only by results but by his approach. i think sidney has fallen right into the same line as when hwsnbn left off.

the fact is SL needs to win.. not only for the team, but for himself. it’s the fifth year and he’s still tinkering with lineups and what works. there are alot of +’s i can point out for sidney lowe, the only number he or we should care about right now of course are w’s. this is a BIG week for not only this year but next. right now we are in reaching distance of making a year of it… i can’t hardly wait for clemson tuesday.

  14. mak4dpak 01/23/2011 at 11:36 PM #

My financial considerations are paid to NC State Athletics, not Sid. As for the team, I do not pull against them when they play, but seem to see the same results over the last 5 years, when we play quality opponents, with perhaps a few upsets here and there. If Sid can prove he can coach a winner, and be a winner, then so be it. But I have yet to see it, and I have no doubt that anything will be done either way, until BB is over for the season.

  15. Wolfy__79 01/23/2011 at 11:50 PM #

nor should it be.. we should be better than that as to ask for sidney lowe to resign!

““Those of us that know the game can see improvement being made, and the frosh coming into their own”

Question for all of you out there… How many people in the public arena, or in your own circle of acquaintances, personal and/or professional, whose opinions and judgment have earned your respect, actually go around proclaiming their superior knowledge and judgment?

Second question. Of all the people you know and/or are of an acquaintance, who go around publicly proclaiming their superior knowledge and understanding of a particular subject or area of study, actually have neither?

    =========================================================
    Just stating a fact, foose.

Your acceptance of it hardly changes its reality.

I’ve forgotten more than most on this particular site have ever learned…. I’ve been reading this board for a few years, and can assure you, there’s very little in the way of “basketball knowledge” spoken here. Having said that… a few of the writers/admins for the site do have a fairly deep knowledge of the game, and I admire what they write…. or I wouldn’t be here (as others have stated, there are clearly less negative boards out there).

Accept that anyway you want to, or don’t… It hardly matters to me.

The only person that will make a decision on our coach’s future (at least publicly) has already given the word that nothing will happen until the season has ended, and rightfully so… I’ll pass my judgement when the entire body of work has been completed. Sid should consider (and possibly someone from Yow’s office might offer this suggestion) bringing in a strong defensive minded asst. coach (tell Strickland or Towe they need to look for work) to offset his thorough understanding of exploiting weaknesses on offense, but as a recruiter, and offensive coach… Sid’s got it figured out. And, it’s a vast improvement from his predecessor. Sid also needs to do some more “team building” exercises like he did yesterday with the gravesite visits. Putting one together this off-season like TOB did for the football team would be a good move as well, since the majority of this team will be back next year.

But hey… I haven’t a clue as to what I’m talking about… just ask foose.

GO PACK and We’re pulling for you Sid!!!

“If we are going to give Herb 10 years, I would think SL deserves 2 more to see if he can make this work.”

There is absolutely no logic embedded in that statement.

  18. Tampa-Pack 01/24/2011 at 7:50 AM #

Man reading these comments I am convinced that some people have really lost their reasoning abilities, will blindly support NC State no matter what, and/or they are trolls. Before the season everyone agreed NCAA or bust. Now some are suggesting one (and even two) more years because we beat Miami after nearly blowing a what 17 point second half lead?? A team we were picked to finish over in the pre-season rankings, and a team we are (or should be) vastly more talented than. As pointed out, we still have no quality wins in or out of conference. We have a talented roster that arguably with better coach could have only 1 or 2 losses right now, and should easily finish 2nd in this years ACC. Of course I guess if we give him 10 years, maybe things will somehow click for a season or two and we might actually finish in the top half of the conference.

We all love Sid for his history, but take the blinders off and look at his record. Doesn’t matter who is coaching, these results should not, and are not acceptable. Thank goodness we finally have leadership in place that can see this.

  19. tuckerdorm1983 01/24/2011 at 8:19 AM #

how many road wins in the ACC has sid won since he has been at NCSU? I heard something less than 5. Is that true?

  20. swamppack 01/24/2011 at 8:49 AM #

You “positive” posters valiantly choose not to “bash” Sid as you call it so you come on this sight and bash everybody who has a different point of view than you have. Now that’s funny.

  21. swamppack 01/24/2011 at 8:51 AM #

    It’s a grand total of 6 so far tuckerdorm1983.

  22. mak4dpak 01/24/2011 at 8:55 AM #

I am sure after playing in the ACC, the players have shown improvement, only problem is the results are the same, as for my judgement of Lowe, I will continue to exercise that right, even if I am not a coach. And trust that everyone else will do the same regardless of how you feel about Sid. You don’t need a degree to do that.

  23. Rick 01/24/2011 at 10:13 AM #

“Where I will differ from some here is that, if I were making the decision, I would not make the NCAA Tournament an absolute requirement for Lowe to come back.”

I agree. I would not keep him if he squeaks into the tournament.

  24. TOB4PREZ 01/24/2011 at 10:40 AM #

the U was a top 50 RPI team…. It is what it is, the Pack took care of business and continued to show improvement. Turnover to asst ratio continues to improve, that’s 3 out of 4 games with 10 or less turnovers. Javy has found a warm, comfortable spot on the bench and the future of the Pack (RH) has been handed the keys. Sid has til the season’s ended to show that he can indeed show an improvement (year over year) and garner that last remaining year on his contract, that is merely fact… so, what self-respecting Pack fan would wish for his demise between now and then???

I have a ton of self respect, and can assure that I would love to see the Pack win 9 more ACC games and make the dance… and that desire has me in the vast MAJORITY.

    Believe it…. or not.

  25. bradleyb123 01/24/2011 at 11:21 AM #

I’m not defending Sidney. I still think he will fall short of doing what he needs to do to keep his job another year.

But maybe we COULD be a little more upbeat about this win. Yes, we blew a 17 point lead. And yes, I believe that’s more Sidney’s fault than our players’ fault. I think we blew it due to bench players being inserted in the game and being left in the game for far too long.

But it was still a gutty win. We could have hung our heads low when a 17 point lead was cut to ONE POINT with roughly five minutes left in the game. We didn’t. We hung in there, and found a way to get it done.

I’m not really happy with Sidney, but I do think we should give him SOME credit for this win. Credit where credit is due. In the end, it was a win.
