Let your post game meltdowns fly

As @OntheDunk said on Twitter in the closing minute of the game “LOL. UNC scrubs up 2 on our regulars and took 1 more charge than State has all season.”

TEN GAMES LEFT ON THE SIDNEY LOWE COUNTDOWN CLOCK

I’ll bet we win 4 and end at 16-14. No NCAA, No NIT, no more excuses.

“They aren’t plaing poorly because of the fans…that is something I will never believe.”

Big Ole +1 on that. If anything that would give the players motivation to show them they are wrong. When the players play poorly it is because: THE Coach either doesn’t demand the best effort OR doesn’t know how to get the best effort out of the players, OR THE players aren’t as good as they were thought to be OR they are head cases and don’t care enough or take enough pride to give their best effort.

Anyone saying the players are going to lay down because of a few internet fans is living in a fantasy world. The players aren’t going to give up on a National Champioship or the NBA and their dream because of a few loud mouth fans. There will always be much more to it than that.

Wake me up when the season is over. Anticipation for a new coach on the sidelines, and my return to the RBC. YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”

I request the same wake-up call. Should we set the clock for late March/early April? Sounds like a good time to come back.

Lo Brown is my favorite player. He has true grit. Its like they woke the beast and all teams going forward better watch out for Mr. Lo Brown. I bet he gets 20 plus points against VT. Everybody is talking about Barnes. To Hell with Barnes. You boys keep yucking it up over in Chapel Hill. You piss us off enough and we might actually decide to play for a change.

Anyone shocked or disappointed with the outcome has not been paying attention.

I feel for those who have sunk money/time into season tickets. I guess you feel obligated to go. I quit wasting my time watching the games. I anticipate 1-2 more wins and finish the season with NO post season. I’ll just get the results after the fact. And for anyone worried about who we are gonna get, I don’t see anyone out there who could be much of a downgrade.

–“I’ll bet we win 4 and end at 16-14. No NCAA, No NIT, no more excuses.”

I’ll be amazed if we win four more games. Looking at the schedule I don’t see four more wins on there, but one never knows.

As far as meltdowns, none here. Yesterday was nothing that wasn’t expected at this point. What on Earth would I have to melt down about?

Truthfully, I barely even watched yesterday. I had it turned on, but by the time ESPN switched over to our game, we were already down 11. I turned the volume down and did other things. I looked up occasionally, but as far as I saw, we never got closer than that initial 11 we pretty much spotted them.

I was so NON-emotional that I didn’t even bother to come here until now, nearly a full day later.

As far as I’m concerned, college athletics is over until September. The only things that will interest me more than just passing interest are if (when) the coaching staff is replaced, and perhaps the final four, though I’m not sure how much interest I’ll have there.

Then, on to the great black hole of summer until football gets going. What is that….six months? Seven?

    Sigh.

To call this a “breakout” game for Barnes is really not ligitimate.

A real BOG comes against a quality team and shows that the player is ready to roll with the big boys.

State is not a berometer for any thing this year except failure when it comes to on-the-court performance.

Ive seen this movie before- The Phantom Talent

  9. DiscoStu65 01/30/2011 at 7:11 PM #

CJL played the laziest basketball I’ve ever seen anyone play yesterday. I can’t believed Harrow didn’t even try to play.

At this point play the kids with heart, Brown, Howell, CJ Williams, Javi (as much as I hate to say that) and Wood and let everyone else ride pine. If we’re going to suck AGAIN, I’d rather it be with the folks who act like they care.

Also, we don’t have a single “coach” on the staff. We’ve got a parade of former players who just can’t get it done.

It really is a shame that all of our basketball highlights are in black and white. 30 years of abysmal basketball with one flash in the pan (the Hodge years)

  10. nocard 01/30/2011 at 7:32 PM #

Sid…how can you play slackers.? you would be in a much better position with all of us if you would bench a nonhustler and put in Monte. He may be 50+ but he would at least have left it all out there. What do you think your fellow ex-players are saying. Guys like Corch, TBurleson, Thurl, TomGuges, etc…. must have their face in their hands.

  11. Wolfy__79 01/30/2011 at 8:49 PM #

@ Wolfy 79… Don’t bitch about Javi, he played hard. ?

Javi continues in his 4th season to disappoint me. his lapses in judgement, constantly shrinking from playing point guard only to jack up crazy shots, he intentionally elbowed a player in the face yesterday.. body slammed someone last year because he had continually gotten beat that game. yes, that’s exactly what i want to see from a senior point guard.

  12. Wolfy__79 01/30/2011 at 8:52 PM #

in a REAL offense, less than half of scott wood’s shots would come from screens. jj reddick eventually to that point. his talent is not being developed to create his own shot!

  13. wolfpack4ever 01/30/2011 at 9:27 PM #

This coaching staff can not develop talent. At this point, I do not know if we can beat Wake Forest again to stay out of the cellar. (sigh)

So, I went to the Hoops for Hope game today at Reynolds…a 7 point loss for the Wolfpack, but on the way home, I was realized something…

After watching the men’s team lose, my first thought is: geez, this is only going to get worse, but after watching the women’s team lose, my first thought is: these girls are only going to get better.

    It’s all about the coaching.

“I stress to people to think big, actually expect big, on this next hire.”

We did this last time – remember. Of course, Fowler was in charge of the search so I am not sure NC State was appropriately marketed to the potential coaches. But regardless of Fowler’s screw ups, it is going to be difficult to recruit a big time coach with Mike and Roy just miles away. Just think about the big names, Rick Barnes, Jay Wright, John Callipari, etc. Why in the world would they leave their institutions and come to NC State? We ARE going to have to get an up and coming coach – not a brand name. We recruited a coach like this in 1980 and it resulted in a national championship. Duke did the same thing in the 80’s and we know how that turned out. To find this type of coach will take some astute basketball knowledge and some luck. I wish Debbie the best as this decision will define her legacy at NC State.

@ Wolfy 79… I can’t argue that Javi makes stupid frustration plays sometimes but he tries his best. Should he be getting playing time as a senior for a D1 school probably not. He’s a scrappy player and unfortunately we don’t seem to have too many outside of him on our basketball team. I couldn’t agree more with you about Scott Wood needing more screens for him… sadly, no one seems to ever set an off ball screen for him. We really need someone else on the team to be a threat from deep that would take the pressure off Scott and create more looks for him.

  17. Prowling Woofie 01/31/2011 at 9:21 AM #

We need a coach. Even just one would help. We have none on our bench – none.

Coach K has a whole series of instructional DVD’s available online that cover coaching every aspect of the game. Buy the series and ask TOB to use them and take over as interim coach for the next month. I’ll bet we improve.

Wolfpack Basketball is like Gilligan’s Island.
We have a bunch of like-able entertaining characters. The episodes have a huge following and are often entertaining. But we always find a way to botch the rescue. No matter how good it looks. You know in the end we AIN’T GETTING OFF THE ISLAND.

Come on Debbie Yow, here’s your chance at Wolfpack immortality. Get us off the island.
    PULEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAASE.

I prefer Javi’s justified frustration over the indifference the other players seem to embrace. You have to admit the elbow was amplified by an oscar winning performance on the unc players part. Javi went to line on that play also due to the ” frustration” displayed by the other player. Bench the divas.

  20. 61Packer 01/31/2011 at 1:55 PM #

    Bench Javi.

Hooray! Dave Glenn is finally splainin’ to the hard-headed portion of his audience why 40 years of very good NCSU bball (“better than UNC and Duke”) qualifies for more than “periods of success”.

Merely “Periods of success” is how the NCSU bball program was scornfully described a few days ago by a national sports show ignoramus. He went on to suggest (surprise, surprise) that we should have been delighted with Sendek (i.e. approximate average 6th place in the acc).

I don’t know if I’ve ever heard 99.9 shows point this out so well. But I don’t have it on every day, even though i must have heard hundreds of hours of their shows for years. I love the show, but it seems like their personalities let ignorant, easily refuted statements, slide.

Listen to the show and, maybe call in if you think you would be a credit to your Pack.

I called in a few years ago to point out that the old A.E. Finley fieldhouse wasn’t “Carter Finley” without some of the crucial letters, which appeared to have fallen off. Adam Gold didn’t believe me, and more or less hung up on me and suggested I was lacking intelligence. Other callers helped AG understand. Remember that the old fieldhouse name plate was missing a letter or two for years? And the sound system was absolutely awful? Embarrassing sloppiness during that period, even if the turf was some of the best in the country.

So, some of those guys don’t listen very well and can be rude to call-ins sometimes. But all-in-all, they’re a VERY good and successful radio show for someone like me, who loves ACC sports, NCSU in particular.

  22. mak4dpak 01/31/2011 at 8:24 PM #

I have resorted to finding more enjoyment in watching the undersized NC State women’s basketball team. The girls play with the big teams, in the country, and have just barely come up short, but continue to show improvement, and with some taller players who knows what will happen. They have a coach. Go Kelly Harper! Do you know any great men’s coaches, Kelly. We need one.

  23. Wolfman 9806 01/31/2011 at 10:17 PM #

We truly are the Washington Generals of the ACC. At least this game will be remembered as Harrison Barnes coming out party. Look at it this way, if he goes on to NBA greatness, we can always say that we helped him figure it out.
