Let your post game meltdowns fly

As @OntheDunk said on Twitter in the closing minute of the game “LOL. UNC scrubs up 2 on our regulars and took 1 more charge than State has all season.”

First half: Pretty good D. Can’t hit shots. EXCESSIVELY POOR rebounding which ultimately cost us a chance to win because effective put-backs could have countered the poor overall shooting.

Second half: Proved we could play with them IF we play a complete game. Where’s harrow! Vandy could have possibly countered Hanson, especially with TS in foul trouble and Vandy’s blocking ability and D. D less impressive than first half although several made long shots were adequately contested.

Overall: CJL played a much smarter game than he’s been playing lately except he needs to learn he’s not a 3-point shooter. Team’s potential showed up more than once. Coaching capability showed horribly re: rebounding, at ceiling at best, micromanaging upsets rhythm. Biggest obvious overall difference between the two teams was bench strength.

Meltdown? That’s been a 5-year slow-cook which leaves me indifferent by now.

Compassion is my word – I feel for the group of quality players we have who sadly lack the sort of leadership that could make them successful.

What’s the point in melting down?

I was honestly more upset after the Clemson meltdown. At least in that game, we blew one we should have won. I didn’t expect us to win today. And we learned within the span of about 30 seconds how it was going to end. The only unknown was the final score.

This is what 20+ years of horrible basketball has done to me. I’m numb. I’m indifferent to it now. I’m just glad football is looking good. I like football better than basketball anyway. At this point, I find myself just wishing we would stop HUMILIATING ourselves on the basketball court.

Old13: I didn’t see much about CJL’s game to be excited about at all.

As to the Sendek/Lowe comparison, the absolute worst thing about this idiocy is that our younger fans are biting hook, line, and sinker. It’s depressing.

Biggest difference in the game was the fact that they wanted the damn game more than we did! No sugar coating this one, but if Coach can’t get the team up to play against the Heels, its over! Come on, they killed us on the boards from the get go and closed with nothing but scrub cheerleaders the last two minutes. How embarassing. And how many more TV announcers are going to call us out on live TV for ‘standing around watching the guy with the ball’ on offense and ‘sleep walking’ on defense.

This had to be the final straw.

I was actually encouraged by the game. Lo Brown was something and if he plays like that we are going to win some games. We have not seen a player of that caliber fielded for the wolfpack in many years. CJ Leslie is playing a pro-game. He thinks he is Lebron. He has been playing too much NBA 2000 on his WiFi (if it is in the game its in the game). That must change.

    Glad I missed it.
One more nail in the coffin. If he wins, there is a decision to be made at the end of the season. If he continues this streak of mediocrity, there’s no decision. Sid is done. What we are watching is the equivalent of a lame duck presidency. Nothing more will get done this year.

  8. ADVENTUROO 01/29/2011 at 6:10 PM #

Harrow was out due to a terrible cold….not the flu. We had flashes of brilliance, only to end up looking bush league.

Sid’s only salvation would be to fire Pete and Monte….but I’m not gonna bet on him in the red blazer next year.

The “team” meeting didn’t do anything but let a few guys get some things off their chest. They played miserably….

Leslie looked like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hide. He had flashes of being a really big time player…..and then just a ball hog.

It is truly difficult to get a team going when you start a 2nd string point guard who really never wanted to be a point guard.

Javi did look a little frustrated (ref to ELBOW) and behaved like a PR street fighter.

    Brown came on strong.

    Tracy was virtually shut down.

Not going to be pretty….but I WILL be at the VT game.

I honestly think Sid and the players know the gig is up. I just hope we get two more wins this season. If we lose to Wake I think there will be a bigger meltdown response.

  10. LKNpackfan 01/29/2011 at 6:16 PM #

Lost by 20. Imagine I’d we’d actually played a good team.

  11. Wolfpack_1995 01/29/2011 at 6:25 PM #

I know Yow has to be assessing this progress and can see there is none. I don’t care if we magically finish out the year. There should be no doubt that Sid cannot get it done.

    Let’s move on.

Instead of a death spiral I feel like we are experiencing a long slow death of a beloved friend. Sid will always be State through and through but he is not getting it done just like Amato.

  12. Pack Mentality 01/29/2011 at 6:25 PM #

I’d rather see Lowe fired and have all the players walk out in protest than see him as the coach for one more game. When will the next Facebook post by Harrow come out?

  13. Wulfpack 01/29/2011 at 6:28 PM #

“I didn’t see much about CJL’s game to be excited about at all.”

Ditto. His defense is putrid. His rebounding soft. And his shot selection leaves a lot to be desired. His body language just gives off the “I don’t give a damn, it’s not my fault” persona.

  14. bigwolfpacker 01/29/2011 at 6:32 PM #

Way to go out strong Tracy Smith. No effort at all lately. What a joke we have become.

  15. tjfoose1 01/29/2011 at 6:36 PM #

Meltdown? Why should there be a meltdown? Is anyone out there really surprised by the outcome?

Anyone so affected as to approach a meltdown due to today’s performance has bigger areas of concern than NC State basketball.

  16. project29 01/29/2011 at 6:38 PM #

Enough of this feel good experiment. Let’s demand competence please.

  17. turnoffthetv 01/29/2011 at 6:39 PM #

I have become so numb to losses against mediocre or worse teams. The game was over in the first few minutes against a mediocre unc squad. Over the course of this season i have seen very few high percentage shots that we take. Brown had a decent game but most of his shots were highly contested but somehow they went in. Geez what tha? Gosh i just lost my thoughts!

  18. tjfoose1 01/29/2011 at 6:40 PM #

Glad to see everyone coming around to what was obvious after the WI game, even earlier to others out there.

  19. Tampa-Pack 01/29/2011 at 6:41 PM #

I haven’t read every post yet, and I’m not trying to pile on Sid anymore, but how can this group of talented players play so badly? Seriously, even with the worst coach, can’t they overcome the coaching deficiencies – or does that only work against the +200 rpi teams? Serious question…

  20. nuclearwolf07 01/29/2011 at 6:45 PM #

Loved how the UNC students were chanting “Not our rivals” with 3 or so minutes left in the game. Almost like football doesn’t even count…..

Being a ‘young’ State fan, I haven’t succumbed to drinking the Sendek Kool-Aid and I refuse to thrown in with that lot. After blowing 20 point leads and not breaking out of the Princeton style offense, I felt Herb should have been fired and not had the chance to run away into the desert….. but I digress.

I appreciate what Sid has done for this school, and I would love to keep him on the staff for recruiting, but we need someone with a little intensity to try and make anything out of the lazy bunch of players I’ve seen on the court so far this season. And I don’t care how highly rated a freshman is on paper; if he’s not going to play wholeheartedly, he doesn’t need to be on the court. Same goes for any player for that matter.

In other news, Wake wins their first ACC game…

  21. bradleyb123 01/29/2011 at 6:48 PM #

Harrow didn’t play. That doesn’t say EVERYTHING, but it does say a lot.

I really thought these two teams were pretty evenly matched going into this game. Carolina really isn’t that great. We’re much better with Harrow in the lineup, and he didn’t play a minute.

I’m not excusing the loss. But this makes it a little easier to accept.

  22. project29 01/29/2011 at 6:52 PM #

Yeah, it sucks that Harrow sprained his vagina. He’ll be whining about this comment on Facebook next. What a self-entitled pussy.

  23. jafrazie 01/29/2011 at 7:05 PM #

Embarrassing! Humiliating! AWFUL! Fire the Coach and the Staff now. You HAVE to.

  24. Lunatic Fringe 01/29/2011 at 7:14 PM #

Tampa – The team is talented, but you have got to have someone to mesh those talents together. A lot of these guys were the “go to” guys on their high school teams so it takes a good coach to direct them to play unselfish & controlled team basketball.

In order to do so, there has to be rules, boundaries, and expectations…those do not appear to be in place. The fact that CJL, who is 3-13 from 3pt land, is allowed to continue to shoot 3 pointers is a clear example of lack of control by the coaches.

Sid has not clearly established a consistent game plan, rotation, or roles for the team, but that is something that should have been done a LONG time ago.

Where’s TOB4Prez? I need someone who knows basketball to explain how we’re doing great because I just see a train wreck.

I sent my politely worded e-mail to Ms. Yow this afternoon asking for a new coach. The more alums she hears from the fewer reservations she’ll have when the time comes.
