Duke @ desperate NC State preview

Will NC State be “the same old Wolfpack”?

Same old Wolfpack: After starting the ACC schedule at 1-0 for the first time under Sidney Lowe, N.C. State has fallen back into a familiar old pattern by starting slow, playing soft on defense, turning the ball over and shooting poorly on offense while coming up small in consecutive road losses at Boston College and Florida State.

The following video is pretty good. Love the comments about NC State’s problems being between the ears with a lack of leadership. And, “Giving up 80 points to the Seminoles is like giving up a 130 points to a Duke…Florida State doesn’t score.”

Totally agree w/ Brad_123 – the outcome of tonight’s game should not change the fact that Sid should be replaced.

Read Coach K’s comments about the game. What he DIDN’T say is anything about strategy or preparation. That’s because there isn’t a lot to talk about.

Since Duke does not have the quickest backcourt in the ACC, I would like to see Brown at point with Wood at the shooting guard. Of course I would enjoy it if the same line-up stays in the game for more than 3 minutes at a time.

I’ve read a couple people here saying things like “I hope we lose tonight” and other things along that line, basically saying that it will prolong the Lowe regime. Let’s just let that go for now and hope to God our players (maybe even our coaches) can find some kahunas tonight and play with a little fire and passion.

I’m with almost all of you in sharing the feeling that it’s looking pretty damn certain that we need new coaches, but this is Dook tonight. I’ve heard enough sentiments about not wanting us to win tonight. Beating Dook did not save Sid’s job last year, a top 5 recruiting class did. Beating them again this year will not save his job if we suck and don’t turn it around this year.

I’m as frustrated as every one of you, but let’s pull for the Pack tonight, and Hope they will show up and compete, maybe even win tonight. Go Pack!!!

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not pulling for Duke. I just said, even if we win tonight (which we won’t) this win alone would not be enough to argue for Sid to keep his job. We need to win tonight, and THEN we need to win the majority of our remaining games, before we have a potential argument for keeping Sid another year. But it will take an impressive finish to the season, and it’s looking more and more like that just ain’t gonna happen.

nseast8 said, in part, “[Chancellor Woodson] said that Lowe needs to surround himself with people that understand the college game.”

Very Interesting. Rather than replacing Lowe, could we see a mandate that Lowe replace assistants?

  6. nseast8 01/19/2011 at 4:27 PM #

^I didn’t know if Woodson was refering to actual coaching or complying with NCAA rules and regulations. That’s why I said that I didn’t know how to read into his comment.

Turning the TV to American Idol would be the “last straw” for me…But it might happen…At least Steven Tyler doesn’t piss me off!

All K said about us was that we are a talented team. That’s all Sidney ever has going for him. Even if we somehow miraculously win tonight that should not keep Yow from canning Sid. It’s time to move on. Sidney lacks the ability to mesh highly talented players. If he cannot have some sort of success with this roster then what makes anyone believe he will ever have success.

The Wolfpack Rock- to the tune of The Limbo Rock:

    Every Wolfpack boy and girl
    All around the Wolfpack world
    Gonna do the Wolfpack Rock
Tonight when Duke runs out the clock
Sid’s in limbo, needs a fix
    He’s gone unda limbo stick
When the zeroes hit the clock
    Gonna do The Wolfpack Rock…….

    Wolfpack LOWEr now,
    Wolfpack LOWEr now….
    How LOWe can we go?

Sid obviously has a love and passion for NC State. When he was hired, I was dreaming of 20-30 SUCCESSFUL years as State’s Head Coach. I really like Sid and I was hoping that he would turn things around this year. It is not over yet, but it looks like this maybe his last year. This is probably too late to change but he should have assistant coaches who are strong where he is weak.

Maybe we could hire a retired coach like Bobby Knight to be a consultant to Sid for the remainder of the season.

While i am hoping for a win tonight against Duke, i would not be surprised if the pack gets blown out. 11-7/1-3 with games against unc, vtech.clemson, miami, duke, this thing could get ugly in a hurry (11-12/1-8?)

What makes the situation sad is that the acc is very weak as most of the college basketball scene is. Duke is beatable, UNC is not the same as previous years, Clemson has a new coach, Vtech did not make the NCAA’s last year and Miami as well, and folks are saying this is a tough stretch???

It is disturbing to see St John’s with S Lavin do so well with 10 seniors that he did not even recruit and be 4-2 in the big east. It is tough to see Clemson start 2-2 and 13-5 overall with a new coach. BC is 3-0 with a new coach and in year five, we start out 1-0 against all powerful wake forest whom some say could be one of the worse teams in acc history?? What does that tell you about our program after year five??

In today’s world, results are immediate, not time lasting or excuse giving or blame gaming, i mean UNC fans are questioning Roy Williams?? Two years after winning he ncaa’s?? Heck, we have not even been to the dance since 06!!! I mean it is one thing to go to the prom, but to fuss at the prom queen??? Man, that is a problem i wish we all had!!!

  12. Wolfy__79 01/19/2011 at 6:34 PM #

i’m not so sure the acc isn’t so different than the past two years! the missing ingredient is unc-ch and md getting hyped up as they usually do. the rest of the acc i see as good/bad as they were last year… including nc state!

heading into acc season i felt after the doook game we needed to be atworst!! worst, 2-2. to be on track. at best i though we could be 3-1. but fsu is alot better than i gave them credit for. .. but duke, “they are who we thought they were..” /are! beatable! i’m not making a case, i’m just sayin 🙂

we’re the Ghostbusters: “who are you going to call?”
more specifically: how does State sell State to a coach?

There is another possible meaning. Maybe he was implying that since Sidney doesn’t understand the college game himself, maybe he needs to surround himself with people who do!

    VERY good analogy!!!

we’re the Ghostbusters: “who are you going to call?”

Tell them we’re NC State, and we’re in the ACC, and we want to be good again.

I don’t buy that NC State is not an attractive place to be for a coach. I think our problem last time around was a combination of wanting to go “cheap”, and having Lee Fowler as our AD.

A school with our tradition and history, and being in the ACC, is not a stepping-stone for a coach. It’s a destination. Well, if we ever figure out that we need to PAY a good coach what he’s worth.

there’s an elite coach out there, the best one will be one who embraces the challenge 🙂
