Police on Sunday arrested a former North Carolina State University basketball player in connection with a home invasion last fall.
Gavin Troy Grant, 25, is charged with first-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. He was apprehended without incident in a home in the 5400 block of Summit Manor Lane, police said, and he was expected to make his initial court appearance Monday afternoon.
The charges stem from a home invasion on Crossroads Arbor Way on Sept. 24. Police said two men forced their way into an apartment, assaulted two people who were inside and attempted to rob them. The occupants fought off the men, who fled before completing the robbery.
Police haven’t identified the second robber, but one of Grant’s arrest warrants names Farnold Degand as a conspirator in the robbery.
Grant was a forward/guard for N.C. State from 2004 to 2007. Degand was a Wolfpack guard from 2007 until last year.
Grant, who played for the Utah Flash in the NBA Development League from 2007 to 2010, was charged with a felony count of obtaining property by false pretenses in January 2009.
Grant was recruited to NC State by Herb Sendek. Degand by current Head Coach, Sidney Lowe.
Don’t know what to say at times like this. So, I will let one of the finest representatives of our local Universities make the point to help clear Farnold Degand. (Link) Don’t you know that only the robbers who get caught are the ones who did anything wrong and should get in trouble?

One of Grant’s arrest warrants names Farnold Degand as a conspirator in the robbery, but Sughrue said he wasn’t been charged in the case.
Degand told WRAL News Monday, “I wasn’t there at all. I was never in the vicinity. I had to answer some questions, but was never charged with anything, and I’m just trying to get my name cleared now.”
