* I’ve gotten to the point that I get frustrated when I see Javi on the floor in a starting role. I recognize this is Ryan Harrow’s first road ACC game…but I can’t help it.

* CJ Leslie sure does love to shoot. I wonder if it would be best to limit him to shoot only when he gets an offensive rebound.

* We don’t seem to be boxing out on the defensive boards. Same old, same old. Even a friggin missed free throw leads to a free three pointer for BC.

* Boston College 10 NC State 4

* This is par for the course for our performance when Javi is in the game compared to Harrow. Don’t know how many mathematical analysis need to be run to prove the point.

9:18pm
* Boston College 12 NC State 9

* Pack settling in a little getting the ball to Tracy Smith in the post. Misses BOTH free throws. MUST convert the ‘little things’ on the road tonight.

* Harrow gets in with 14:30 to go in the half with BC leading 12-9

9:30
* Looking like complete crap. Can’t throw the ball in the ocean from the pier.

* Trailing 24-13 with 7:16 in the first half.

9:45pm: BOSTON COLLEGE 28 NC STATE 26 (HALFTIME)
* Fast first half because the refs didn’t blow many whistles.

* Wolfpack heated up in last 7 minutes as Tracy Smith hit four in a row after missing his first four shots.

Second Half Comment
Thank God we have Ryan Harrow!!! So he can sit on the bench and watch Javi’s presence dig us as deep of a hole on the court as possible!

this is going to happen with this team. i’m treating it seperately than Lowe’s previous teams, despite the similarities in coaching strategy and mistakes.

we were off offensively all night and seldom playing together. i think everyone expected tracy smith, including myself, to carry the load down low. he got off to a bad start and so goes the rest of the team. javi will continue to have his lapses, but that doesn’t change the rest of the team not communicating and knowing what is going on with the game. i’m not taking any blame from sid, b/c he gets it all..

even if we won we would have won bc’s game, very clear that we were taken out of our own game or didn’t even bring it (sid). what kills me is that bc had no offense, its a non-offense’ offense. they don’t run squat.. it’s the equivalent of street ball. terrible, we’ll see it again on saturday. should be about the same type of game, hopefully different result.

We gave that one away tonight, and we cannot afford to give any games away. Harrow should take over the starting point guard position from Javi from here on out, but I doubt it will happen. Whatever.

i felt the same at the time of that shot. i didn’t have a good feeling about it the whole game, but when they rushed shots when we had the lead i could tell that it was going to be a lucky win if we got one..

  5. Wolfy__79 01/12/2011 at 12:32 AM #

i agree, it is time for harrow to step in full time.sadly, i really don’t see sidney making that move. right now, he’s already caught up with javi.. which isn’t suprising but expected. Sidney did give him alot of playing time early in the season and he clocked more time than javi did tonight??!! maybe it’s happening?

i’m digging around for some coaches comments but i don’t see a peep!?

So boston college is 3-0 in a conference which they don’t even belong. beating md, gtech and now ncsu. is this a joke?

  8. BJD95 01/12/2011 at 12:52 AM #

BC is now 3-0 vs. ACC, 0-2 vs. Ivy.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the shittiest ACC ever.

Lowe is officially on the clock. We’re going to see about 10-12 more performances like that this year, guys… it’s nothing new… and it has to change next year.

This is Sid’s best team so far – and likely the best he’ll have. And it’s nowhere near good enough…

  11. LifeLongWolf 01/12/2011 at 8:41 AM #

I feel like I have seen this game 1000 times in my life. We have the talent to win, but play just barely well enough to be competitive, not well enough to win. I never had a thought that we were going to win, because the typical arc of this sort of game is that we lose it in the end. That’s usually why we are all so ecstatic after a close win; it’s such a rare thing against quality competition.

I think 8-8 in conference is a ceiling, very possible we go 6-10 or even 4-12. I like Lowe. I wish he would be successful. I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see any reason for optimism.

  12. Rick 01/12/2011 at 9:02 AM #

Lowe is out of his league and when that league is as bad as the ACC this year, you know he is awful

  13. Pack Mentality 01/12/2011 at 9:02 AM #

I can handle a loss if it looks like we gave it everything we had physically, played smart, and left it all on the floor. It seemed like a lot of mental mistakes, missed layups and short jumpers, an attitude that did not care if they won or lost, and the wrong personnel on the floor. The game was close, we could have won, if we practiced hitting easy layups more we would have won. The announcers said this at one point and for once I agreed with them. They said something like “all the missed shots by State are layups.”

  14. Daily Update 01/12/2011 at 9:02 AM #

Sid blew that game all by himself.

  15. pack44fan 01/12/2011 at 9:23 AM #

I believe I understood the announcer to say that NCSU’s ACC record under Lowe is 21 wins and 45 losses with 4 road wins in 5 years!!! This was a very winnable game with the game almost being played at almost a neutral site. Looks like another year without the NCAA’s!

  16. packalum44 01/12/2011 at 9:34 AM #

“Harrow also has a tendancy to score, whereas Javi…doesn’t.”

Someone try to tell Lowe. This kid has the potential to be Chris Paulesque, especially once he bulks up in the next few years…too bad our PG coach hasn’t figured that out.

I watched the first half and saw it was SSDD so I went to bed at halftime. I am glad I did after reading what happened. The train wreck that is our season is gaining momentum.

The good news is…we have a AD who will make a move when this season is over…

Very slow start and lots of missed opportunities in the first half – lucky to be in the game at halftime.

The second half was what I would expect from an ACC game – the team that has the biggest brain fart loses.

Is the loss due to players not performing of the coaching staff just not being able to pound some basic ideas in thick skulls?

I can say now we see games being lost by a momentary lapse rather than a whole game of sucking.

Year 5 time to put up or shut up.

“I’m just saying the “We lost the game because Sid put Javi in” doesn’t pass the smell test.”

Actually, it does. Arguments can be made against it, but it most certainly does “pass the smell test”.

Quick, some one pull Chop in off the ledge! First year State coach Les Robinson might have coached a win there, but even then his teams weren’t exactly road warriors. Les was a broken coach after enduring the personnel losses after his first season and his team’s efforts or lack thereof, especially on the road, sometimes reflected that. On the flip side, he had no problem getting them focused for big games from time to time (mainly UNC).

The lack of effort last night, especially at the outset, was the most damning thing to me. Guys on State looked like they just walked to the game from a long nap. The interior defense was just terrible. Opportunity lost, that was a road game there to be taken on an essentially neutral court, given the sparse turn-out.

  22. tjfoose1 01/12/2011 at 11:33 AM #

“There are more than 50 coaches in America who could correct those lapses in 4 Plus seasons.”

While your statement is technically correct, you are being very kind by using such a low number. The statement would still be true if you replace “more than 50” with “hundreds of”.

I’ll repeat again what I said earlier in the season… Sid’s talents begin and end with recruiting. He instructs, he does not coach. He knows how to win, he just doesn’t know how to teach it.

If you still have doubts, just watch him during just about any timeout… or listen to him after just about any loss. Juxtapose that with the performance of the individual players, and the team as a whole. Sadly, it becomes apparent the man is not qualified for the post he holds.

Though I was a long, hopeful, hold out, I finally had to face the truth after the Wisconsin game. The performance about had me convinced, the comments after that game sealed it.

I was encouraged early – we were getting good shots, but they were not falling. It’s one thing to shoot a poor % if you are shooting bad shots, but we were the getting the shots inside we wanted and would normally make. Stuff happens sometimes. Not Sid’d fault.

Then I was very discouraged b/c Leslie and whatever G’s we had played no D at all. No switching, no help, and most times wide open shots for them. Completely Sid’s fault. If they dont play D, pull them out.

Halfway through the 1st half until the last 3 minutes, we played well. Why did Javi go back in tied at 60? Harrow was gassed – had played most of the way. The mistake was Lowe should have rested Harrow about a minute earlier for the final stretch run beginning at 3 minutes. Instead, we got Harrow on the pine and Javi on the floor. And we know the results. I dont blame Sid for putting Javi on the floor – Harrow needed a rest, but we can blame him for not getting Harrow a rest earlier.

One of my all time favorite coaching comments about a coach’s capabilities was the statement about “he can beat you with his, or we can switch coaches and he will beat you with yours.” Last night was a prime example – we would have won with the BC coach coaching ours.

“If they don’t play D, pull them out.”

Amen. Exasperating game for me. I can’t stand to watch us play when they don’t put out the effort they should. The coach can and should fix that during the game.

I saw the improvement in the team play when Harrow was in vs. Javi. Understand Lowe’s allegiance to Javi, but coaches have to make tough decisions.

Like most of you, I am a huge fan of Wolfpack Athletics. I pull for my team with as much passion as one could muster. I expect our players to show the same excitement and determination when on the court.

I know I’ve been extremely critical of Javi this season. It is against my nature to insult any player who represent’s my school. But when he plays with no emotion and a lack of intellect, I just can’t help but to call a spade a spade. The personality of a coach and his senior players influences the whole team.

Nothing will stop me from supporting our guys. However, I must see some emotional reciprocation on the court.
