Seriously, Delaware State? Pack Narrowly Avoids Humiliating Upset

Here’s J.P. Giglio’s writeup. I didn’t watch or listen, just saw the score on the ticker of Boise State vs. Utah, so I don’t have any real analysis.

But…wow. Just wow. This is Year Five of NC State’s version of the Clyde Drexler experiment. Thank God we finally have a real AD. Much like jolly Saint Nick, I’m sure she’s makin’ a list, and checkin’ it twice.

On that note, I’m off to Puerto Rico for Christmas. Perhaps I will see you in the comments of the bowl game thread (fellow SFN authors, please post the game thread in my absence). And Merry Christmas, everyone!

Glad I stopped caring weeks ago…

Got home from work exhausted and figured I’d watch the Pack on ChannelSurfing. I honestly don’t know what to say except “painful!” That game hurt me almost as bad as losing to the billy goats – Holes. I have been supportive of Sid and of being patient. But honestly, I just do not see us as a NCAA tourney team this year. Right now, not even NIT. The product on the court is lacking in several areas – too many to even list. Even with Tracy back 100%, I just don’t see how we make the NCAA’s. That is,unless we run the table at the ACC. But for all intents and purposes, I’d say you have a better chance of my sending you a million bucks for Christmas. Oh, but I will forever be a glutton for punishment and I’ll keeping watching and keep hoping because I have no choice. The Pack just isn’t giving us much to be excited about.

I never have been, not ever will on the Sidney Lowe fan wagon. So many talked about this being the turn around year, with all our incoming talent. But, as I said, last year if you don’t have a coach it doesn’t matter. How more games do we have to suffer thruough. Give Sid the Christmas present he deserves, fire him now. I certainly won’t waste any money on games, the way this season is looking like. Thank you, Lee Fowler, you hired him. But you are gone, and hopefully we have a woman AD, who has more balls than you, and will show Sidney the exit door. I guess UNC can again 2 wins against us this year. I am sure the Miller brothers, enjoyed beating us in the RBC. Why is NC State so tolerant of mediocrity. If you are curious about Deleware State, you should check out the blowouts they suffered against other Division I, opponents. Embarrassing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE ARE WHO WE THOUGHT WE WERE!

  7. choppack1 12/22/2010 at 11:09 PM #

Larry Brown is now available. Wouldn’t be a bad choice for the interim.

  8. NCSU84 12/22/2010 at 11:16 PM #

choppack1, you do realize Larry Brown is a UNC alumnus. Do we really want a sheep (ram) in wolf’s clothing?

I think it’s about time we all realize what Sidney is doing.

He is waiting for some miracle that will make us better and win games.

The same miracle that gave us the 83 championship.

It’s not his fault, he doesn’t know any better.

The problem is he can’t make his players want it like he did.

Unfortuneately, it is time for a change.

Just tread water, don’t lose these gimme games, have a dismal ACC regular seasion with a small rally in there somewhere, then fade off into the sunset.

I got there about 10 minutes before gametime, walking across a mostly empty parking lot into an RBC that might’ve been half full 10 minutes later, maybe not. It was pretty quiet for most of the night, with the biggest applause coming for the kids on unicycles at halftime.

The game started in typical Wolfpack fashion, with Javi throwing up an air ball at the end of the 35-second clock, and another on his next attempt. The rest of his air balls were like the tee-shirt tosses- into the stands. Players were trying again for roundhouse dunks instead of simply laying the ball in, big men were again fouling at midcourt, and the only Wolfpack offensive movement for the first ten minutes was turnovers. Finally, we settled down and built a 10-point lead at halftime.

In the second half we continued going inside and led by 12 before again lapsing into another stupor, taking bad shots and committing dumb fouls. With a huge size disadvantage, the ONLY way Delaware State could stay in the game was for us to quit going inside (which we had been doing at will), and somehow get to the foul line. Thanks to astute coaching, we oblidged them both ways here, and we finally fell behind in the final few minutes. With the score tied and time running down, our last possession looked like a HWSNBN Chinese fire drill, just passing the ball around the perimeter, with Harrow finally putting up a desperate baseline shot that missed. However, DS had no big man to rebound the miss, and the ball fell into Scott Wood’s hands 10 feet away. He then clanged in his only points of the game.

That last Delaware State shot was barely off the mark, and I mean BARELY. Visions of Chandler Parsons flashed before me as I watched that shot hang in the air from my corner seat up behind the State bench. Man, it was close!

I don’t know if our AD has made her New Year’s resolutions or not, but if she hasn’t, I have a suggestion. Put a new basketball head coach on the floor at noon on January 1.

The pattern of play has been consistent with Sidney’s teams since he came to NCSU, sufficient talent but they just don’t have a killer instinct to play 40 minutes at a high level. The model for that level of play is all around us at Duck and UNX. If you want to play for championships, you have to play all out all the time. Sidney’s teams just have never shown that they are motivated to that level of play.

I feel sorry for Tracey Smith if he comes back. He will be under the pressure of having to be the savior of this years team, a tall order for him or any other 19 or 20 y/o kid.

Why is it that NCSU cannot land a good basketball coach, instead we get a band of ex players hoping to figure it out before their own fans show then the door. The door is ajar and its time for a big time coach who embraces the challenge of having UNX and Duck in his back yard. The new AD and Chancellor need to take a long hard look at the athletics program at NCSU and decide what it going to be, a no excuses quest to be the best they can be or just continue getting by on the mediocrity of the status quo. NCSU has the best, most generous and loyal fans in the nation. They and the kids hoping to play their sport at the highest levels and dedicate themselves to doing that in Raleigh at NCSU deserve much more.

I was unable to hear or watch the game, and what I have read doesn’t instill a lot of confidence. The players State has should not have to win a game against a Delaware St. on a put back at the end of the game. Did anyone guard the last shot by DSU? Glad the Pack got a “W”, but this does not bode well.

  14. Wolf74 12/23/2010 at 12:45 AM #

Can we hire Lee Fowler back?

    If so: I would like for NCSU to do that;

SO WE COULD HAVE THE PLEASURE OF FIRING HIM AGAIN!!!!!

  15. PackerInRussia 12/23/2010 at 1:02 AM #

    There was a basketball game?

  16. kbrown 12/23/2010 at 1:14 AM #

It is so hard to pull for a team when you show up expecting a good performance since we have good talent now! I went to the AU game and wanted to blow my brains out. Never in my life have I been so disappointed. State BBall is worse than Les Robinson and Sidney should resign out of respect for the team he supposedly cares about. F state until I see anything better.
The Hornets got back in it by holding N.C. State to one field goal during the first 5 1/2 minutes of the second half, then used a 20-8 to take their first lead since shortly before halftime.
ha, ha hahah ahahahaha.

    same ole same ole

Having Sid ‘coach’ this team is like having Michael Jackson baby sit your kids. You know its going to end badly…yet we continue to do this anyway.

  20. rawolf 12/23/2010 at 7:59 AM #

I dont know anymore, after a night of sleep and thinking about this team. I just dont know what is wrong. I have been with my team since 1974. I watched 2 NCAA titles and for this last 21 or so years I have had about 4 years to feel good about State. I know Sid means well but I feel that he can’t bring the best out of his players. This players are good, you see that at times. I dont want to give up on the players. I thank them for coming to State and hope that their coach gets it real soon and that this is a different team when Tracy comes back. I bitch alot but I will be there for the bad and the good. I just want some good NOW. Come on boys I would like to make one more NCAA bid before I am gone GO PACK Again to the players thanks for coming to NC STATE

on the bright side, maybe we’ll win the lottery and get first pick in the draft.

Has anyone given much thought to the idea that Sid may, in fact, WANT to be fired? It sure is starting to look that way.
