How good is Arizona? Will WVU DB Hogan play in bowl game? And more…

WVU Defensive Back Brandon Hogan Suffered Torn ACL

Head athletic trainer Dave Kerns said Hogan suffered a Torn ACL and is getting treatment frequently. He is not practicing as a result of that injury and his status for the bowl game is unknown.

Hogan has 17 days to try and heal in enough time to play against NC State in the Champs Sports Bowl.

Hogan has recorded 37 tackles, one fumble recovery and six pass breakups in his senior season.

Weak schedule may be masking (Arizona) problems

This season, in large part because of factors beyond Miller’s control, the Wildcats have played a schedule rated No. 233 so far. So while they still appear on track for an NCAA tournament berth at 8-2, their schedule has made it difficult to tell what kind of team, exactly, they are.

Graham dominates at National Hoops Festival

The event featured 14 teams from the greater Washington, D.C. area and a little beyond, but it was Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God’s star junior Torian Graham who stole the show with a scintillating 34-point outburst. Torian Graham, SG, Word of God- A super-athletic off guard, Graham exploded out of the gate with 15 points in the first two-and-half minutes and never looked back. Long and lean, he’s got legitimate range to at least 22 feet, drives to the rim for huge dunks and loves to finish with floaters and short jumpers when driving lanes get cut off. He’s prone to taking some plays off and is a bit right hand dominant, but the four-star wing has huge upside and hasn’t even begun to mature much physically. He listed N.C. State, West Virginia, Xavier, Louisville, Clemson, Miami, Boston College, Villanova, Marquette, Indiana and Rutgers and indicated that he’s in no hurry to cut down on his list.

Time to step up, Terrapin Nation

But the reality is, as a fan base, we did not support our football team as we should have. This season, we carried a sub-par 72.5% attendance rate at Byrd. For comparisons sake, N.C. State blew us away, averaging a whopping 98.7% attendance rate. I’m sorry, but that’s pitiful. As a bowl official trying to make money, while still putting a quality product on the field, which team would you have selected? As much as it pains me, it’s tough to say the Terps without being biased.

It’s time to put up or shut up Terp fans. I’m not blaming you for being upset, but our fanhood is being questioned people. Every bowl committee associated with an ACC team is calling us out. NC State head coach Tom O’Brien says the reason that N.C. State passed us by was because they “have fans.” The East Carolina fan base is gloating about how RFK is going to be filled with purple. Even Maryland head coach Ralph Friedgen and athletic director Kevin Anderson are, essentially begging us to show up.

Maryland will have a lot more fans at their local bowl game than we will in Orlando. IMO, our reputation will be somewhat hurt by our turnout in Orlando. Expensive plane tickets, long drive, and a horrible date is going to keep our turnout low. IMO, it would have been better for NC State in the long run to go to Clt.

We travel well to exactly two bowl games. Other than that we are pretty good but not great. If we have any reputation other than that it is innacurate and always has been.

Comparing us to other ACC schools, we do better than all but Clemson, VT, and FSU. Our rep will stay where it is and this trip really won’t hurt us because we will always be “competing” against other ACC schools for bowl slots.

^ Agreed. The Car Care or CFA bowls would have been better for attendance. A win over Maryland and a better date for Champs would have helped us as well. Still does not justify that our rep is a little overrated for traveling to bowl games.

On a side note, those WVU uniforms from the Pitt game were awesome.

I have heard recently that the initial ticket sales have been slow for the Champs Bowl. Is that correct or is it a premature assesment of the
    response by State supporters?

Arizona looked pretty good until BYU smacked them the other night. I’ve seen most of their games on satellite; for sure they’d beat their ASU rivals. How they’ll do against us depends on whether or not we play any defense. If Gonzalez sits and Tracy plays, our chances go up. We’re playing at home so we should win this one, but after watching NCSU basketball for the past 4 seasons and 4 weeks, this team will be lucky to finish even in the top half of a horrendous-looking ACC.

Losing to AZ would be a very bad thing. Considering that we have nothing but cupcakeage left OOC, I don’t think this is a schedule we could plausibly go without a decent win (if we expect a bid at 9-7).

I WANTED TO GET ATTENTION TO THE LIBERTY MUTUAL COACH OF THE YEAR VOTING.

(Sorry for the upper case but we need to go on line and vote for TOB)

THE FINALISTS ARE IN AND TOM OBRIEN MADE THE CUT!

ALTHOUGH INITIAL VOTING HAD OBRIEN AT #10 AND B.DAVIS AT #8 THOSE FINALISTS WERE FURTHER EXAMINED BY THE LIBERTY MUTUAL COMMITTEE TO DETERMINE WHICH COACHES WERE GOOD LEADERS IN THEIR COMMUNITY AND SET GOOD EXAMPLES FOR THEIR PLAYERS.

DAVIS WAS NOT INCLUDED ALTHOUGH GETTING MORE INTERNET VOTES THAN SOME OTHER QUALIFYING COACHES. OBVIOUSLY HAVING THE NCAA INVESTIGATING YOUR PROGRAM AS WELL AS TUTORS PROVIDING ASSISTANCE TO GET FOOTBALL PLAYERS PASSING GRADES ELIMINATED DAVIS.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHY WE ALL NEED TO PROMOTE TO OTHERS WE KNOW TO GO ONLINE TO COACHOFTHEYEAR.COM AND VOTE FOR OBRIEN.

THIS WOULD BE GREAT PUBLICITY AND GOOD FOR RECRUITS PARENTS AND GUARDIANS TO SEE.

VOTE FOR TOB EVERY DAY FOR THE LIBERTY MUTUAL COACH OF THE YEAR.

I really like TOB, but I can’t help it. I still hold a grudge for him not going for it on 4th and 1 at Clemson. I blame him for us not winning the division and getting the spoils that go along with it.

I can’t justify voting for TOB yet.

    Old MacDonald-

You are totally wrong in saying VT and FSU travel better than us. I think FSU fans will show up pretty good for the game in the Georgia Dome but for the Second straight year VT will not sell all their tickets for the Orange Bowl and the School will owe a little over a million dollars
