Bowl Preferences?

We’re going to have an entry later that will spell out NC State and the ACC’s current bowl landscape. Before we do, we wanted to give everyone a chance to chime in with your own selfish, personal preference for the Wolfpack’s coming bowl trip.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

    Anywhere but El Paso!

Just because I’ll already be out that way…I’d prefer to drop to Nashville…

Jeez, I actually thought the Sun Bowl could be kind of interesting until I saw that ESPN is projecting either Army or Toledo to fill the PAC-10 slot. F that.

I’m almost too disgusted with that poor showing at Maryland to even think about a bowl just yet. I haven’t watched the sports on the local news, or the coaches show, or read any articles about games, since we blew that golden opportunity.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

It’s going to take a bit to get re-energized

Against any team that mostly runs the ball. I can’t stand the thought of watching our secondary again…ugly.

As for Saturday, it was disappointing, but, I’m over it. I wasn’t even expecting a bowl game this year.

With the ups and downs on that this team has experienced this season, I’d much rather see us in a bowl against a foe that we have a decent shot at beating….given our recent track record with middle of the road SEC teams (that are for the most part superior to anything the ACC puts out), I’d rather not see us play in Atlanta this year.

Hey – as someone who went to BOTH bowl games in Orlando – I’d go if I had the vacation available. Of course, I don’t this year, so that’s not an issue.

The only regret I had as I watched us destroy Kansas was that the team I was watching should have done a hell of a lot better than 7-5 in the regular season.

The morning after the game as I was waiting for my cab at the hotel, I heard a Kansas fan talking to his friend. He said that one of his good buddies was a huge BC fan – and was worried about having to face FSU and Clemson. He told his buddy after our game, “The team to worry about is NC State.” Well…

nitewolf, I wasn’t either, going into the season. But once I saw what we were capable of, I adjusted my expectations. And just because we’re 8-4 when everyone expected 5-7 or worse, doesn’t make it OK to lose the way we lost to ECU and Clemson. Had we taken care of business at Clemson (and gone for it on 4th and 1 — that still stings), the outcome of the Maryland game wouldn’t have mattered. We would have been more loose, and probably ended up winning that one, too.

It’s kind of like my parents told me when I was still in high school. If the best I can do is a “C”, they are happy with a “C”. But if I can make an “A”, and I end up with a “B”, they aren’t happy with that “B”.

State should have made an “A this year, and we ended up with a “B”. We could have done better.

“Had we taken care of business at Clemson (and gone for it on 4th and 1 — that still stings), the outcome of the Maryland game wouldn’t have mattered.”

I’d avoid this kind of thinking. You can’t assume that we’d beat UNC if we beat Clemson. Heck, you can’t even assume that FSU would still lose to UNC. Football’s a game of inches – and while folks like to play the “what if” game – it’s a flawed excercise.

I do think we should have beaten Clemson and if our offense had been “competent” that day, we would have.

bradleyb, wrong thread. As for bowl games, the chic-fil-a bowl would be a nice treat. But the Sun Bowl intrigues me if we would actually get to face a Pac-10 team. I would love for us to play a team from a conference in a different part of the country for once. Aside from our home-and-home with Texas and OSU several seasons ago, all of our regular season non-conf games have been against ECU or some regional FCS team.

  12. codebrown 11/29/2010 at 3:46 PM #

Who gives a crap. Peach Bowl would be nice, but no way they’d take us over FSU after that pure dog poop we put on the field at College Park.

I wouldn’t mind the Champs Bowl in Orlando. But it’s on the Tuesday after Christmas. I doubt anyone will travel for that.

I guess there’s always the Muffler Bowl at the BOA Stadium, where we should have been playing this weekend. But that’s neither here or there. I’m going through the 5 stages of dealing with death again as I’m typing this comment…

I think we have a varsity basketball team that I can cheer for or something.

  13. Packfan28 11/29/2010 at 3:57 PM #

If the Champs picks Notre Dame, then I vote for Orlando. That would be a very winnable game, great exposure, and a nice place to visit.

Sportsline.com has a prediction of NC State v. West Virgina in the Tire Bowl.

  15. NCSU84 11/29/2010 at 4:13 PM #

CBS has us in the Tire Bowl as well.

As the No. 5 ACC team we go to the Tire Bowl. From being a possible ACC champion to No. 5. and the Tire Bowl – very depressing. Oh well, at least we can say we made it to Charlotte.

  16. coach13 11/29/2010 at 4:20 PM #

short of winning tickets/accomodations I will not consider going. Got hosed by purchasing ACC CG tickets already. F TOB.

  17. jrsr 11/29/2010 at 4:24 PM #

Already have tickets to the Muffler Bowl here in Charlotte.
I make the trip from Charlotte to Raleigh for all of the football games, its time for the Raleigh people to drive this way.
    GO PACK!

A little off topic. But, if it comes to pass, that Wisconsin vs. TCU should be a humdinger. Much better than the annual boring Big-Ten / Pac-10 tribute to themselves bowl.

ACC predictions (again if these projected matchups hold true):5-3
    GT – lose
    FSU – win
    Miami – win
NC State – win (I think we regroup and win)
    UNC – lose
    BC – lose
    Md – win
    Clemson – win

  19. highstick 11/29/2010 at 4:36 PM #

Anywhere, but Charlotte…I think they need to start calling it the Wolfpack and Tarhole Bowl…Worse than kissing your sister………it’s almost like incest…

I live in Las Cruces, NM, which is served by the El Paso media market. After the Colts-Chargers game last night the local NBC affiliate’s sports crew did a short special report on the Sun Bowl, including an interview with Sun Bowl Executive Director Bernie Olivas. NC State was not even mentioned, or at least no more than in passing. It was pretty clear that Miami was tops on the wish list, despite the egg the Canes laid Saturday and Shannon’s firing. The issue is that right now there is no available Pac-10 team for the bowl bid, given that both Oregon and Stanford will go to BCS games. Olivas was adamant that either Washington or Oregon State would get the requisite six wins this weekend that would make them eligible for the bid. I sincerely doubt the Beavers have a prayer against Oregon, but Washington is surging and they’ll play at 2-9 Washington State, so unless they pull a TOB they should be in. Yes, Notre Dame, Toledo and Army were among a handful of options listed should the Pac-10 not provide an eligible team – the reporters were even speculating that perhaps some kind of swap between one of the six Conference USA-affiliated bowls could be negotiated so that UTEP could play in the bowl. It sounds like the Armed Forces will do its best to get Army, though.

On the other hand, a story in today’s El Paso Times opines that both Miami and Notre Dame are doubtful participants now. The Times speculates that the Irish and ‘Canes will face off in the Champs Sports Bowl. The article also notes that if the Pac-10 doesn’t supply a team, the Sun Bowl could select an SEC or Big 12 also-ran.

Aren’t we #4 behind FSU, VT and MD? Miami would be #5.

  22. inhoc... 11/29/2010 at 7:13 PM #

Champs sports bowl is where the team “deserves” to go based on logic. There is no reason whatsoever to have Miami go to a better bowl than state. No one in their right mind would pick UMD over state for a bowl even if they just beat state. Anything less than champs sports of the sun bowl would be a screw job. and i wouldn’t expect anything less, so Charlotte here we come.

  23. BladenWolf 11/29/2010 at 7:36 PM #

I picked the Chick bowl for a three good reasons.
First it is the best bowl we could swing while providing the best competition. I still believe we have a great football team (although we did our typical playing-to-our-competition with the EZU, Clemzon, and Marys-land fiascoes) so we can show the nation we deserve the best possible bowl and beat the snot out of a holier-than-thou SEC conference team.
Secondly, we’ve already demonstrated that we can beat Notre Dame (I attended the 28-6 drubbing at the ’03 Gator Bowl). Been there. Done that>
Thirdly, playing a weak-ass Pac 10 team in the Sun Bowl or going to Charlotte’s Tire Bowl would be a disservice to our teams great year.
    GO PACK!

Based on my seasoned citizen status, I think that I have been to 5 bowls….First in Philly…BOO CHILLY….we lost. Second was a Fog Bowl in Jacksonville….Lost. Next was the first Orlando NOT my favorite stadium….Lost. Then back to J’Ville for a great defeat of ND…WIN. Then to BOA for the Car Bowl….Win. Finally to B’ham for the Pizza Bowl where the Rutgers fans (classy) kicked in the grills of the NCSU Motorhomes…Grat Security…Lost.

SO…I’m 2 & 4 for the bowls that I chose to attend….Gonna really have to be a GREAT game to get me back to Orlando….Nashville is beckoning….and will probably go to the idiotic RTP Invitational that is held in Charlotte.

Need to get my enthusiasm back

I would love the CFA, but I’ve a strange feeling the Noles are gonna shock the Hokies, despite logic to the contrary. And nobody can pass up VT (teh CFA wouldn’t anyway) according to the BC rule since they have a 2 game lead on everybody else.

We are going to Charlotte and will get WVA, which is a pretty good deal and will feel better and better the farther we get away from last Saturday. I hope.

Right now its like getting a hot dog when you had a hankering for steak and lobster.
