Named after Wade Boggs, the 23 year-old Wade Moore (Bats: L / Throws: R) is one of the best pure athletes Rowan County has produced.
Initially committing to the Tarheels, Wade changed his mind and decided to lace up at Doak Field. After a rocky road, he earned a starting spot as a Junior… only to twice blow out his hamstring. He almost hung up the spikes and called it quits. Instead he moved back home and decided to play at local college Catawba. His senior year he came back with a vengeance and batted .410 with 17 homers, 77 runs and 29 steals in 52 games. In June he was drafted in the 19th round, the 566th pick of the draft, with the Nationals getting a bargain on the oft injured player.
He immediately reported to the Vermont Lake Monsters, playing right field and swiping 17 bases in 19 attempts and posting an OBA close to .400. Missing the playoffs, the Nationals sent him to play instructional league ball in Florida, where he was a teammate of Bryce Harper (you know, the guy with the Ultimate Warrior face paint).
Moore made a lasting impression and should receive a promotion next year. Several coaches had him at the top of their list and look for him to fight for a spot on the Nationals roster very soon. Best of luck Wade!
