Red Letter Night for Wolfpack

Carter-Finley and the fantastic Wolfpack fans shone as bright as ever during ESPN’s Thursday night television broadcast.  (With the lone exception of the fire-able offense of significantly embarrassing the entire NC State community with the playing of “Who Let the Dogs Out” late in the 4th quarter.  I am not kidding.  Fire the person who did that…NOW!  You can even bring back the person who did the “Mexi-Cam”.  But, there can never be “Who Let the Dogs Out” or that stupid ‘cha-cha-cha-turn-around-to-the-left-to-the-right’ song late in any football game.  Ever!)

But, NC State was shining even brighter on ESPN.com.  On Thursday night just before midnight, NC State was simultaneously the lead story on the front page of both ESPN’s College Football site and College Basketball site.  Pretty friggin cool.  Attached below are screen shots.

I think they should play Steel Panther songs during the timeouts.

Great win for th Pack…coaches need to learn their lesson here and let Russel Wilson run the damn ball from now on.

As a student, no complaints about the music. I mean honestly I could care less about the music, I’m with Al Davis on this one- “just win baby win.” As for Who Let The Dogs Out, that student section was crazy, and yes they could have been playing any number of songs, but we didn’t care.

Hungwolf: They play Hungry Like the Wolf after every game we hear it when walking away from the stadium after the alma mater.

As for ESPN.com, saw that this morning- pretty exciting times here in Raleigh. I grew up going to games here and have never seen more excitement for both sports, or ever heard a louder crowd at Carter-Finley (especially during Who Let The Dogs Out).

Props to Heather Dinich (hard to type this). But check out her pre-game prediction:

NC State 31, Florida State 28 (OT) — This is the biggest game the Wolfpack have played in years, and it’s an upset in the making. The Carter-Finely crowd will make for a great atmosphere, and quarterback Russell Wilson will be the difference. Linebackers Audie Cole and Nate Irving will help slow down the running game, and FSU quarterback Christian Ponder will be forced into a costly turnover.

That was a big win. Period. No matter how it got done, no matter what kinds of silly music was blaring. I’ll take it!

That being said, I am old fashioned about football games and music.

“Maybe we should be making better use of the marching band during the game. Let them play the music, after all that’s why they are there.”

Yes. That’s the kind of music for a football game. They can play all kinds of cool stuff and coming from a live band, it’s way better than canned stuff blasting over the speakers. Also, the marching band is never overpowering. I want to be able to talk to people around me at the game and not be drowned out by big blaring PA speakers. It’s a football game, not a rock concert.

We had a great game, great crowd and a great victory and you guys are complaining about the music!!!! Common… GET A LIFE. :-), 🙂

My only complaint was the DOT paving 40 West on the way home (they did it for the Cinci game also)

AMEN to the complaints about the music being way too loud in CFS. The noise from the scoreboard is so loud that it even drowns out the fans’ cheers at times. We sit on the west side lower level near the 10 yard line, and are literally blasted away by the loud and often mindless crap that’s belted out relentlessly. Not only does the music need to be turned down to at least half the present level, most of it needs to stop altogether. I like the visuals, but please turn down the volume!

People won’t come into the stadium until kickoff because the music is so loud that it keeps ’em away until the last possible minute. I do like talking to others when I’m in the stadium, but the music and loud advertisements make it almost impossible, and I need to save my voice for screaming during the game, not screaming at the person next to me just to be heard.

I’ve been to many games at UM in Ann Arbor, and they don’t do this crap there. The result is a much more enjoyable experience, and their student band is more of a presence. It’s nice to be able to hear Hail To The Victors and other music played by the band during the game.

If some of the Big Wolves would come down out of the skyboxes and sit with us down on the field, so to speak, for one game, something might be done about this. Keep the wolf howls loud like they are, but PLEASE do something to turn down the volume and frequency of the music!

I’ll say it as anyone else that attended last night, what a wonderful atmosphere. We got the win and that is what matters, with enormous national exposure and a ranked team sent home. I do wish the 1 thing that could be louder in my opinion is the wolf howling. We ARE the Wolfpack and let that son of a gun sound off all over Wake County. Let the opposing team know the wolves are hungry and going to feast.

Damn. Dinich is a soothsayer. No doubt, kudos to her. That last sentence and the last “essential” play of the game is insane!

All of the above complaints about music and no one has complained about the 30 second clip of Phil Collins. I couldn’t have been the only one to notice that.

Absolutely, I noticed that. I said to my wife, “Are they TRYING to make us fall asleep???”

Otherwise, I was OK with the music. But I agree that it was too loud — from the getgo. We were there an hour before kickoff and I thought it was too loud.

But we should probably be taking today as a chance to just revel in this monumentally huge win. We can b!tch about the music tomorrow or Monday. Let’s enjoy this nice, nice win for a day!

Agree with 61Packer. Way too loud during the pregame. Been twice this year and its very hard to talk over it. I’m ok five or 10 minutes before kickoff as a build up to the team coming out but when you get to you seats early to watch the warm ups it’s anoying as hell to be blasted by the scoreboard speakers – I don’t care what kind of music they’re playing.

Great win for the Pack. Congratulations to all players and coaches. A real team win. Good to see Russell back to his old form and hope Nate is OK.

Somebody call the Whaaambulance. This is the kind of thread that gives this site such a gre…, well, … a reputation!

Maybe 5% of the crowd did not sing along with “Who let the dogs out” – the ones who are too cool to acknowledge anything fun.

“Make your way to the next ECU home game. Listen intently to their music selection. Take notes. Take more notes. Return to the Carter and implement new selections.”

I’ve heard the same comment from everyone I know that was at the ECU game…the music selection in Greenville was fantastic and helped the keep the home crowd worked up.
Personally, I think the music selection at CF, along with the decision to ‘turn the volume down’ are the direct result of some big-time donor throwing his weight around because he didn’t like some of the selections. Back in the Amato/Rivers days it was nice hearing some POD or Drowing Pool over the PA.
I really think we’re headed for a Barry Manilow music day at CF if this trend keeps on.

As a big fan of Lawrence Welk, and I have a copy of his aurobiography Wunnerful, Wunnerful!, I’d rather hear him at Carter Finley than a bunch of faceless nameless nationalized music what has about as much roots to it as a patch of fescue on a soil with a ph of 4.7.

It is not my fault that many of you were raised in the cul de sacs of Raleigh, Cary, Charlotte or Greensboro and you have less culture than bad milk. Fight songs, hateful slogans, lots of cussing and plenty of regional food: that is good living my friends.

Now take your Steely Dan……..your Phil Collins…….your Soulja Boy and stick it.

More bands, more pageantry, and more pomp and circumstance.

    Haters!!

If it’s too loud, you’re too old.

On that note, the crowd was as loud as I’ve ever heard it.

How did the red/white checkers/stripes look from the rest of the stadium and tv? IDK that it came across very well, but the effort was great for the environment.

We just won one of the biggest games on national television, and that is what I went to see. But we spend a whole blog continuously complaining about the music, when we should be celebrating a victory over FSU. I am sure radio stations don’t play songs that are always to everybody’s liking. Get over it, and enjoy what we accomplished Thursday nite, before a loud sellout crowd at Carter-Finley. Go Wolfpack!!!!

  16. rlgray 10/30/2010 at 8:43 AM #

Anyone at the game can tell you that it seemed as though all the Pack fans were signing along with Who Let The Dogs Out at the end of the game. It was a great feeling and a great sound at that time!

Does anyone else out there really like the to hear the “Wolpack Howling” before EVERY third down ?? I think it is a great touch and beats those bells tolling you hear in about 20 other stadiums around the country !!!
