I remember there were alot of doubting posts leading up to this game:

“I have this as a Loss.”

“The loss to Kansas has tempted me to be hopeful. Unless I see something in the UNC/GT game this will remain a L until I am proved otherwise”

    “We havent beat anyone yet.”

    “I am assuming a L this sat”

“We havent done anything of note yet.”

When I went back and re-read them, I realized they were all from the same guy. Hopefully you (you know who you are), are convinced now.

“…but the defense had significant lapses in the 2nd half, and that kept GT in the game.”

Yeah, true, but really none other than that one UGLY 3 play, we forgot how to tackle, drive.

Ga Tech was gonna make some big plays, it was inevitable. The key was to limit them. They had some big runs, a few nice pass plays. But we succeeded in limiting them. We even won the Time of Possession battle. Outstanding. Our defense did an AWESOME job.

I can’t wait to hear how we haven’t played anyone yet, how GT is down, how the Pack won’t be legit until they beat a legit team, yaddee yaddee yaddee.

We’ve now beaten TWO BCS teams, and one team picked to win their division in their non-BCS conference, ON THE ROAD.

It’s time the press gave State the respect it deserves. This team should be a top 20 team. Their play deserves it. It will help recruiting and might pry away some in-state top talent from the cheatin’ baby blue.

    Alpha,

I’m ok with being disrespected as long as we keep taking care of business!

This a nerve-racking team, but fun to watch.

Almost all of the time that the Pack is on TV, I turn the sound off because of the announcers. But today we got Bob Griese (sp?) and I like his analysis. 1) He had seen our UC game so he knows something of RW and 2) today he was touting RW as maybe the best QB in the country! Thank heavens someone with credibility (a lot IMO) has brought that to the nation.

Game story – missed O/K opportunities in the first half; SLIGHT D lapse in the second half. But the D and the O showed up when it counted. Great win against a tough GaTech bunch! Both teams are to be congratulated for their efforts.

Folks, I think that we have a FOOTBALL TEAM!!! GO PACK!

“D played well, and the Wolfpack was lucky that GT did not capitalize in all the mistakes and errors”

I wouldn’t attribute GT’s failure to execute, or capitalize on anything to “luck”.

Interesting, we’ve beaten the reigning ACC and Big East Champions…back to back…with a shot at C-USA champion in a few weeks…

The Pack D gave up 3 TDs to an offence that is reportedly “unstoppable.”

I say a game ball to Jon Tenuta!

We’ve got a “He can take his’n and stop your’n and he can take your’n and stop his’n” situation in West Raleigh. I hope TOB does what it takes to have Jon Tenuta retire as a Wolfpack coach.

Trying to stay grounded, but gotta say that was impressive. For the second game in a row, RW completed passes to 11 different receivers. Heck, it could have easily ended up 61-21 or even 68-21. Can’t remember an offense putting up such a seemingly effortless 38 points. Especially liked how they cut our 17 pt lead to 3 and we ran it right back up to 17. (although we had a lot of help from on that really questionable call to go on 4th and 10) Also liked how we ran the ball well when needed.

Great game. Good job in all aspects of the game. Vad Lee, do you want to reconsider?

  11. bTHEredterror 09/25/2010 at 5:48 PM #

Damn straght, if you want to talk about luck, GT is lucky we dropped one TD before the first missed FG and stalled before the second. And they got a stupefying, bad-idea floater from RW, fortunately more of a teaching point now. Watching that display there is no question we are a solid team. I don’t expect them to win them all, but it should be because of football reasons and not maturity. I see our guys looking ’09ish when the game seems out of reach. But fairly dominant most of the game. These three early games need to be used for that, finishing every play. And a good job finishing on the ones that really counted.
I think the disaster that was last year is actually going to pay dividends this year. They owe so many of their upcoming opponents thath they shouldn’t lose focus.

VT? Stomped us. We owe ’em.
BC? Embarassing memories. We MUST destroy.
ECU?They just need to be shut up on general principles.
FSU? Don’t tell me he dropped that ball. Heartbreaking.
Clemson? So you don’t have CJ Spiller anymore, I see.
Wake? Don’t stop running your route! Heartbreaking.
Cheaters? Are the Cheaters. Media will provide motivation.
Maryland? Ruiner of dreams. SENIOR DAY, which most seniors (and RS JRs like our QB) will recall.

Like I said I don’t expect them to run the table, but winning the division is very real until proven otherwise.

    Alpha,

I listened to 790 AM here in ATL on way home from game. They were talking the play of their D, of course, and how they made Russell Williams look like one of the best QBs in the country. I don’t know if he is the best or not, I like Stanford’s QB a lot, but I am not sure I would take any other QB to run my team.

The best part of the game was the stadium announcer stating:

“Thanks for coming out today for the game” with 6 minutes to go after we scored our last TD. I realize there was a mass exodus at that point, but why in the world would you announce that.

  13. GoldenChain 09/25/2010 at 6:19 PM #

What a total effort. We might really have the best team we’ve had in years.

Really, in all our wins we have been dominant. Its been so long I forgt how good it felt.

  14. Alpha Wolf 09/25/2010 at 6:22 PM #

^ Awesome, LF. So glad you made it to the ATL to see one of the biggest wins since 2002. Awesome that you REPRESENTED!

Anyway, the TV announcers kept asking if we were the best team in the ACC.

Objectively, if NC State plays four whole quarters and limits its mistakes, I honestly believe that no one outside the top 5 teams in the country can beat us.

Why do I say that? Our offense and gameplans will keep us in games. Our defense likes to hold meetings at the QB as soon as the ball is snapped.

For the record, I think Griese read our pre-game story, because he used many of the same phrases I did yesterday. I laughed out loud when he said our kicking game was our Achilles Heel. True dat, it is, but who said that yesterday?

  15. highstick 09/25/2010 at 6:24 PM #

Beat Clempson~~~ Show Kyle Parker who the best QB and baseball player is~!~~

  16. Alpha Wolf 09/25/2010 at 6:35 PM #

^ You know I want to beat them Tigers, highstick.

Sorry about our little argument yesterday, dude. We’re both all Pack!

    OK 14- Cinn 9 2nd quarter dang

  18. coach13 09/25/2010 at 7:24 PM #

Heard ol coach (Lou Holtz) hatin on the pack. Well not hatin, but Mark was on said until proven Pack is the team to beat in the ACC…Holtz quickly chimed in “Nope. Miami is better. And Florida State.”
Wrong! Miami has no QB. And while FSU beat WF by alot, WF (like Rutgers today) looked pitiful and inept. At least Rutgers kept it close. BC looked pretty awful today too. What’s up with that? I understand drop offs but alot of these teams look absolutely pitiful.

As far as ranking? I hope they disrespect us and keep us outta the top 25. I think that would irritate the crap outta our guys. Maybe add a little chip on the old shoulder. Say what you want, these guys read and watch the news. They’ll know. They may say they don’t care if you ask, but they do…they will. I don’t see too many top 25 teams losing either, so unless they bump teams that don’t lose, we may get overlooked…again X(

In Atlanta for the game, and though we made mistakes, we won, with over 500 yards of offense. Even more special, due to the rude GT students next to our section, constantly gave us the finger. But the funniest thing was this song they play over the PA, and the students jump up and down when they score. On our last TD drive of the first half, the State fans mimicked the song, and really pissed off the students. Was really funny! Needless to say the students were clearing out with our last score. I guess we had the last laugh on their rudenss. Go Pack!!!!

  20. Plz2BStateFan 09/25/2010 at 7:37 PM #

The best part about this team is that it will not go to their heads. They are business like just like the BC teams of old!

    I love this coaching staff!

    Great job preparing for GT.

  21. Alpha Wolf 09/25/2010 at 7:55 PM #

Lou Holtz will never say good things about NCSU. That grudge is old and solid, so forget it. Ever noticed he never had any pics of him as NCSU’s coach on TV?

Anyway, Plz2BStatefan has it 100% correct: this team is a team and they went right back to business after they ran into adversity.

I am telling you, this NCSU team is a GOOD football team and if it can limit its mistakes, it will be extremely difficult for any team not names Ohio State or Alabama to beat. You can’t beat TEAMWORK and GUNG HO.

I cannot be more pleased with the way these guys responded. We just need a Mike Cofer kind of kicker. That’s their only weakness.

Just got home from the game. Had great seats as a board member at Tech I know gave me 50 yd line seats on the Tech side. We got POUNDED by the sun for 75% of the game and this trip down to Tech was better than any others.

    1) Fine defensive package the entire game. Safeties up tight, line backers spread with limited blitzing. D linemen engaging one or two O linemen at the point of attack and NOT giving ground. Cole would adjust inward when the motion or power pointed toward him. Bishop had a great defensive game, he was rarely out of position and made plenty of stops. Big game for everyone on defense, rotating D linemen was done very wisely. The starting three linebackers are very good. Pay Tenuta whatever it takes.

Good tackling and good down and distance blitzing.

    2) Tech’s defense of terrible. They had limited pressure all day and the soft zone was shredded by Wilson and company.

    3) State’s kicking game will eventually cost them a game or two this year.

    4) The adjustment late in the 3rd quarter that brought in the 2nd team O line was a MISTAKE. State lost momentum after that punt and the change marked two Tech scores.

Least hostile fans you’ll ever meet win or lose. A few Miller Lites are now forever lodged in a down spout at the dorm behind the major block of State fans.

The defensive line and linebacker play was excellent today. I’m glad to see us play that well on D against a quality opponent. If the Texans get to 3-0 tomorrow I’ll be pretty tough to live with next week.

Disagree with the state of the Tech Fans. We were sitting in the Wolfpack section and of course, there’s some nearby Tech fans. We’re being loud and cheering for our team, nothing out of the ordinary and everything G-rated. On our final score, the guys sitting 5 or 6 down from me decided to leave and one of them pushed me in the back.

I caught myself and looked up and said “REALLY?” He turns around and drops the F bomb a few times and then spouts words that still make me laugh:

“Yeah because you’ve been a class act all day.”

Sure brother. We just beat that ass. Bye.

Most of the fans were great people, great to talk to.

But then we were leaving and walking through one of the tunnels downtown to our parking spot. There were about 50 pack fans in the tunnel yelling WOLF… PACK… WOLF… PACK…

And this girl turns around and screams at us “WE HAVE A BABY!” apparently because we were being too loud and hurting its ears

To which my wife, holding our 11-month old retorts: “SO DO WE!”

    She replies: “MINE’S AN INFANT”

ANd my lovely wife: “THEN DON’T TAKE HIM TO A FOOTBALL GAME!”

I don’t think that lady was expecting to turn around and shout at folks also with a baby. But oh well.
