Sunday morning

I thought it would come out later in the day, but ESPN’s website already has game time for next week’s college football action and it includes Virginia Tech’s visit to Carter-Finley set for 3:30pm on ABC. The entire day’s schedule has a lot of very interesting games. (Link to ESPN)

WOW! Three straight weeks of national TV. Who woulda thunk it!

I suppose, looking at the schedule, this is a regional broadcast. But with other games on ABC and ESPN at the same time, they usually switch to other regional games for updates. So we could still get some more national exposure.

^ ABC at 3:30 is regional. It is a national network that breaks up its broadcasts by region.

I would bet only a small area of the country gets our game on ABC, and most will be watching on GamePlan or ESPN3.com. Its a tough window competing with TX-OU.

Wow, I honestly thought Clemson vs. Miami would have had that spot for sure.

one00_proof: In terms of national spotlight, the Clemson/Miami slot is the bigger one, since it gets nationwide coverage on ESPN 2. Our slot, while good, is regional coverage only.

Still, I’ll take it! Afternoon games are better than noon games for tailgating and fan support.

For us out of area fans the 3:30 ABC regional is the worst slot. Oh well…if we win I won’t care.

This site (link below) is very good for the overall College FB TV schedule. This guy is accurate, almost always complete, and usually has the schedule updated within minutes of the announcements for the last minute scheduled games.

He also has explanations for how/when/why those games are chosen and which networks have first choice, including explanations of how each conference’s TV deals figure into it. Good site.

Go to the FAQ’s for even more info and to learn how the Big Ten’s reverse mirror agreement screws things up.

For those who want to see which states the various Saturday games will be broadcast into, DirecTV has a 700s tier of PPV channels, and usually by late Saturday morning a US map of where many games are available will appear on those channels. The white area of the map will show where the game is being televised, and the darkened area will be where the game isn’t being televised and thus is the “game available” (for pay-for-view) area.

Almost all of the ACC games have been limited to New England and the Mid-Atlantic areas plus SC, GA and FL for Raycom, and if they’re on ABC that area will be expanded to the entire Southeast. The Wisconsin game will probably be on ABC throughout the Midwest and perhaps West Virginia and Kentucky. The rest of the country’s ABC stations will probably show the Oklahoma-Texas game.

The Wisconsin and Oklahoma games will appeal to more viewers than our game with Tech, so those two games got the ESPN addition to markets outside their ABC regional telecasts. If we win Saturday, a hopeful benefit will be to avoid any more dreaded noon Raycom telecasts for awhile.

Another tv note is that with a simple UHF rooftop antenna, you can get free HD telecasts of the SEC Network (Channel 20.1 at noon Saturday). An antenna will also enable you to get Channel 2.1, another CBS affiliate that doesn’t have the annoying 5-second telecast delay like Channel 5 has. Today I was able to see, at the same time, the Colts on Channel 2 and the Bolts on Channel 5. Channels 2 and 20 from Greensboro are easily pulled in if you point your antenna toward northern Randolph County.

So we should hear today about the BC game unless it is 6 day optioned again.

Wow, Pack at home to VT and ECU going to the holes at the Hill. Get on the road early, traffic will be a nightmare.

Sooo…we might be 5-0 heading into the BC game and we get stuck with a Noon “ACC Network” game?

  12. Alpha Wolf 09/27/2010 at 12:13 PM #

^ Yup. Can’t avoid that. I was hoping for a night game because I have another commitment that afternoon.

I wish Raycom and the ACC would part ways for football.

  13. StateFans 09/27/2010 at 12:15 PM #

Unfortunately…the BC side of the equation doesn’t hold up that strongly to give us a case for a better situation/network.

  14. 61Packer 09/27/2010 at 1:05 PM #

Looks like ESPN expects us to lose Saturday and passed on our game with BC. The ACC needs to do more than just part ways with Raycom. They should look at the success of the Big Ten Network and figure out the obvious.

  15. baxter 09/27/2010 at 1:12 PM #

My understanding is that if we were to win this weekend, ABC/ESPN could pick the game up for BC, right?

  16. 61Packer 09/27/2010 at 2:05 PM #

According to the above article, ABC/ESPN already has the UNC-Clemson game for 3:30pm.

  17. GoldenChain 09/27/2010 at 3:00 PM #

I imagine that Raycom has some kind of pull to be sure they don’t end up with D games every week.

Look at it this way, just be glad you can watch it every week. Hasn’t been long at all since you only got to watch a game or two a season. Heck it wasn’t just a few years ago that State/unx wasn’t even televised.

  18. rtpack24 09/27/2010 at 3:16 PM #

Clemson-UNC regional on ABC-do not understand that. If EZU wins Sat heels only win will be against Rutgers. As long as we keep winning I do not care where they put us.

  19. bradleyb123 09/28/2010 at 9:57 AM #

Speaking of the Clemson-UNC game, should we do the unthinkable and pull for the Holes to beat Clemson? We need the Tigers to get some losses to help us win our division.

Nah, as long as we remain unbeaten, I won’t ever pull for the Holes over anyone, including teams in the Atlantic Division. We may not need Clemson to lose THAT particular game. 😉

Coverage maps for the ABC 3:30 PM games are out:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?page=coveragemaps2010

Looks like most of DC, MD, VA, NC, SC, GA, eastern TN and a part of north FL get NCSU/VT on ABC.
