Marvin Austin Suspended Indefinitely; UNC Spin Machine Continues

Hilarious. This is the first mention of “traffic” incidents from a UNC source. These incidents were first discovered on the message boards at Packpride. Not only did Marvin have multiple traffic violations to clear up, he was also past due on taxes for what appeared to be two separate vehicles.

It is mighty convenient that UNC sources are now publicizing the traffic/tax issues when Marvin Austin finally gets suspended by Butch Davis a mere three days before the LSU game. Marvin Austin’s involvement in the program should be very interesting to follow in the future. Based on the following tweet, then I would be surprised to see him in a UNC uniform again, however Marvin obviously loves to talk.

Source tells me suspension is partially related to facebook post, but Austin has also been skipping classes, dogging it in practice cont’d

Link.

The senior has been at the center of the NCAA’s investigation into possible improper benefits provided to players by sports agents, but Davis indicated on Wednesday afternoon that Austin’s suspension doesn’t pertain to the findings of that investigation.
“This decision is not a result of the ongoing NCAA review,” Davis said in a prepared press release. “Marvin has violated team rules and has neglected his responsibilities to the team.”

Austin will not play Saturday against LSU in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta.

The Washington, D.C. native is also facing seven traffic-related charges, including a misdemeanor noise ordinance violation, in Orange County district court. His court dates are scheduled for Sept. 15 and Oct. 6, according to court records.

I personally can’t wait for the tweets when MA gets the full boot. The guy has ZERO filter so you can imagine what he is going to say at that point. Whew!

Butch is essentially saying the same thing at the same time that the old ball sack in Columbia said about Saunders. They’ve both pissed their coaches off and were going to miss games anyway, courtesy of the NCAA, due to their own stupidity. Butch is fighting his own losing battle here, but he’s too late to save himself either.

Clarksa can you post the finer excerpts from that article?

I know it is obvious to most on this SFN, but I will go ahead and say it.

    NCMike,

It is not even close to being the same thing. The Old Ball Coach is pissed at Saunders, because he (Spurrier) is now linked to UNC/Butch/Blake. UNC is toxic and Saunders brought the #### storm toward SC.

So let me get this straight…

Contact with and (allegedly) receiving benefits from an agent…ok
    Connected to academic misconduct scandal…ok
    Traffic violation…suspended

If this has “nothing” to do with the investigations, then what they are saying is that all the other stuff is fine, but traffic violations are grounds for (multiple) game suspensions??

How long before Snitch Little gets the boot? Or has the NCAA mandated that they keep him around to dig up more information and rat out Black Santa?

Am I the only one who has the mental picture of old Baghdad Bob as these words are spoken?

I posited in another post on the forum that Marv’s facebook post was possibly not directed at media or NCAA, but possibly to the Carolina program. Could this be his way of showing it? If he really is pissed at them (possibly for encouraging his previous behavior, but now getting onto him about it), that’s not good for them I wouldn’t think.

So, is this bit with the traffic violations an effort to keep the announcers from talking about the ncaa investigations the whole time (if Marvin’s suspended b/c of the investigation, then that line will be repeated all throughout the broadcast; if it’s traffic violations, that’s not quite as interesting and that limits the damage to one individual, not the whole program)? Of course it will probably still come up, but they may have limited how much it comes up by doing this.
On another note, I wonder if these traffic violations would have ever come up without all of this.

    Stick – this is pathetic

NCAA wanted suspensions for the first two games for those that got 2 games, but Hyman was able to negotiate for the first game and another to be named by SC..most likely Troy. Obviously they don’t want them suspended for Georgia.

Not that it will matter anyway. Most teams suspend for the first few games regardless of the foe. Richt has always done that and as you know he has to do it often. SOS makes me laugh sometimes. 😉

If Marvin’s ONLY problem was traffic citations, tell me they wouldn’t find a way to keep his a$$ on the team!!!

They knew he would be suspended ANYWAY, and just found OTHER reasons to suspend him in such a way that it would be less of a black eye for the university. It makes Carolina look just a LITTLE better if he is suspended due to “violation of team rules” than to be suspended for cheating and/or illegal contact with agents.

So far, UNX has not suspended ANYONE for cheating or agent dealings. It wouldn’t surprise me if they found a way to suspend 16 players for their own violations of team rules, in order to improve their image with the general public.
