GT Game / Potential Semi-Live Blog

We have company this morning, so I don’t know when I will post updates, or how often. Clearly, this is the biggest game of Tom O’Brien’s tenure. A win here could catapault NC State into legitimate contention for the Atlantic Division crown, along with Top 25 honors. A loss, and it’s TOB’s fourth consecutive 0-1 ACC start – and the wheels could come off quickly.

You want analysis? Our own Alpha Wolf has you covered with far better analysis than you will find anywhere in the paid media; GAWolf has set you up with a little NC State-talk in this entry; and our message boards have at least a dozen threads from this week discussing different aspects of today’s game.

You want the opinions of a simpleton like me? I’ve seen Georgia Tech play twice, and NC State play three times. NC State looked like a good football team (not great, but good). Georgia Tech looked like hot garbage smells. If we play our game, I fully expect a win today.

Because despite that we had a 17 point lead and possession. And we intentionally did NOTHING with that possession. 3 and out. And that changed the whole face of this game in about five minutes.

at this point I am still impressed with our playing, win or not. We are a pretty good team . 7-5 or better.

This team can’t close out games.

  4. MrPlywood 09/25/2010 at 2:26 PM #

If the team gives up as quick as you guys they will lose for sure. Might as well get on the bus now.

Missed field goals are now huge. I sure hope we do not need a field goal at the end of the game to win this sucker, because anything outside of extrapoint range is less than a coin flip in probability.
    Go Pack!

I usually think RW is overly cautious on throwing it away (Grise alluding to it also), but that throw…wow, aweful decision. Said it at the half, offense would need to win second half to win.

I know we are trying to run some clock but the NO huddle has dominated all game. Why change now?

  8. packbackr04 09/25/2010 at 2:27 PM #

and if we hadnt missed the 2 field goals we would have been up 23 pts…. GT might have given up by now…. and even if the game played out the way it has, we would still be up 9 pts (2 scores). if we lose, the kicking game will be a huge part of it.

I’m not giving up. I just want them to fight and win. I want them to squash the opponent when they’re down…not start trying to kill the clock with 14 minutes left.

Agree with MrPlywood. Disappointing turn of events but lets stick with it. This team can win!

    Nice start Haynes.

Didn’t say it wouldn’t be a huge part of it. Of course it will be. So will every other mistake that was made during the game. But none of that changed the momentum of the game the way going conservative did.

    letts go pack

  14. Sweet jumper 09/25/2010 at 2:29 PM #

Like the back-to-back 7 yards on first downs.

im with you wufpacker. i just hate having a crappy kicking game.

Wilson on the read. Haven’t seen that one in a while.

    Keeping fingers crossed…

  19. Wufpacker 09/25/2010 at 2:31 PM #

    Nice. Now we’re talking.

  20. Sweet jumper 09/25/2010 at 2:31 PM #

Green is going to be a star.

  21. Whiteshoes67 09/25/2010 at 2:31 PM #

There’s no way i’m even considering a field goal here. 4 down territory, 2.5 yards a play. Run it or keep it in RW’s hands

  22. Wufpacker 09/25/2010 at 2:32 PM #

At least GT scored quickly. I know that sounds silly but the D should still be pretty fresh.

  23. Sweet jumper 09/25/2010 at 2:32 PM #

    Need 7 here.

  24. Whiteshoes67 09/25/2010 at 2:32 PM #

2nd down call was terrible…run the stinking football.

Bad time for illegal procedure–in the red zone.
