GT Game / Potential Semi-Live Blog

We have company this morning, so I don’t know when I will post updates, or how often. Clearly, this is the biggest game of Tom O’Brien’s tenure. A win here could catapault NC State into legitimate contention for the Atlantic Division crown, along with Top 25 honors. A loss, and it’s TOB’s fourth consecutive 0-1 ACC start – and the wheels could come off quickly.

You want analysis? Our own Alpha Wolf has you covered with far better analysis than you will find anywhere in the paid media; GAWolf has set you up with a little NC State-talk in this entry; and our message boards have at least a dozen threads from this week discussing different aspects of today’s game.

You want the opinions of a simpleton like me? I’ve seen Georgia Tech play twice, and NC State play three times. NC State looked like a good football team (not great, but good). Georgia Tech looked like hot garbage smells. If we play our game, I fully expect a win today.

Good to grab the momentum back. We should be killing them.

  2. packbackr04 09/25/2010 at 1:08 PM #

we’ll miss the extra point … dont worry

Nice 1st half WolfPack! Let’s complete some of these drives and we’ll be in good shape!!

This is too stressful. Am I the only one sitting at home watching and actually feel nervous? I want this bad for those guys.

this game should be out of hand in our favor by now the play calling has bothered me I just hope the D gets some rest and can hold strong in the 2nd half

  6. Wufpacker 09/25/2010 at 1:09 PM #

If they called Mattes for holding before they should be whistling GT for assault on just about every play. It’s obvious who’s getting the short end of the officiating stick here today. But our own mistakes are killing us worse than anything the zebras are doing.

  7. coach13 09/25/2010 at 1:10 PM #

I thought that holding call was very suspect.

  8. Wufpacker 09/25/2010 at 1:11 PM #

coach13, you are not the only one who’s feeling nervous. I haven’t been this emotionally invested in a game in several years. And I didn’t even realize it until you just said that, LOL.

    17-7 at halftime…. great!
hope they keep it up in the 2nd half!

  10. Wufpacker 09/25/2010 at 1:12 PM #

Yeah, I’d say it was suspect since after his initial contact with the guy, a very square face to face block, he didn’t even touch him again after that.

He tried. He reached for him. But he didn’t touch him.

  11. coach13 09/25/2010 at 1:13 PM #

LOL. Yep. I need to calm down. But this is what we all wanted. To think we could win any game…to start getting some attention. To expect great things. I love it.

Key in second half is not to let foot off pedal. Defensive line played better in first half than expected; special teams a wash (missed 2 field goals but got 6 on blocked punt); and offense moved ball. Don’t let Tech score on opening drive, put up 17-21 in second half and we win for sure.

Thank God for replay. In the old days that would have been ruled incomplete and then we would be shown umpteen replays that showed it was a bad call but we would have no points to show for it. Keep up the good work D. Go Pack!!

Why do I feel at the end of the first half for the last 3 games that we keep leaving around 10 pts off the board that should be there?
We have a dynamite offense but we still have not pulled everything together yet as a team.

Right now we have to give big props to the D. Excellent first half.

  15. WolfManJack 09/25/2010 at 1:24 PM #

D did have a good first half and it is good to see Nate getting more and more involved! he had some great hits in the first half. Is it me or does TJ look a step slower then he used too on returns?

  16. doomsday2008 09/25/2010 at 1:24 PM #

Because of the kicking game. The length of punts allow the other teams good field position and when we can’t score a TD we miss putting points on the board. But when that comes together we will be a complete team. That is why nav…

Whats all this Michigan crap right as soon as we go to half they just half to talk about them. That’s ok they are going to have to notice sooner or later.

I think from a time control stand point Wilson needs to (if he gets back to line of scrimmage) slide vs throwing away. This keeps the clock rolling. A few times he has rolled out, run parallel to line of scrimmage and thrown it away, where he could have slid for a yard or two. We need to keep the clock rolling with the lead if we have it. Stay aggressive. We need at least 3 more TD’s.

    GT gets ball 1st.

  18. hoop 09/25/2010 at 1:25 PM #

Damn impressive half of football by NC State. Ahem, except for the field goal kicking. But anyway did I read somewhere that Ga Tech is favored by 9 points? I think we must have been favored, right? After all, we’re up 10 points!!!

  19. doomsday2008 09/25/2010 at 1:26 PM #

TJ needs to run up the middle and catch a hole to break one.

  20. coach13 09/25/2010 at 1:28 PM #

Agree doomsday. Our backs and return guys do alot of east west looking for seams. Gotta go more north south wide open and hope a hole pops open.

  21. packbackr04 09/25/2010 at 1:28 PM #

it is impossible to be a good team with no kicking game.

  22. coach13 09/25/2010 at 1:29 PM #

How surprised would everyone be if TOB kicked an on side right now? No one is thinking that right now. perfect timing…wait nevermind. We need a talented kicker for that.

  23. beeeejay 09/25/2010 at 1:31 PM #

well good start to the half

  24. flanders 09/25/2010 at 1:33 PM #

    that was quick.

  25. Whiteshoes67 09/25/2010 at 1:34 PM #

Just told my dad, an ole’ Wolfpack lineman, Tech would test them on the outside where they’d had success and we have young d-backs. Sure enough…
