    Pack78, how about this one?

    Dick Baddour said something about no other players being suspended. That’s saying a lot, considering how tight-lipped they’ve been through all this. Not sure what to think about that. But this thing seems to change daily, so anything can happen.

    Update: I watched ABC local news, and Shae Crisson clarified DB’s comments, saying the university won’t need to kick anyone off the team.

    That doesn’t mean the NCAA won’t be doing it.

    ^^Matt-I like that one, too!

    Asked directly if Blake had received money from agents while he was coaching, Smith responded: “That’s a complicated question. I should not deal with that, with answering that, while the investigations are ongoing.”

    Smith said Blake felt that his presence on the team had become a distraction, and he has decided it would be better to make this decision now and move on.

    “I’m sorry he’s had to do it,” Smith said. “He’s a terrific coach, and he has a future in coaching.”

    I did NOT get to watch the EyeWitness 11 news….but the IS board is now saying that DB will open up to females….

    Anyway, if you go back and read the article on Eyewitness 11, DB says that NO MORE, with emphasis on the MORE players will be suspended. He then later says that he hope on a case by case basis to resolve each one in an expeditious manner.

    I read this out loud to my wife and she was of the same opinion…..they have identified the 13 “tainted” ones. It will now be up the university to determine IF they can be re-instated.

    Bob Lee still predicts that ugliness will abound this week. There is also the prevailing rumor from the NOW NON-ADDICTED Blue Kool Aid fans (these are the ones that completed my 12 step program; 1-800-N-DENIAL) that Blake’s firing will let the genie out of the bottle….and it may NOT be pretty. Of course, some of them are trying to figure out WHOM BD needs to hire now to run the defense and also start recruiting.

    The lads and lasses also did a rundown on WHO recruited the dirty dozen. Blake was responsible for the majority. He recruited them mostly with Thigpen. Thigpen got credit for the rest, save one.

    The UNC Faculty are apparently really MIFFED (St. Monteith Syndrome) at BD and are calling for a re-creation of the John-the-Baptist gig that Salome or whatever the exotic dancer called herself several years ago.

    I don’t know how many of you attend or have attended Ira David Wood’s Christmas Carol. It is humor of the first order….especially the last night when the cast lets out all the ad libs that they have been saving, trying to crack up the other cast members.

    Wood will probably have more than a few “Black Santa” barbs….he has a guy with a great deep baritone/bass voice that looks bigger than most Pro tackles. I can just see this guy in a Black Velvet (they do a LOT of Elvis humor also) Santa suit, trimmed in light blue fur. Don’t need the logo and that will avoid the logo copyright issues.

    I am going to get front row seats….the guy does not pull any punches….he is like a late night comedian….all are fair game. Roasts our politico’s….

    If you re-read the Ch 11 article and get a DIFFERENT meaning, then please post your interpretation…

    DB is simply reading the script he’s handed. He’s a dead man walking too, but he probably won’t get the boot until after the season.

    The Battle of Morannon is happening between Sauron’s forces in the Board of Trustees, and the King of Gondor on the Board of Governors. Turns out several ringwraiths have made it onto the BOT, and the titanic struggle between evil and good is what brought BD to unc.

    For a while, the trolls and orcs had the upper hand, but with the recent scandals, some are expecting the eagles to save the day. But, until the ring is thrown into Mt. Doom, the outcome is uncertain.

    There are forces at play here that harken to the Eldar and the days of Númenor. The Third Age is over. unc can no longer claim ownership of the ring of invisibility and power.

    To quote JRRT: “If it is destroyed, then he will fall, and his fall will be so low that none can foresee his arising ever again. For he will lose the best part of the strength that was native to him in his beginning, and all that was made or begun with that power will crumble, and he will be maimed for ever, becoming a mere spirit of malice that gnaws itself in the shadows, but cannot again grow or take shape. And so a great evil of this world will be removed.”

    On the topic of who paid for Marvin et al to travel to Atlanta, the following quote from their team spokesman simply floored me…

    “Asked, in the light of the ongoing investigations, whether those players would be asked to provide receipts, or proof of who paid for their trips, Best said he did not know.”

    Read more: http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/09/06/667091/unc-says-austin-wont-practice.html#ixzz0ynuQACEg

    How…. in God’s name… can they not be following every single penny spent by players on trips, documenting where every one of those pennies came from? I mean, REALLY??? Even NOW, they’re gonna just let the boys be boys?

    Wow.

    Can’t believe this hasn’t been mentioned on the ESPN VT-BSU half time show. Lou, you let me down. Only passing remark on the NCAA investigation during the pregame on which coach has more problems BD or Miles. NCAA investigation trump crappy defense.

    ^^wolfonthehill-I took that comment to fall under the heading of ‘dummy up and don’t anybody say word one pertaining to this investigation…’

    Phang,

    Excellent post….assuming that I fully “got it”. You ought to sign up on the InsideCarolina.com board and post that. It would drive the sheep over there CRAZY. Such phraseology and literary references would baffle them for days…..until a wise tutor enlightened them….it would be CLASSIC.

    If you had posted that this afternoon before the food fight broke out on the WRAL site, perhaps servers would not have crashed…..there were over 330 posts there before order was restored.

    What I must, to be objective, report is that some of the more intellectually challenged segments of the Lobo Luniacy Fringe were left un-supervised…

    It got down and dirty….

    The classis was (paraphrasing) a comback when each side was yelling busted….one lass (I hope) quipped back….I WANT to get BUSTED….I ain’t got enough now and I can use all the help I can get.

    SO….the beat doth continue to oscillate in a sinusoidal pattern…..

    Meanwhile, female garmets covering their torso are becoming increasingly smaller in length (while the torsos are probably becoming increasingly broader in width).

    I thought this fit, with BMFD trying to build his program and all…..

    I lost Phang somewhere between the Never Ending Story and Dungeons and Dragons.

  13. wufpup76 09/06/2010 at 10:53 PM #

    ^I liked the Never Ending Story (and LOTR for that matter) …

    Ok, back on topic – go to hell carolina!

    “I lost Phang somewhere between the Never Ending Story and Dungeons and Dragons.”

    Sorry, I got off track. I forgot this was a sports board. 🙂

  15. Phang 09/07/2010 at 6:05 AM #

    Shouldn’t have gone literary on you. Let me try again:

    The Board of Trustees (BOT) really really want to win a national championship in football. The BOT are the bosses of Thorpe and Baddour, etc, etc. The BOT is why BMFD is over at unc in the first place. So when DB says “we are not going to kick anybody off the team”, he’s telling you exactly what the BOT have told him to say. If they told him to say “I”m a flying purple elephant” he would.

    The UNC Board of Governors actually like the idea of academic integrity. But there are politically powerful people on both the BOT and the BOG. So the battle is between some of the BOT members, who still have not recognized that, not only have the wheels come off the bus, but that the bus has flown off the cliff and is moments from impact. Like the man who fell off the ten story building, people at each floor report hearing them saying “so far so good”.

    So, even though the BOT still holds a lot of influence, that will soon come to an end when the subpoenas and indictments start flowing. I suspect multiple resignations from the BOT, plus all the other things i’ve predicted because I’m clairvoyant, you know.

    Someone pointed out that even the revised version might be over the head of some of the readers here, so for the unc fans who visit our forum:

    BOT BAD! BOG NOT AS BAD! BMFD and lots of others DMW!

  17. NCStatePride 09/07/2010 at 8:37 AM #

    Definitely want to throw this in the face of everyone saying “nothing will come of this”. Good news!

    OK….SOME of the brethern on the InsideCarolina site are a “little” concerned. This was posted around 1:00 this morning. I guess the poster was still celebrating the Boise win over VT, SINCE, the RUMOR on the IC board is that VT was the school that “ratted” on UNX. Since it was posted VERY early, some will have to read it and have their legal tutors explain Roman Numeral numbering to them. As I read it, I noticed that the agreement actually has a Jimmy V tone about it. In both SS “b” and “c”, the sole discretion could be defined as “spirit of the law”. VELLY interesting…..

    Here is the actual language from Section IX of Coach Paul H. Davis, Jr.’s January 9, 2008 employment agreement with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill if anyone is interested:

    IX. TERMINATION BY UNIVERSITY FOR CAUSE

    This Agreement may be terminated by UNIVERSITY for Cause at any time upon written notice to COACH. For purposes hereof, “Cause” shall mean the following:

    (a) material failure to perform any of the duties specified in Section II (Duties);

    (b) a violation by COACH, or knowing participation by COACH in a violation, or a violation by the assistant coaches under COACH’s supervision of which COACH had reason to know, should have known through the exercise of reasonable diligence in the exercise of his duties under this Agreement, or which COACH condoned, of a major NCAA regulation or bylaw, or of a major ACC regulation or bylaw, or of a policy of or applicable to UNIVERSITY. For purposes of this
    Section IX(b), whether or not a violation has occurred shall be reasonably determined in the sole discretion of UNIVERSITY after its review of the relevant facts and circumstances;

    (c) a violation by Football Program staff members (other than assistant coaches) or by student-athletes under COACH’s supervision, of which COACH had reason to know or which COACH condoned, of a major NCAA regulation or bylaw, or of a major ACC regulation or bylaw, or of a policy of or applicable to UNIVERSITY. For purposes of this Section IX(c), whether or not a violation has occurred shall be reasonably determined in the sole discretion of UNIVERSITY after its review of the relevant facts and circumstances;

    (d) conviction by COACH of any felony or any crime that involves dishonesty, or behavior by COACH that displays a continual or serious disrespect for the integrity and ethics of the UNIVERSITY;

    (e) any other material breach by COACH of the terms of this Agreement; or

    (f) any of those causes specified in Section III.B.4. of the UNIVERSITY’s Employment Policies for EPA Non-Faculty Employees, attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, as such Employment Policies may be amended from time to time.

    In the event of a termination under this Section IX for “Cause ,” UNIVERSITY’s sole obligation to COACH shall be payment of his compensation as set forth in Section III of this Agreement earned through the date of such termination. The UNIVERSITY shall not be liable to COACH for any collateral business opportunities , outside activities, or other non-UNIVERSITY matters that may be related to or associated with COACH’ s position as Head Football Coach. Any process to terminate COACH for Cause shall be conducted in compliance with all relevant UNIVERSITY policies.
