Bill Leslie Responds To SFN Criticism

First, I grew up as a huge NCSU fan and I still pull for the Pack. Yes, I am a UNC grad and I do believe Gregg Doyle’s article was reckless. I would say the same thing if State were in this situation. We are thoroughly covering this story but I think a few more facts need to come out before you can say the kind of things that Gregg Doyle is saying. By “cutting some slack” I was referring to his “turd floating in the water comment.” I think that statement was unnecessary and overboard. I promise you I will not hold back in reporting the truth on this investigation no matter what the outcome. And yes, I will be pulling for State to win tonight against Cincinnati. I work hard to be fair. Just ask my State friends here at WRAL. Sometimes I make mistakes. I apologize if I have offended any of you.

Sincerely,

Bill Leslie

I’m sorry that UNC’ers got upset with the ‘turd in the punchbowl’ reference, but until they admit their culpability, punish ALL involved, and come ‘clean’ in the media, they ARE the ‘turd in the punchbowl’.

So much for the promised transparency from Baddour and Co. They have hidden and clammed up all the way, hoping that everyone will get tired of asking and go away.

Hope the whole Athletic Dept gets nuked…Freakin’ hypocrits !

…..unx responded to the alligations with a press conference. I guess that means they’re stand-up people too.
I have a hard time understanding you guys. A man responds to an email and all of a sudden it doesn’t matter how much BS he’s spewing. Doesn’t mean he’s a bad person, just that he totes the ‘party line’.

    Bill Leslie:

Talk is cheap. When we see you, WRAL, the N&O, etc., doing the kind of hard-hitting investigation and reporting that we see from other media outlets (even NATIONAL media outlets), then we’ll probably be more inclined to believe you when you say what you said.

Having said that, I believe you’re a stand-up guy for responding. And maybe YOU (one individual) are not the problem. The problem is what we perceive as an INSTITUTIONAL problem. The local media as a whole are the problem. They are the ones that are handling THIS investigation so differently than the way they handled NC State’s investigation back in the late 80’s. With so many UNC journalism grads working “in these here parts”, it’s hard to not draw a correlation between the two.

Good points Wufpacker. Wish I had thought to ask those same questions.
