Bearcats in the sights… and TOB isn’t too happy!

WRAL posted this story this morning about TOB’s concern regarding the scheduling of the game Thursday night.

That’s when he sounded a little ticked off about the timing of the game.

“This is close to impossible. For what we had to do to leave tonight. You know the ACC, I don’t know why they did it to us but it’s a terrible, terrible thing,” O’Brien said on the Wolfpack Sports Network.

Haynes reminded O’Brien that State “kind of saved the ACC” on Saturday.

“Yeah well they offered us up as a sacrificial lamb on Thursday too,” O’Brien replied.

The ACC will be involved in four Thursday night ESPN games this season. N.C. State’s Sept. 16 game against the Bearcats is the only one that doesn’t have an open date preceding it.

Not only do we not have an open week prior to our Thursday night game, we had an AWAY game in Orlando, Florida. Such things are quite curious, and it makes me wonder why there’s so much debate over Wolfpack fans’ perpetual claim that there is no equal protection under ACC “law” with a Tar Heel (Swofford) sitting atop the proverbial conference court.

One might ask: What on earth was Lee Fowler doing when the schedules were being determined? If there was an abnormal scheduling glitch, as in we were dropped unexpectedly from another OOC team’s schedule and had to hastily find another opponent, please share it with us.

Otherwise, I see no reason to not continue looking for black helicopters and checking lampshades in the Murphy Center for bugs.

SFN Postscript: We’ve got a few conversations about both UCF and Cincy taking place in our message forums accessible by clicking here. The forums set records last week, and we’d like to keep riding and growing that kind of activity. Thanks

If anybody is tired, it is the defense. The offense took the second half off in the UCF game, so fatigue should not be a factor for them, and if they spend more time on the field, than the sidelines, the defense won’t be drained. We can win another game, with national exposure. Go Pack!

Silver lining guy here, at least this nets us a tidy 9 day rest and gameplan for GT.

The brightside guys, always the brightside.

This is a perfect example of how TV and love for the almighty dollar controls college sports. This game should be played on Saturday afternoon, but the conference has prostituted itself to ESPN and whoever else to televise certain games on Thursday night. I’m not familiar with the overall contract, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Thursday games are more for the networks to fill schedule slots than the schools. In turn, the networks promise the conferences prime-time slots on the week-end.

A Thursday night game is certainly not being done for the fans who buy tickets. Heaven forbid that anything actually be done for the true fans who show up. They would prefer Saturday afternoon.

Regarding Last Saturday’s game in Orlando –> The victory was great! UCF has a nice stadium and great atmosphere. The Pack’s complete play early in the game kept their crowd out of it until the kick return. Big hits by both squads. But it was great that the Pack “D” come through in the end to win the game.

    Keep it going!

I’ll state it again. My only qualm with these public statements are that if Tom O’Brien complains about the Thursday game, it seems like an entrenched coach with a history of 3 “losing” seasons complaining about having a schedule that’s too hard. However, what he is saying is true and needs to be stated, and that’s why I’m wondering what Debbie Yow is thinking, if she agrees with Tom, or if she plans on publicly (or privately to the correct officials) backing up Tom’s concerns and doing what Fowler never could: backing up NC State.

Didn’t VaTech just play JMU 5 days after playing Boise State? Not sure who scheduled what with that…just saying.

packgrad2000, the timeframe is the same. But do you not see the difference between playing at UCF, and then returning home to play Cincy, verses returning home to play a Division II team?

I am still trying to find in the NCAA rules book the 15 yard penalty Ron Cherry called on Vermiglio (i think it was) for “giving him the business”
