Tank Tyler Fits into Panthers Defense

NC State fans have (rightfully) complained for years that we haven’t had the pleasure of having enough Wolfpack influence in and around the NFL ‘hometeam’ Carolina Panthers.

Hopefully this feeling changes some this season as Fayetteville native and NC State alum Tank Tyler was traded to Panthers from Kansas City midway through last season. The defensive tackle, who has racked up 64 tackles since his rookie year in ’07, is still in the process of getting reacquainted with the Carolina setting.

Tyler played six games with the Panthers last year, but his role and effectiveness have yet to be fully determined. He is recovering from a knee injury, but he says that he feels it is already back to 100%. Tyler, who is 14th in the league in tackles at his position, looks to be a great fit for the Carolina defense.

I was really hoping the Panthers were going to sign Torry Holt in the off-season to bolster their weak and inexperienced wide receiving corp. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and Holt will be playing in New England this year. But, at least we’ve got Tank to help ‘Wolfpackize’ the Panthers and those awful colors.

I think the reason they didn’t sign Holt is because they are pretty much in a spending freeze over there. Talk about one of the most boring teams as far as free agency this off season. I’m hoping Tank can really assert himself this season and hold a spot on the roster well.

Marcus Hudson was also picked up this offseason…so there are currently two Wolfpack alum on the Panthers’ roster

Sadly he got cut because they had to sign another running back because of that lack of depth at that position. stewart and both back ups were hurt

according to what I’ve read, they released injurec cornerback Marcus Walker, not Marcus Hudson
